9 on day one, another 6 on day 2, then the T8.

I expect Zoo to start asserting its presence in the meta. Everyone and their extended families were prepared for it at PTBNG, but with slow combo and control making up a major part of the meta, I think we'll see a gradual dropoff in the maindeck Anger of the Gods.

This is also the first real chance for a Fae deck to make itself known. PT BNG was largely everybody scrambling to deal with Zoo, so nobody really gave it a shot; now that everyone's taken a breather, it has a chance to shine.

I believe monoU tron will make top 16.

meh. On storm, since its the deck I know inside and out as well as its proactive and able to finish rounds fairly quickly. Even if I go 0-3, it doesnt matter with the quality and quantity of side events hanging out. I am playing a piece of sideboard spice (pretty much known of now thanks to modo) that should help give a leg up against enchantment based hate.

Question: any update on the ammount of players? I know we got to around 4100 last I checked last night.


Also... With at least 4100 players, that means you go X-2, you still might not top 8. Lol, thats freakin nuts.

Also, with 4100 players, that means if there are 100 people playing the same deck, its only 2% or so of the meta.

Fun facts. If a Blue moon like deck sweeps outta no where and only has like 3 people playing it its like .001%. Stupid!

By sheer numbers alone, this might be a diverse meta.

Knowing me I would play whatever I am excited about at the moment of registration. My black control deck has been dropping the hammer on Storm all day on MTGO (so many storm decks), and it is pretty versatile while not being too laborious. Granted, I tend to get overly enamoured of decks I play so I don't always see the holes in my strategy. The smartest thing for me to do would be to play UBG Infect as it is not too taxing and I have played it a lot, but I lack Hierarch in meatspace. The only other modern deck I have played more is Death and Taxes, but it requires a lot of concentration to play effectively and I have neither the focus or the stamina to play it on that level.

Burn to top-16, you heard it here first. (Because nobody else is dumb enough to guess so. XDD)

Only downside to this being in the States is that it starts at 2am for me, so I'll probably only watch the last few rounds that happen on Day 1.

Hey, I already posted this in the UWr forum, cuz obviously I'm biased to see that deck take the GP, but honestly, good luck to everyone. Would still be totally psyched if it ends up being a diverse meta with really close matches regardless of who wins.

Related to the above: Will there be a non-Twitch streaming option as there was for the PT? Again, my connection is too unstable to watch stream coverage unless it's on about a minute delay.

As to above 2, I keep checking twitch app and nothing yet

Only SCG is broadcasting this event, so I believe it is only available on Twitch. If it is available elsewhere, I haven't seen or found a link for it yet.

Anyone know time yet? Not in twitch at the moment but scg says coverage is at ten

I saw Wizards was saying it started at 1 PM EST, but given the size of this tournament (15 rounds before the cut!?) There's no way they could have waited two more hours to start, they would have been playing well into the wee hours of Sunday morning just for the swiss rounds.

Well Damn... These commentators are on point. First subject they tackle: Lack of zoo. They believe it will show up more as people expect their to be a lot of combo, and zoo is good against those decks.

Then they talk about the differences between fast zoo and big zoo, and how big zoo while good against small zoo, cant race combo, and is a bad meta choice in their opinion. Looks like we got smart guys this go around...

Sounds like the final count was 4,344. So it didn't break the record, but still about 3 times what most expected.

2014 and they are wearing cans for commentating... All the money SCG makes and they have cans.

Not sure how much I agree with control being able to come in and be prepared for any and all decks they will see. But that is a problem with big events like this.

I only recently got into competitive Magic, but that's one of the few cards that I never thought I'd see in a tournament of this size. This is going to be a wonderful weekend of Magic.
