It's odd though, on the SCG Decklist, there is a Cavern and not a Tex Edge. I guess it's an oversight from SCG, but I figured they would go by the official decklist and therefore not list a Cavern.
Wesley could have just won if he had cast Pestermite in response to the Fauna Shaman activation to tap a land, stop him from being able to cast Spellskite that turn, untap, and Splinter Twin.
How much advantage did that one Cavern of Souls give See today? Should he even be in the finals at all? I dunno. This is a weird situation. Hopefully Elves wins and completes Karma's payback.

To be fair, he never played the Tectonic Edge in the tournament, so it was no different than if he had just submitted the decklist with Cavern of Souls, so it didn't give him any more advantage than a correct decklist would have.

It won him the Twin mirror by allowing him to cast an uncounterable Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir.
So, a fair bit of advantage.

Well, I can saw a woman in two, but you won't wanna look in the box when I'm through.

He could just float the mana and still cast the spellskite correct?
EDH is like French fries: some people like waffle cut, crinkle cut, or plain old straight cut, and while there's slight flavor difference and personal preference, at the end of the day they're still fries.

So? If he had submitted the correct decklist, he would have still been able to do that. Since he gained no advantage from writing down Tectonic Edge, he played the game functionally the same as if he had written down the decklist with Cavern of Souls, so making the mistake while registering was not an unfair advantage.

Excited Elves won, but wondering if GP level events should do a top 8 deck check. That game loss makes for poor viewing with the wait and only one game in the finals.
grats on CC elves winning a huge GP. I love seeing a new deck place well at a huge tournament, its nice to see how healthy the format actually is, since we had 3 brand "new" (as in they have never had top 8s in a huge paper event) decks top 8!!!
And all of this with the boogieman of Amulet and Tron and Snapcaster being played by huge number of very good players!!!
“Modern has provided us a non-rotating format that is far more accessible than Legacy or Vintage, but still retains many of the qualities that people enjoy in those formats—such as a more stable metagame, the ability to play and tweak the same deck week after week, and simply a much more powerful card pool than Standard.”

Good tournamrnt. New decks doing well and the matches on day 2 were all very awesome and interactive (welcome back twin). What happened last weekend was the fault of the players not playing twin which is the balancing act of modern. Pattivk Chapin's run was the highlight of the event for me. He played amazingly well with a sweet deck too bad he just barely missed top 8.
I guess we should never underestimate the power of a gang of slim dudes with long ears, pointy noses and long black hair: ElvesFaeries are back on the map.
Exactly! Congrats for Faeries on 19th place with only 3 Faerie lists entering day 2!

Same, but for my Chaos Control. 22 1-2 removal spells are really strong against a deck of 1-2 toughness creatures with only 12 that really matter.
