Red should be burn, Goblins, Dragons, draw/discard, and Standard-unplayable 5CMC cards with insane, lengthy effects that take 10 minutes to figure out what they do and another 20 to actually make their effects work on the field.
It's ironic that they unbanned Nacatl because banning it didn't increase diversity but they banned DRS to increase diversity.
I was thinking the exact same thing. I'm happy to have a chance to play BB again, perhaps even enough to actually play modern a little more. That said, this format is far too mismanaged for me to sink much time or consideration into it. At least they let legacy police itself, which is in my eyes the sign of a vibrant, healthy format.

Today we mark the death of Jund's reign as lord of Modern. The loss of Deathrite it going to hit them hard and even now they have difficulty with fliers. How will they do when Bitterblossom Tokens are everywhere?

The update seems good. I'm not 100% Deathrite sold needed to go but I do see where the DCI is coming from on this one. No more DRS will lead to more diversity and an overall healthier format, IMO.
Pleased with the unbans too. Both of those cards deserve to be playable in Modern.

It's good as long as it's on the reactive end. Fae could theoretically tank the spell as long as it keeps UWR playing on its terms and not theirs.
Perhaps, but we also have Supreme Verdict. I think everyone is forgetting all the cards we have around now that weren't around in Lorwyn. I don't think BB is going to have the impact a lot of people here think it will. The Nacatl unbanning will be much more impactful imho.

Except we know that there were decks pushed out of the format due to DRS (Aggro Loam, KOTR based decks) Unlike with nacatl where it was a literal crapshoot.
I'm personally shocked that Deathrite Shaman got banned. It was not too powerful and it died to everything.
I am glad that nacatl got unbanned.
Bitterblossom will be interesting but it could be harmful, we'll see.
I've been trying to get bitterblossoms ever since I saw the update and I can't find them anywhere on mtgo, looks like the price will skyrocket, which sucks, another rare that costs way more than it should.
Don't worry, this unbanning just points towards even more towards the event deck being tokens

The return of BB pretty much means Geist of Saint Traft is done. Also, I'm in the "DRS didn't need the ban" camp. Card was not broken. Easy to kill, easy to play around.
So, now DRS drops in price, BB goes up $40, and I'm out some cash and will never see any BB's. This blows.

Sure, but back then they had Volcanic Fallout and that amounted to diddly.
You could very much be dead, or at the least in a sore position regardless, when you're resolving that SupDic.
But that's just me doomsaying. We'll see real soon what the actuality of the situation is.

I agree. I remember when Land Tax was unbanned and people went nuts for it without knowing any deck to use it. and it hasn't done anything since its unbanning. now I expect more from BB nut not the silly dominance of the Fae in Lorwyn\Shards standard. also Supreme Verdict is an uncounterable sweeper so that will help keep it in check.
I worry about the Deathrite Shaman ban from a perception standpoint. Modern has long had the reputation of being the format where "anything good gets banned" and Deathrite Shaman's banning certainly seems to provide support for that. The unbannings do help counterbalance that a little (it would've been completely awful if it was just the DRS ban), but it's still something that people will notice and ask themselves if they want to try to invest in the format where they're in constant fear of a ban.

I get snapcaster decks easily dealing with DRS, but you're not thinking about some of the pure graveyard decks.
Rites was nearly unplayable, loam just dissapeared lol, living end dropped back into 2.5, dredgevine dissapeared too.
In all of modern, deathrite shaman is the second most played creature. That's reducing diversity. It's a one mana planeswalker for god sakes.
Just retarded that WoTC decides on more Banning for Modern....Unbans: Yes....But stop the Bannings.....I'm a fan of modern but this is pushing me more and more away from (and most all of my decks didn't include DRS, but IMO it has a place, and did not ever seem to be over taking the format- widely played, sure but I was OK with that).....
Shame on WOTC...stop the bannings...
Bant could be interesting. Throw in some Qasali Pridemage to combat the new menace of Bitterblossom and maybe that new Brimaz guy since he would work very well with the exalted triggers of Hierarch and Pridemage.

Pleased with the unbans too. Both of those cards deserve to be playable in Modern.
Their deck will play four bitterblossoms.

That being said, does anyone think that BANT will come back strong now even more than Naya Zoo?
Now that KotR is back to being a house, imagine this creature base...

4 x Snapcaster Mage
4 x Knight of the Reliquary
With Geists being optional...
