Well if you want to play GDS it's certainly better to get reps in sooner than later. Deck is notorious for being difficult
I plan on putting it together after work tonight and hopefully getting some reps in over the enxt few weeks, At this point I need to get a lot of practice with whatever I need to play
Rather than a whole new deck, why not try a slightly different engine Monastery Mentor, I've seen a build use this and the prowess tokens are a threat in a deck with around 30 non-creature spells...
Sideboard wise Leyline of the Void or Rest in Peace are just required at the moment. Wear / Tear, Infernal Reckoning and Blood Moon might all have uses depending on your meta... Note that unlike Young PyromancerMonastery Mentor will trigger off artifacts and enchantments so, you can support more card types. Bedlam Reveler might need to be given up on, other decks are doing more powerful things with the graveyard, or sided in if you main-deck Rest in Peace. Can you post a list here or on tappedout, that way you might get improvements for the deck, rather than a new list...
I am playing a Modern Cash event today. These are the decks I expect to face - UR Phoenix, Bant Spirits, Burn, and Tron all in that order. These are the decks I have with me - Grishoalbrand, Abzan Company, Abzan Evolution, Elves, and possibly Scales. Which would do the best vs. these? (there will be plenty of other decks, but I have to pick what I'll beat) Other suggestions are welcome too!
*And yes, I should have thought this out earlier. Yes.

Oof. I don't think one of your decks is able to beat all of them. Heavy creatures decks that rely on board presence and are not packing much interaction are very likely a dog against Thing in the Ice and a flurry of bolts.
And Grishoalbrand isn't the most consistent deck if you want to do well in a event.
I wouldn't say GDS crush these. I even think that UR Phoenix is the only good mu out of those. Bant Spirits is good against GDS although it's much closer than Humans and it depends whether they play Reflector Mages (and how many copies) or not. It's unfavored against Tron in my experiences and if you play against good Burn player it's going to hard too.

My decks:
Modern:
Mardu Pyromancer
Grixis Shadow
Traverse Shadow
Jund
Abzan
The Rock
I think UR Phoenix is supposed to beat GDS. It crushed them in the top 8 match I watched on SCG earlier. GDS tends to not have a lot of ways to push through damage unlike Phoenix.
GDS should (I believe) be favoured. It can kill Thing, disrupt the engine/cantrips, and throw down a threat which Phoenix struggles with. If thats not happening, well Phoenix may just be that good I guess.
The main reason why I don't play Grixis Death's Shadow is … drum roll please … twofold. The first reason is that I get mana flooded too often. The first 5 land drops are fine. It makes it easy for me to grow potential Death's Shadows (and I do mean potential since I may never draw them; Thought Scour is a spiteful fig as 2 Death's Shadows in the graveyard is usually GG). The other problem I have is that I had the deck foiled before, but now there's new cards in, like Mishra's Bauble and Faithless Looting (I have that in foil, but not the Baubles). I don't want to play the deck partially foiled. It's 75 non foil or 75 foil.
I may consider 4 Color Shadow, as Traverse the Ulvenwald gives me 8 Death's Shadows and possible silver bullets. I've been really enjoying Eldritch Evolution decks, as I have outs to many different kinds of decks with mana dork into Eldritch Evolution for the silver bullet creature.
I went with Druid Evolution with Postmortem Lunge.
I won 4 rounds, but lost rounds 4 and 5 to Burn in 3 super close games. Ended up a disappointing 11th. Beat Scales, BG Midrange, Humans, lost to Burn, lost to Burn, and beat Red Prison.
The round 4 Burn dude ended up in the top 2, which each got the invitation and cash (2 Burn players, ugh!)
*And you have to understand that I'm very superstitious. I refused to play Caw Blade in tournaments in Standard before because I never got turn 2 Stoneforge Mystic in practice on turn 2. Even with mulligans, I could not get there. So, me drawing all 18 lands in GDS makes me really not want to play the deck. I could do better if I draw well with Cragganwick.

Well, KCI has bitten the dust. I had been trying to test Amulet Titan over the last few weeks in preparation of the impending shakeup, but I haven't really been loving the deck. It just feels much more janky and inconsistent than KCI. I don't want to question the results of pro Amulet players like Daryl Ayers, but is the deck really that great? Obviously it has insane potential, but it seems to be much much harder to get to a level of proficiency with the deck. Are there other strong combo decks at the moment? I haven't really heard about Storm making any waves at all, and haven't seen anyone but the Storm Bros playing the deck in any big tournaments lately. I have UW Control which I'll probably play more of now, but I feel I'm more a combo player at heart.
I must say that I would hardly classify Amulet as a Combo deck to begin with. The old versions with Hive Mind sure. But the ones with Primeval Titan as the main game plan are pretty much Ramp decks just like Tron. All the land interactions just feel combo-y
Thats fair, but it has a lot of 'combo-ness' going on with the Amulet, bounce lands, drop extra lands, drop a titan, get MORE lands, and kill while getting even MORE lands.
Is Mardu pyromancer still a deck? Thinking of building that one when the meta is unfavored towards my death shadow. Or will it have the same bad matchups as shadow does?

Yes, this is it. It is a ramp deck with a toolbox that uses Tolaria West to find specific lands, Engineered Explosives, Pacts, or Walking Ballista in order to sculpt a game winning plan.
I think Amulet is indeed very strong, but the problem I personally found is that it is NOT like other Combo decks that kill you when they go off. Amulet kills you if you have 2 or more Amulets, yes. But if you have 1, you literally rely on Pact of Negation stopping your opponent from ruining your game plan or killing you outright next turn.
It is actually a pretty grindy deck, especially if you don't have an Amulet of Vigor in play. Yes, you have the nut hand double Amulet of Vigor kills, but outside of that, you're pretty much in for a game that will have lots of decisions that can all be very costly or extremely rewarding. I don't know if that's where you want to be in this meta, rather than just Dredging stuff up or Thing bouncing while Birds smash. I have heard that it does have a good matchup vs. both of these decks, although I haven't personally tested them yet.

Yeah, I'm not really a fan of just dumping dudes and turning them sideways.. That's why I really loved that KCI was actually viable, and then a clear contender, and then defacto top deck. I'm just trying to get over it being gone by finding something similar to cling to.
I have GDS built and am looking for another deck that's good in a meta where GDS isn't. I also have Burn almost fully built just to have as a secondary deck on days where I'm tired and want games to be quick.

Izzet Phoenix? You already have the manabase and a lot of the key cards.

Should I be looking at burn or combo decks?
Mardu Pyro is great against all the fair decks. The bad mu are Big Mana decks in general, but you can win even that decks with a correct sideboarding. It's a deck who rewards the expertise of the meta because is highly customizable. For me, is totally underplayed in relation to his power level.
As a Jund longtime player (since 2014) its time to move on and I'm having issues on choose the next deck.
I like Tron and Amulet Titan. Which one should I choose?

Amulet. Tron will always be what it is, but Amulet has a better ceiling imo.
While I agree with the choice, I think Tron has the better floor and better average play. I feel like Tron could be a better choice unless someone wants to spend hours and hours perfecting Amulet. (spoken as someone who has played it and Bloom for quite a bit and still has trouble with lines)
I also kind of wonder why Tron has dropped in play quite a bit recently. I'm assuming it has something to do with the decline of Control and Midrange near the top of current metagames?
