i doubt there'll be playsets of anything either. a pod list actually makes the most sense. the real question is mythics or no mythics. pod can get away without mythics and is comprised of mostly rares, uncommons, and commons. include a fetch or two and you're set. also, chord of calling needs a reprint badly.
I think a "pod" list is definitely possible, just not in the way people are thinking.
Imagine a gruul midrange aggro deck... a little ramp, some big flashy $2 creatures like vorapede. Throw in 1x domri rade, 1x chord of calling, 2x birthing pod. A couple playable duals (1 stomping grounds, 2 rootbound crag, maybe a man-land and a kessig wolf run, and some budget choices). It wouldn't be a terrible deck, but it would lose badly at a tourney. It'd be easyish to pilot, solid at the kitchen table, and have enough staples that people want to buy it for them alone.
if it included 2 chords, it would fly off the shelves. literally everything else in the deck would be extra. (once again, i doubt they'll include a planeswalker.)

I speak in sarcasm because calling people ******* ******** is not allowed.
I doubt there are going to be mythics, or that this is going to be a watered down netdeck. An assortment of 10 modern rares + swag I could see WotC pricing at 75 dollars MSRP
My personal hope? Naya Zoo, with Wild Nacatl coming off the ban list at the end of the month. Hey, a guy can dream right?
It even makes a little sense. You've got lots of good rares to reprint, many of which didn't make it into MM. Gaddock Teeg, Aven Mindcensor, Horizon Canopy, Noble Hierarch... Maybe even Lotus Cobra or another printing of Knight of the Reliquary. You wouldn't have to touch Goyf since he's apparently sacrosanct, and could still make a solid, fair Modern deck with some popular staples that doesn't rely on a turn 4 combo.
Am I the only one thinking it'll be BW Tokens? Take out some expensive lands and Thoughtseize. 5 double sided tokens for the 3 Spirits off of Spectral Procession, 2 Soldiers off of Hero of Bladehold/Raise the Alarm. Makes the most sense to me. It's good but not OP and not terribly expensive.
Wouldn't it make the most sense if it was a BW tokens deck?
There are 5 double faced tokens - this doesn't make sense with Tron, because of the nature of the wurm tokens. They come out two at a time; there's no point in them being double faced and 5 is such an odd number.
BW tokens on the other hand, has 2 types of tokens, soldier and spirit, and it's not uncommon to see a mix of them, and in numbers of at least 5, on the field at any given time.
If you guys want to go off on the tokens thing, they can make Pestermite and Exarch tokens, which would be double-sided, one side for either card. It could also be Pod with Voice Elemental on one side, Spirit on the other side.
BW Tokens, Pod, Splinter twin all seem reasonable choices based on the double sided tokens (more so than Tron to me at least). Pods tokens including Voice of Resurgence makes it seem less likely to me though since Voice is still in standard. BW tokens really does look like the best option. It's cheap enough to build a viable FNM deck with a $75 price tag and it can have several money cards usable for spreading out to other archetypes from there. Thoughtseize, Inquisition, Marsh Flats, and other assorted goodies.

Actually, I retract my earlier statement about Boros.
It'll be Bogles.
... or something like that. I'm probably wrong - just talking out loud here - but I think BW tokens
1) makes the most use of DFC tokens
2) Can be built into an event deck the easiest WITHOUT mythics (the only mythics being Hero of Bladehold and Elspeth), which follows tradition
3) Can include 10 rares that doesn't completely bust the 75 dollar MSRP
4) is an established competitive deck that can be improved on with more copies of the rares, mythic inclusions, and fetchlands (which I am expecting will come out in the next set)
I like it that they're supporting the format, but the MSRP really means nothing for a product like this
Well, in a way it implies that the contents will be no laughing matter.
But that'll just manifest in a shelf price significantly higher than MSRP due to the price ultimately being impacted by market value of the most valuable cards within.
Though, if it's vomited out in large enough numbers... I mean, right now I've got FTV Jace on the mind as gross offender of "hey guys look at this ancillary product it has a high demand card in it watch as the MSRP means diddly!" but FTV is a low-supply product line (and FTV20 had Jace, perfect storm of low S high D right there)...
But yeah, it's kinda a joke slapping an MSRP on something that's being moved by game stores...
Firstly, I doubt it'd be a combo deck because those aren't the kinds that you can just take into a tournament without knowing how the combo works. Imagine it was Living End. A new player (like, one that has absolutely zero knowledge of Modern) buys the deck and takes it into a tournament right away. He draws his starting hand and sees 4 4+CMC cyclers and 3 lands. "This has got to be a joke, right?"
Secondly, don't even expect it to be a tier deck. Look at any of the Standard Event Decks, for example, the Theros one. UW Heroic. LOL. The Event Deck could very well be, I don't know, mono-white Soldiers or mono-black Vampires.
That said, I do hope that it is at least something playable. In the proud tradition of Standard Event Decks and Premium Deck Series, I'll guess that it's some kind of red aggro deck. Burn, RDW, Goblins, mono-red Affinity...can't go wrong with those.
Keep in mind that Event Deck was made before they knew the Theros meta. Their FL testing is hardly an accurate representation of the competitive Standard meta.
The two Legacy event decks were Burn and DnT. Decks that at one point enjoyed being called Tier 1.
For 75$, i can't imagine them printing some trash like Mono B Vamps. I couldn't put together a Mono Black Vamps list for a pre-con that would be worth 75$. I can't imagine Wizards could either.
Print Jund, card for card as a tier 1 contender. Laugh/cry yourself to sleep nightly for the next 6 months depending on whether or not you already own the deck, lol.

If that happened, it would just be priced at $1700.
Judging by the legacy burn and D&T deck lists what we are going to get will probably be quite good. I'm afraid the stores will just sell it at 3xMSRP. It's going end up same godsend gift as MM which WotC so graciously sent upon the stores last year.
Lets al be honest. It will be a tier 1-1.5 deck. Most likely affinity, because its an easy deck to run, and wizards would probably want to smart small and work it's way up. Plus its cheap.
It's not going to have a playset of anything, but likely 2 or 3 of things. Playsets of commons.
I can see it being Tokens now that someone mentioned it. Like, holy crap that really makes the most sense. Soldier/Spirit Tokens, and 5 of them cuz you're playing, y'know, tokens!

Even a bad affinity is still alright.
That's what I'm starting to think. I said at the start of this thread that I thought it would be a Tron deck, and I think that that's still possible, but it would be just as viable (although, IMO, not as cool) for them to put out an affinity deck.
fyi, there has never been a planeswalker in an event deck.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there has ever been a mythic in event decks, right?
Guess there's gotta be a first for everything.

Edit: Cap beat me to it.
Grixis Death's Shadow, Jund, UW Tron, Jeskai Control, Storm, Counters Company, Eldrazi Tron, Affinity, Living End, Infect, Merfolk, Dredge, Ad Nauseam, Amulet, Bogles, Eldrazi Tron, Mono U Tron, Lantern, Mardu Pyromancer
Look for cards that fit into fair decks. Hell, I'd expect Affinity before Pod.
Actually, I retract my earlier statement about Boros.

Or would that be too cheap?

Also, I don't think anyone will actually put a bunch of tokens into play if they're on Twin. You just name a number and the rest is trivial.

Step 2. Release U/ Fae event deck, obviously including Bitterblossom.
Step 3. Fill pool full of money.
