Krusty McGruff has had it with this new fangled frame(even though its over 10 years old). He has vowed to only use cards with the original card frame. Now Krusty understands that he can't live in the past, that is why the only format for him is Modern. Its not going well for Krusty, with the power creep of recent sets and most old bordered cards not being Modern Legal.

Can you build him a deck that will let him, with a bit of luck and some good match ups win his local FNM?




My intentions are to do one of these a month, I have a few ideas if you have your own that you would like done, please PM me and if I use it ill give you credit for the idea.

Is nobody interested in something like this, or is it due to difficulty in card searching?

This will give you a larger card pool.

Go look at all the main archetypes of Modern. This is an impossible task. Maybe Mono U Tron, but what would be your wincon? Mono-U Time Walk with Howling Mines, but you don't have enough Time Walks for that to work. You can't have a creature base without going into the Modern frame.

I don't think its impossible, like I said a bit of luck and good match ups. Maybe, what I set the goal as was too unrealistic, maybe just going 3-3?

Hmmm. Do promo versions of cards count?

Heres something that I think would work, like I said with luck and good match ups.

I like the idea of some sort of ponza deck with Blood Moon, Llanowar Elves, Birds of Paradise, Elves of Deep Shadow, Root Maze, Plow Under, Avalanche Riders, some bolts and whatever random finisher, maybe Siege-Gang Commander. It would probably have several horrendous matchups but might be able to squeak out a match against tron or something.

I really like this idea!! Its a fairly large card pool at ~900, but not ridiculously overpowered. Whole new meta potential. Plus the old cards are just better looking

Is there a name for this format? Are others playing it?

My first thought was red as well and I went for a Goblin deck as Goblin Warchief is freshly modern legal. This is a modified version of my early 90s/~2000s goblin deck that ran Goblin Cave and Goblin Shrine and some other pump.
