Very interesting to see the deck lists that made it 7-1. I didn't expect so much grixis control, in fact Grixis in general is the hot wedge color right now. People are realizing now the power of Kolaghans Command.
Another thing I'm noticing is the rise of Delver decks again. This time though we are seeing different varieties of develer from the ever popular Grixis, the BUG version here, and RUG delver that took down an earlier SCG IQ.
I'm excited to see where the modern meta will go from here.
Actually an interesting dynamic at work here. Jund was all the talk and Grixis decks are not doing bad either and if you next leveled the whole thing you would find yourself on Abzan again since it's great against all matter of Delver strategies and it has the upper hand in the pseudo-mirror against Jund too.
Probably why there were two Abzan Midrange decks going 7-1 and not Jund.
The Abzan Company decks are a special case and therefore don't count here.

Just wanted to add that Zack Witten's Grixis Control list looks more like a midrange than a control list to me (Electrolyze and Kolaghans Command as the only real CA spells, only 19 lands, no Cryptic Command, a Young Pyromancer MD).
You can probably argue about what's a 'real' control deck, but I think many would agree that this list is more midrange than control.
I wonder how effective his 2x Stubborn Denials are with only 5 creatures that trigger ferocious.
Good lord but all the guys in the top 8 are down on Modern. "yeah it's just a coinflip, I'm only here because I have to be"
Nice to see some enthusiasm.
Grixis really is picking up steam online as well, I wonder what percentage of this is due to the increased availability of Bloodstained Mire and Polluted Delta, and how much of it is because Kommand is the hottest thing you can be doing these days.
Either way, sad Joe Lossett didn't make it to top 8. Wouldn't mind seeing the top 8 last like 5 minutes per match because everyone is turn 2'ing each other!

If Joe Lossett made it into top 8. He was on Griselcannon.
2 Amulet Bloom and a Goryo's reanimator deck= some quick games.

Merfolk made Top 8. Nothing else matters now. Nothing else.
Oh yeah, and the Merfolk guy who crushed Tron is going to be playing against Tron again. #Balance

Or they sit there and do nothing while getting beat down.

I played in a Modern event on Sunday at Las Vegas. I faced a Bloom Titan player who took nearly a 10 minute turn. I almost felt like he was trying to make me scoop, which I didn't do because I had certain stuff that I could draw to still possibly win if he made mistakes. I took 10 minutes max playing in a 50 minute round that went to time. Luckily for me, I had enough blockers to block and swing for exactly 23 lethal damage.
My point is that you never know when a Bloom Titan player will take a long time. Sometimes playing the "longer" way is safe. Of course if the opponent is tapped out and doesn't have Slaughter Pact, a Bloom Titan player on double Amulet can do Primeval Titan with double Slayer's Stronghold activation and swing into Sunhome double strike activation for 20, but there is a "safer" way to do it (for example, if the opponent potentially does have Slaughter Pact).
Also I agree with your predictions. It sounds about right. I will go 1 step further and say Bloom Titan beats Merfolk in the finals.

Are people still seriously dense enough to say that enemy fetches won't be in the set? We were explicitly told that Wizards will not be doing half-cycles of lands in block sets. We got the allied fetches in Khans, couple Wizards' statement with other hints, the enemy fetches will be in Dragons. You have to be a complete idiot to believe otherwise.
I hate how they can only rewind 1 turn. I get it. But still sucks, I feel like if I was in Ali's spot there I would have conceded the game and apologized.
that's ridiculous in my eyes. I feel like that should have been a game loss for ali. you can't just play with tron for 2 turns without actually having tron and expect for everything to be worked out. He played the wrong land by accident. Simple mistake. but due to that mistake he couldn't play ugin and wipe the board. I feel like that was a terrible ruling and possibly skewed towards ali.
