Hey there guys, welcome to the Pro Tour Valencia Thread. This thread is to be MTGSal's Official Modern Discussion Thread. Feel free to share what you see, your reactions, and you're predictions. Remember, people may be viewing this thread at work/on their phone, and cant watch the stream, so you filling in information is really helpful. Below I will list the archtypes show on camera per round and which won.

Randy is a former pro and WotC staff, so he's probably had a big hand on the Modern format. Rashad, yeah, but they need some derp. Like, they need someone who explains the game at some really basic level because they have a bunch of people watching that won't understand. It's one of the reasons why they don't have a Legacy GP, because people will have trouble following and it won't lead to them making more money.
There's a word in the stream (which, by the way, is in fine form this morning...as we can expect from a Twitch chat) that TWoo is on Living End. Will be curious to see the other lists as they are made available.
Is Rashad still asking if Pod plays a 6-drop? Damn this guy really is clueless. I mean, I thought he was saying stuff like "must attack Gideon even if it has 0 power" for the people at home that don't know Magic as well. But the 6-drop in Pod means he also doesn't know Modern.
EDIT: He just questioned whether there was a Kiki in Melira Pod. It's RRR in a WBG deck... No Rashad, please. I feel like Randy's just like "they're paying me, they're paying me, don't snap, just deal with it"

Yeah, Rashad is the designated Derp of the tournament. He's now showing how little he knows about Twin.
Craig Wescoe on BW Tokens against Craig Hampton on UWR Twin. Haven't seen a BB so far but it could be in Tokens.
I hope some pro scrubs out, so on day 2 we have someone in booth who actually plays modern.
Yeah, LSV in the booth during PT Montreal was tons of fun. A good personality combined with expert level knowledge was really something. Randy is doing some real work there though, better than most commentators.
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Randy was one of the people who tests Modern for them. He sounds knowledgeable enough that he's sitting there wondering exactly how the format breaks if they unban Nacatl.
EDIT: why is he running Remand in that control deck?
To mix up the counters in his deck so the opponent won't know what to play around. It also has uses in counter wars, living end, and snapcaster mage. Running 1-2 copies in UW control is fine, see the list I posted above.
It's funny that Conley is playing 4 Chord, 3 Pod, because of the Zoo matchup, but every time I watch Sam Pardee test Pod online, he boards out Chords against Zoo.
Some examples of Modern innovation:
"Two hexproof one-drops? Let's make a deck with all of them and a bunch of auras."
"8 Racks? Let's make a deck with all of them and a bunch of discard."
"Spreading Seas and Blood Moon? "
