New innovations is always welcomed, and maybe some NBD will show up in the higher rankings? I have not researched that deck much, but it looks like a fun deck, more so than, say, Merfolk.
I don't think that it will. It hasn't been doing much on MTGO and I believe that it was overhyped. It is a good deck, but it isn't going to (like some people were prediciting) make Top 8.
If I would put a bet on last standing deck, it'd probably be Pod or Twin, they seem to be solid choices right now.
Why Pod? Melira Pod is on the decline right now and Kiki Pod hasn't become Tier 1 yet.

Sunday I will either be in that thread saying I told you so or I was wrong. But I am still betting on the former.

makes me sad. i deconstructed UWR because it was no fun to play and built kiki-pod. i have a lot more fun but win a lot less. i don't know what we need to make it better. probably a ridiculous 2/3-drop threat.
Tron would have been very close to, if not, winning the last GP if it wasn't for punting.
I take it back then I guess. I didn't watch the last one but I remember all of the ones before that people predicted Tron to make a splash and it never happens.

What does "punting" mean? Also, Pod will more than likely place in the top 8/16 somewhere. Cueno said he's expecting a pod ban, so that may have turned some people off of playing the deck. However, it was still incredibly good in the current Modern meta unless there is a change I am not aware of.
To be honest, that statement is sort of grasped out of thin air. I guess I always believed Pod to be a solid deck in modern.
On another note, I can't recall Jund/BGx doing anything spectacular in a while except for putting up a decent number in the top 16. Maybe a BGx deck could take it home over Pod?, if, as you say, Pod is on the decline.
I'm just going by the MTGO Meta. BGx, Splinter Twin, Affinity, WUR Control, RG Tron, Scapeshift, Merfolk, and even Burn/RDW are doing better on MTGO than Melira Pod is right now. BGx however, is still around 15%.
Punting, as I percieve it is either making a misplay or taking an unecceasry risk while playing in a position where the right play could lead to maybe winning or regaining control of the game. Correct me if I'm wrong about this.
I don't usually refer to punting as misreading the probabilities (and taking an unnecessary risk or whatever else that leads to), but misplaying around known information, turning a win or very probable win into a loss. You're right though, it's used both ways.
Once again, the stream crashes. Glad to see Wizards giving everyone that fine GP Brisbane viewing experience...
The Pod vs Junk match was so-so, although I do want to see the Griselbrand/Emrakul deck they were talking about be played in the next few hours, so I can go to sleep.

Eternal Masters 2015 Legacy Champion. Has an unnatural love towards perfectly reasonable respect for Lightning Bolt.
NBD seems more like a good reason to jack up the price of disrupting shoal than a real deck, delver doesn't have the support in modern it needs to be the 5 turn combo deck it is in legacy. not to dismiss it completely, its just still not there yet in terms of the cardpool.
If Twin swing a 2/1 into your Linvala and has 2 or more cards in hand, NEVER BLOCK unless that will kill you. I mean, Linvala just turns off the infinite win and holds the line well.
At least then he got the Pontiff to wipe the board.
Interesting to see where this game goes.

The Modern Perspective - an article series all about Modern brought to you by PureMTGO.com
LET THE FIST OF SUNS PRICE SPIKE BEGIN!!!
(And let the Griselbrand/Goryo's/Emrakul/Breach ban talk begin...)
It's funny because this was a card I speculated on about 2 years ago, looking for other ways to do broken things with Emrakul, so I have about 16 in my binder (which I feel badly about because I'm not a big fan of speculation). I couldn't get it to work with my playtest group at the time, which is probably because we didn't yet have access to the almighty Griselbrand. I'm happy to see this deck doing well, even if it will lead to annoying ban talk and price gouging. My guess is that this deck does well today and then fails to make T16 tomorrow.
I'm also seeing some Ad Nauseam at the higher tables (this feature match rocks), which is good evidence as to the so-called diversity of the format. Merfolk is making a stronger showing this time around than at Antwerp, and BGx doesn't seem too out of control. Also some rumors about Nykthos Green making some noise.
Lots of combo decks running around. Probably has something to do with the lack of real control options in this format. Also, a deck like Tin Fists really demonstrates why Modern needs better nonbasic land hatred. There's just nothing in the format that can punish such a greedy manabase until the deck has already won. That's the kind of natural deck vulnerability that other decks should be able to exploit, but for lack of decent hate cards these decks continue to succeed (we don't have our own Wasteland equivalent, or anything even close).
Also, Dickmann's Tempo Twin list looks very strong. He's heavily into burn, with 4 Bolt, 3 Izzet Charm, and 2 Electrolyze. Add that on top of the 4 Snappy's, 4 Mites, and only 4 combo pieces (3 Twin/1 Kiki), and this list looks very well suited for handling the BGx Shell.

Ghost quarter is often stripmine against that deck. One island. Spreading seas. Blood moon. We have options. Maindeck spreading seas isn't so crazy.

Definitely, which is one reason I really like Merfolk in this tournament. Its one of the few decks that can effectively maindeck the Ghost Quarters to improve matchups were it otherwise can't interact, namely RG Tron and these greedy combo decks. GW Hatebears is packing it too which, incidentally, I also think is a very strong choice in this tournament. And of course there's RG Tron which is using it both defensively and offensively.
That said, even though it's in three semi-major decks, it's not really a Modern staple. As a result, greedy manabases can bet on avoiding it. I'm unconvinced that it's necessarily a good thing for Modern to have a widely played nonbasic land hate, but the Wasteland effect in Legacy has been very positive. As Modern continues to grow and continues to require more checks to goodstuff and greedy combo manabases, such a hate card might be badly needed.

UWR control is so dead is the real issue. Is nobody playing that at this tournament?
Also decks that focus on land destruction could be pretty sweet right now. Death Cloud is popping up online, and with 4 MD abrupt decay, 8+ discard spells fulminator mage and death cloud ending the game pretty fast seems like a pretty sweet choice. It has an amazing twin and tron matchup.
Annoying ban talk? It's a legitimate point when a deck can kill t2 and t3 with some consistency. The deck is a top 8 or two away from getting something banned.
No Living End on camera yet which kind of surprises me. Did its number drop or are they just not putting it on camera?

The deck waxes and wanes. It will always be around and playable, just not picked up by the 50 top players in the feature match area. It will have some day 2's I'm sure.
Fist of suns should see a huge spike in price tomorrow. We will see if it can top 8 and get something banned(goryo my guess)

Goryo's Vengeance isn't that consistent of a turn 2 or 3 kill. Regardless, wouldn't goryo's get banned over Griselbrand? It enables the combo.
We've seen griselbrand do really gross things in different environments - but I still don't think it warrants a ban. I don't think Emrakul deserves a ban either. The decks that put them into play can be interacted with most of the time.

There are 3 or less unique cards from Theros in the top 16.
