Am I mistaken, or is 17$ for damping sphere about 3-4$ higher than last week
I was buying foils last Friday and almost pulled the trigger on Damping Spheres around $13-$14. I decided to wait for now, but they definitely went up a little from what I could have gotten then for on Friday.
You guys may have seen me say this before, but a play set of foils was preselling for $60 on Ebay right before the set dropped. I passed on it because I thought it would only go up about $10 each past this, so hard to sell for that much more. I regretted it after seeing 1,000 posts on facebook trying to sell at $35-40 each. I guess now the only thing to do is wait for them to go down because I actually DO want 1-2 foils now.
When it’s the last 2 foils you need for your 75 it’s worth it. Modern being in somewhat of a lull right now seemed like an ok time to spend.
Any chance torpor orb could see increasing play with humans being the top deck now?
I see the new Karn keeping a price of at least $24 for quite a while.
Huh? He's at 40 dollars and climbing right now. He may drop a bit but he's playable in about every format under the Sun. And being colorless is playable in any deck in existence. I hate to say it but 40 bucks may seem like a steal in a few months time. I hope I'm wrong but I have a feeling I'll be right.
I needed to find a better way to say that. I meant that I don't think it will drop that much while it's in Standard, with $24 being the floor, perhaps after a new set that has PW hype also. I don't think it will fall as far as Chandra, Torch of Defiance did, but then she held that price almost to her rotation.
Yes, they are $40 right now, but I don't see them going up, as Dominaria seems to be a set that people will open in droves. I may even do Limited for the first time in a while after a friend shared his pool with me online yesterday. It looks very promising. The only thing I can foresee making the card going up in the immediate future is its presence in a nationwide winning deck list.
Ok, thanks that makes more sense. I'll be honest I think the rock bottom floor will be 30 bucks and wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't drop below 40. My gut feeling says this is a 50-60 dollar card a few months out, even with all the packs about to be opened. I suppose a huge second print/resupply could drop the prices. I hope I am wrong, but I'm worried I am right.
I'll toot my own horn. Called it a while back.

The GP in Vegas will be the test, if Affinity Karn spikes it...watch out.
He's already more than $50 while being in a current, very popular Standard set that drafts triple packs. His price is already unprecedented, and I have a hard time seeing that trend continue to rise until at least it is no longer drafted.
I imagine he'll go the same way as Liliana TLH and Chandra TOD; even out around $30 before slowly creeping up as printing stops.

I say Teferi stabilizes around 30 but Karn he has serious potential in Modern and Beyond. Unlike Chandra.
Dominaria is going to bring in the cash with overpowered Mythics.

I guess it's unprecedented for a card that doesn't have the word "Jace" in it though.
Jace senior was before the print run boon of post-RTR, but I forgot about Jace Jr. (mostly because I try to block out that part of Standard, and the fact that he's mostly worthless in Modern/Legacy).
If Karn is a 4x staple in the best Standard deck, he may get there. But eternal demand would have to be pretty high to keep the price that much when SO MANY COPIES will have been printed and in circulation.
Karn is breaking the mold. Market has absorbed the first round of cards and the demand seems to be far outstripping the supply as evidently people are sitting on Karn as he is not only playable across formats but his big brother version hovers around the 90 to 100 dollar mark which may give some hesitation to sell. That he can be played in multiple formats and in multiple decks makes gives him a leg up over say a JTMS. I will not be shocked at all to see him balloon to 80 USD in the next few weeks and I would not be shocked to see him settle in at the 60 USD mark even after the next wave of Dominaria is released by Wizards. Again, I hope I'm wrong as I'd love to pick up 2 more for a complete playset, but I fear I will be correct. If he gets jammed into too many decks in Standard and starts showing win after win, I wouldn't be shocked by a Standard ban this Summer or Fall. Guess we will have to wait and see.

i cant see karn eating a ban in standard. for one wizards would have to be a special sort of desperate to ban a card in standard again, and two karn (so far) hasnt facilitated any one particular strategy or deck. rather its just being jammed into every sort of deck being played right now, each of which is distinctly different. if they were going to take that route then they shoulda axed walking ballista long ago.

I agree with you, but the ubiquitous use of the card is what got roflcopter banned. It's been only two blocks since we've had evidence this is something wizards considers, even within this same standard rotation.
The conversation that should happen at WOTC for every colorless card
A: Hey, so this is the final result for Karn's Dominaria version. Is it good?
B: I can already tell its really good. People will buy tons of boxes to get it.
A: Will it see constructed play?
B: Hell yes! You worried its too good? Doesn't seem OP to me.
A: Yeah but something still feels off.
B: Oh...I see. Its colorless so its good enough that every deck will just play a couple no matter what their plan is.
A: Right! Let's nerf it a bit to balance out its flexibility.
B: Makes sense, otherwise everyone will get sick of games turning into who played Karn first or kept it out longest. Hey what do you want to do for lunch?
A: Gyros?
B: Gyros are sweet, I'll drive.
At almost 60$, Karn would help sell boxes and packs. WotC won't ban him. Or I could be wrong... because they banned JTMS years ago. Karn is same cmc as Jace, and goes into more decks due to being colorless.
The demand for Karn is definitely based in Standard. Banning has him (or eventual rotation) will definitely hurt pricing, even if it becomes an Affinity staple (which, even if it does, its maybe 2 copies).
Eh Roflcopter aint an Iconic Planeswalker plus I am not nearly so sure Karn will be all powerful in standard with no Kaladesh providing a glut of artifacts especially Vehicles. He wont eat a ban until November or December at the earliest and even that is unlikely. Either way he will get far more of the proverbial rope then Roflcopter did.

Prices are holding because this has been the most popular set to get released since Theros. The entire launch run of boxes was consumed and we're still a couple of days away from the next restock as they are drip feeding out the booster boxes right now. Any price on standard cards people are seeing at this moment are from artificial scarcity. Well, not sure if that is the correct term since it's actually scarce because people went crazy on the purchasing. I said this multiple times already, but the cards are at their highest prices they will ever be at this point in time until years down the line. People might as well wait it out.

This set is so popular that I think the market is going to absorb the second wave nearly as fast as the first. (I could be wrong). I don't think we are going to see a significant drop in Karn's price. Again, I hope I am wrong, but I think I may be right. Waiting until Karn rotates out of Standard may not be an option for some. The pro tour/shortly after will decide the meta. Then prices will stop fluctuating.
Then hopefully the price of Karn, Scion of Urza can go down a bit...OR it could go up, which is pretty scary. I'm more upset with myself that I didn't speculate on History of Benalia (the one card from Dominaria that I wanted to spec on) at $11 each preorder. I would have definitely bought at least 12 of them if it had started at $8, but $11 felt like it didn't give me much squeeze room. I think it's sitting at over $20 now.

Karn's price is going to depend heavily on how the Standard metagame shakes out. Right now the only decks that definitely want him are the WB variants and Bant Midrange. If the UW build that comes out on top is one with him in it, he'll be able to maintain a ridiculously high price, possibly reaching close to $100. If he remains a 4-of in the dominant WB archetype but falls out of favor in other places, he'll fall down to a bit above the $30 range where Scarab God and Hazoret were when they were on top of the meta. If he continues to see play in WB and is good in tier 2 standard decks and/or finds a home in non-rotating formats, he'll end up around the $50 range he's currently in.
