People bashing mana tithe dont understand how it changes peoples play when they know you have it in hand. It slows down decks that can out race you. I agree its not a great card to top deck late in the game, but hitting early drops your opponent taps out for really screws with their mind.

This. One tactic I often is is to side out the tithes after catching one their critical early turn spells in game 1. Just like a kid that had their hand burned from the stove, they will play around the tithe that you no longer have.
I've been a huge fan of mana tithe for a long time, not sure why it's not tried more, my friends when we used to play at our only LGS before it closed used to take me as crazy to even name it, it's a terrible late game topdeck, as many other cards, and yet as you guys were saying, people WILL play around it if they get burned once.
The real issue is that I don't know which deck would use it well, u/w and all variants seem to have lists usually pretty tight. I also had dreams of bringing back my old WUB tang from vintage(adapted of course) just for the lulz to use again sage of epityr + ninja of the deep hours, but I guess that's too magical christmas land. I still think sage might be a okayish drop though. I really miss more deck manipulation...

Vintage nostalgic, WUB Fish control/aggro addicted.
Legacy:RUG Temur Delver
Modern: ??? undecided.
Mana Tithe is actually pretty relevant in Boggles in racing situations vs sweepers.

- Amanda Woodward, Un Autre Con
I just think that decks that really want it go for the more powerful spell piece because fixing is so easy in modern. It could see more play but someone who is looking playing competitive magic is just going to pass over it.
Game 1 Turn 1 untapped U source kinda telegraphs, among a few other options, Spell Pierce.
Game 1 Turn 1 untapped W source really only telegraphs Path to Exile.
And this is the fundamental reason behind Mana Tithe working. Unlike Pierce, no one expects Tithe (until they've seen it). Also unlike Pierce, Tithe can come out to punish a player for casting any sort of spell rather than just a noncreature one.
Tithe is a mindgames card, you show it off once and leave them trying to figure out the Tithe subgame on their own while you play more damning cards in their place post-game. Or hell, you keep it in anyway because for some silly reason you're matched against a deck where Tithe does more action than, say, Path to Exile (looking at you, Bogles).
