What spells do you think warrant inclusion maindeck that he isn't including and what spells would you drop to make room for it? It's hard to agree or disagree with your strategy without an example.
-1 Return to the Ranks
-1 Firemantle Mage
-1 Collected Company
-1 Lantern Scout (or Kor Bladehwirl)
+4 Path to Exile / Bolt
This would leave the deck with 27 creatures, more than enough for good Company flips. Then you'd have Path as your hard removal. Path could also be Bolt, if you wanted to be more aggressive, but Path is probably better. Either way, this configuration would better reflect not only every other aggressive deck in Modern worth mentioning (which all have at least 3-4 copies of a disruptive interaction spell), but also reflect other Company strategies. This includes other Allies lists we've seen, Naya Company, and even Slivers (the most-recent, best-performing list rocked 2 Decay and 2 Necrotics). Even the Company D&T/Hatebears lists run disruptive interaction.
I'm not saying the list can't work without disruptive interaction. I'm saying the evidence overwhelmingly suggests it's not optimal without this kind of interaction.
Ok looks good to me. You arent sacrificing any real gameplan and you are adding the standard issue removal suite.
There's no easy fix for what I want so I won't pretend to have an answer, I won't go any further anyway since the banlist thread is for that
Looks like Ray mulled to 5 but Cedric said he kept 7?
I feel like better police cards can help with that. I don't mean Force of Will, that's a bit much for modern. Just more stuff in the vein of Abrupt Decay and Supreme Verdict. Ideally in other color combinations that don't get a lot of love, like White/Black, Blue/Black, Red/White, etc.
That doesn't do anything. People need to avoid putting their personal axes in these kinds of metagame analyses. RG Tron was just a small part of this weekend and banning a piece of it wouldn't do anything. Then we'd be left with a bunch of Burn and Zoo and Burn/Zoo hybrids and other linear strategies. You address this issue by a) waiting for the metagame to adapt over the next few tournaments or b) failing at that, unban Sword or print stronger answers. It just takes a cursory look at these T8s and Day 2s to see that banning cards doesn't do anything unless you want to gut the format and just rip out a swath of linear cards. Wizards obviously isn't going to do that, even if some sensationalist pros are going to argue for that to generate click, so we need to think of realistic solutions.
It's also not clear if this is a problem or just a bad weekend. Every format has bad weekends: GP OKC was much better, and that was just 1.5 months ago. We'll need to see what happens at Pittsburgh and subsequent events.
Yeah, fair point it is a personal axe of mine and I'll keep ban talk to the Ban thread, but like you say there's no real solution without gutting the format right now other than possibly unbans, and printing cards because the last few blocks have accelerated the game a fair (lol) bit.
Yep, I'm surprised he didn't draw exactly 3-4 lands like most of his other on camera matches. Looks like Burn won it.
@Shodai - Relax. It's one tournament. Let's see if it stays the same for the following large Modern tournaments (hint: it won't). I'm just upset that Allies didn't win it all, much less top 8.

Yep, time to up the life gain. I guess we're talking about a 10 minute finals. I hope none of you had to go to the bathroom...

Agreed and the fact Modern can't have it should be a reflection of the kind of Modern of the future. Because it's too powerful lol. Modern will become dominated by blue or by a critical mass of burn spells killing everyone faster than they can say gazonky. I hope burn crushes everyone.
Burn is an awesome deck. The fact it is or is very close to having a critical amount of burn you die in a fire spells for cheap is the result of careful planning. Someone in R and D better bring old blue back to power and release some Counterbalance and SDTop plus Ponder/Preordain on the format or it will burn to ash. The Karn exile Goblin Guide was hilarious AND sad and I am sorry if no one can figure out why. In response, spin top......
The biggest issue I have with Burn (along with Eidolon of the Great Revel >.>) is simply that they've printed so many decent ways of stopping lifegain. If you're playing a burn deck, you should be a dog to lifegain. It's one of the downsides of playing Burn- like how if you're playing Affinity, you're a dog to anyone who has mass artifact hate like Stony Silence.

Well, I can saw a woman in two, but you won't wanna look in the box when I'm through.
Difference is, Affinity can win though some of that. Easy life gain, cannot be burned through because the top deck isnt sufficient and just as we saw today, non-burn decks are nearly just as fast!
If you want to slow things down, we are going to have to look at more than just life gain, we need more ways to force interaction, all imo.
It was another Goblin Guide on turn 3 with the Atarka's Command. I guess I can't be too salty when I lose to Burn since I have yet to face this hand. I have yet to face 4 Goblin Guides in the same game ever.
I personally don't enjoy the Burn mirror. There is no doubt in my mind that it takes a lot of play skill (I actually spent around 8 hours at work one day playing the Burn mirror in the Standard at the time.), but it just isn't much fun for me.
I've faced the quadruple Goblin Guide hand once. I was on UWR Midrange on a mulligan to 5 on the draw (game 3) keeping a hand of fetch, Bolt, Snap, Snap, Geist hoping I could use Guide against my opponent. I won, Guides constantly flipped lands, drew me out of the mulligans (I got something like 6 or 7 cards over the game with them), and combined with a defensive Geist of Saint Traft and some good old Bolt/Snap/Bolt action plus Timely Reinforcements I took the game.
This game was one of the few times I've seen an opponent get legitimately pissed off in a game of Magic.

I don't think this wording would work to get around skullcrack because setting players life totals is still considered gaining / losing life.
More playable ivory mask effects would be nice imo. Aegis of the Gods was a nice try but goblin piker stats is not gonna do it.
