How do they justify banning a card like DRS, and then in the same sentence bring a card like bitterblossom back in? Apparently they've learned nothing from the past.
How powerful do we think KotR is going to be now that DRS is out of the format?
Not any stronger than before. What makes KotR good is utility lands, which Modern lacks in comparison to Legacy (where KotR is a cornerstone of Maverick).

He'll get a little bit better. He was around in Big Zoo and Hatebears before DRS, he'll come back after he's gone again too. Don't buy the hype though. He just went from hampered back to playable.
Snapcaster Mage will probably finally hit the heights its raw power level suggests it should.
I think the biggest benefactor though is going to be Scavenging Ooze. Its reign has not been realized with DRS stealing its spotlight just 3 months after its printing.
Edit - Aside: The supply of Mistbind Cliques also seems to have dried up on MTGO. Hopefully the price will equalize and they will be available again when the cards become legal.
i know it was, but drs pushed it over the top imo. like I said, I think it will still be a deck without it, just not in the numbers it was. Witch for the format as a whole, is a good thing. I'm looking forward to seeing what fairies and zoo bring to the table.
First they came for seething song and I did not speak out because I was not a storm player. Then they came for deathrite shaman, and I did not speak out, because I was not a Jund player. Then they came for Snapcaster Mage, but I did not speak out, because I was not a U player. Then they came for my deck, and there was no one left to speak out for me. But screw eggs because no one liked that deck anyway.

That seems only half true. Knight will definitely be better because DRS isn't around to just keep it at 2/2 anymore. Also is Jund/BGx falls into Tier 2, it means there will be fewer Abrupt Decays, which will make Knight a more attractive threat as well since it'll be pretty easy to keep out of Bolt range.
other thoughts:
Nacatl might persuade me to play zoo/tribal flames. straight forward deck that i'd enjoy. they also got the reasoning completely correct. kudos for admitting their mistake.
DRS ban is surprising, but not entirely unexpected. card did way too much for its cost. but it does open up a lot of avenues that were previously hindered by it. are all those avenues tier 1? probably not, but they're at least playable now.

I highly doubt Jund/BGx is going to fall to tier 2, and I'm sure that Abrupt Decay is still going to see a TON of play as one of the best removal spells in the format, if not the best.

Because Deathrite Shaman is probably better than Bitterblossom?
Remember that in Legacy, which has a much higher power level than Modern, Deathrite Shaman is one of the most-played cards in the format; it's that good. Meanwhile, Bitterblossom barely exists in it because it can't keep up with the format's raw power.
guess I was a step ahead buying a set of mistbind clique yesterday for $17
I play DRS and just finally assembled BUG - idc about it being banned. It was so annoying when there was one on either side of the field - and annoying enough for most with 1 on the field.
Bitterblossom will see play in many decks - not just fae
A wide variety of black decks could possibly take advantage of this alongside a hefty discard and sacrifice suite (hello modern gate!) lols maybe.
Wild Nacatl... ugh - should have never been on the ban list but man I hate playing those decks.

Does this mean it would be a safe investment to start picking up Bant pieces? Hieararchs, KotRs, and Snaps all seem pretty solid now. How solid is Zoo going to be? I am trying to get back into Magic after being forced to sell my collection a year ago. I really need a Modern deck that is not a gimped version of Storm lol.
jund will never be tier 2. it was always tier 1 even before RTR came out. its just more in line with everyone else and won't be 50/50 across the board any more.

He just got banned and you already want to free deathrite shaman? Really?
You do realize that they basically replaced the current "best G one drop creature in the format" with a potentially new "best G one drop creature in the format"?
A bunch of people should read that paragraph, think, read it again, let it sink in, then read it again, and then think if they maybe should stay away from banned list discussions if the don't have any clue at all what they are talking about.
I had the same reaction... true dat

agree. They are too good to go to tier 2, that's one reason I think the ban of drs is justified. However, I wonder what the new kind will look like? Does it pick up bitterblossim? Another super efficient spell? What do you guys think?

It also had Bloodbraid Elf at the time.
Then again, it didn't have Abrupt Decay or Scavenging Ooze.
Man I am so happy! Little irked that i didn't follow my gut and scoop up the blossoms before tonight, but hey no risk no reward.
To those saying Bitterblossom will go into bg/x decks, I think you are incorrect, at least not without a major overhaul. In fact I feel like BG/x decks just got a whole lot more diverse. Bitterblossom will see play, and i'm guessing a lot of it. People will try to jam fae but i think that deck will have a harder time than before. Supreme Verdict, Abrupt Decay, and Loxodon Smiter all seem like fine additions to the older Volcanic Fallout or Krosan Grip.
Zoo is back in a big way (hopefully) which makes my life a bit easier. It's a powerful yet fair deck that wants to turn guys to the side. If it shows up in my area, i feel like many of the decks I play will have an easier time than some. Smallpox use to do a lot of work against zoo so i'm definitely looking forward to casting that spell more often.
I called those two, but I didn't necessarily see DRS being banned. I feel luke warm about it. One one hand i know it's a power house, but on the other hand i liked having it as an option to build with. It makes sense to ban it though, as it was a major source of life gain for the suicidal bg/x decks which helps to disuade people from just jamming in 4 bblossoms. I can see DRS coming back in time, so i'm not gonna run off and unload my set, but i'm not going to hold my breath either.
I look forward to the brewing there is to be done, it's very exciting.
He just got banned and you already want to free deathrite shaman? Really?
Yeah I'm knee-jerking pretty hard over here, I gotta admit.
I do see the ban as pretty ridiculous though, considering how much those unbans will shake up the meta.
Besides, being outraged is fun, right?

I kinda envision Jund and Junk becoming two distinct decks at this point. Jund will probably replace DRS with something like Grim Lavamancer to be a one drop that is still decent later in games. Junk will probably become more Lingering Souls based with stuff like Voice of Resurgence and KotR. Ajundi will probably be pretty dead without DRS to help fix their mana unless they just want to straight replace it with Birds of Paradise.

I'd imagine that could be part of it. Fae would love to play DRS and would easily be able to make a BUG Fae list very possible.

Of course it had Bloodbraid Elf back then.
Storm Crow is strictly worse than Seacoast Drake.

Speculate less. Test more.

I respectfully disagree. They replaced the best B 1 drop ever, with a G 1 drop that like most other one drops, is mostly good in the early game.
