Use this thread to discuss all EMN topics as they relate to Modern. We're generally more lenient in these threads about content, but try and keep things on-topic and constructive (obviously, rules about flaming/trolling/other general forum rules still apply). Enjoy the previews and prepare for a new set!
Generally castable in Tron for 11 mana with an artifact and sorcery in the graveyard, although it does have anti-synergy with Relic. Protection clause means new Emrakul is vulnerable to things like Pulse and the seldom-played O-Ring, but still immune to most common removal options. Losing "can't be countered" stings against control though.
Love the Nahiri flavor. You can loot to fill up your graveyard with different card types, ultimate in Emrakul for an attack, and then re-cast her to get the Mindslaver effect.
uncounterable mind slaver in RG Tron, protection from instants is just another way to type hexproof (since you will gain control of the other guy next turn and use his sorceries/tap all his mana), while costs about 10 considering that Tron will probably have artifact/sorcery in the yard
everytime someone in wotc revisits colorless ideas a kitten dies, yes it does
Unfortunately the new Emrakul doesn't impress me. Not useful to Breach/Vengeance in (Griselbrand and old Emrakul are better), not worth the effort to ramp into (even with the cost reduction). Oh well, at least it's a neat 13-mana 13/13, unlike Griselbrand.

PS:ok i'm hasty, i didn;t notice the extra turn part, my bad sorry! still definately a good card and will compete with Newulamog for supremacy of the Eldrazi both in story and in Modern
It is so much weaker than newlamog

If you couldn't tell I hate greedy blue decks.
Basically, EMNrakul is for the Tron vs. Scapeshift matchup, where you Scapeshift them into absolutely nothing for a crushing uncounterable 10-mana blow.

Noooooo KtKen you beat me here! I forgot about timezones and was going to sneak in the spoiler thread
Anywho, I'm excited for new Emmy and what he brings! On the surface I'd still be playing Newlamog in RG Tron. But this makes me really want to try out the wacky Oath of Nissa + Traverse the Ulvenwald version of the deck. She can go as low as costing 6 which is cool, but not really possible. I can see getting her to 10 easily and maaaaybe even 9.
Newlamog always costs 10 and always exiles two permanents. Emrakul 2.0 will typically cost 10-11 in Tron and will always Mindslave once. I think the expected value of a Mindslaver activation is at least removing two permanents but with higher variance (could get 3+ or could get none). So that seems about even with perhaps a slight edge to Emrakul: there are just so many decks which get wrecked by a Mindslaver activation in so many boardstates.
Newlamog protection stops Pulse and Wraths (unlike Emrakul), but doesn't stop Path to Exile. Emrakul can't die to Path (or, I guess, double Dismember), but does die to Pulse and Wraths (unlike Newlamog). Advantage seems to be Emrakul because Path is significantly more common than Wraths, Pulse, and stuff like O-Ring.
Ulamog attacks are slightly scarier. He always wins in three hits and makes the opponent's deck worse with every swing. Emrakul probably wins in 2-3 hits and can't get chumped, but won't beat Abzan Company on infinite life. Unless, of course, you Mindslave them into a loss.
I'm not super impressed. Would be so much better if you could actually control their turn instead of delaying it. Mindslaver this is not.
It does control their turn though. A "delay" to me would be you get two turns in a row. Sure, they get another one right after, but by that point you have already swung their best creatures into emrakul and used their relevant spells to kill their own guys.

Is this feasible in some Prime Time deck as threat #2?

Down to 10
It doesn't even seem that bad in Nahiri control in the case that you can't Nahiri your Emrakul, since you could probably get it casting down to 9 which is not 15.
Another option is janky Tarfire/Bauble deck where you Grisly Salvage til you have 8 types or whatever. Don't think the payoff is quite enough.
I tried to leave out all the removal that can't hit either of them (like Terminate) or can hit both of them (like Lily -2 or Kiki Chord's Fiend Hunter).
A little bit weaker than her previous self, but more hard cast friendly. Will try her in my Eldrazi deck, though just for fun as the deck isn't built to reliably cast eldrazi beyond 6 mana. Going to get a land, sorcery, and creature in the grave for sure, so that's 10 left.. hmm..
Main reason for getting the card would be for collection purposes.
Idk, ulamog can just hit lands which is huge, always will come down t4 with tron + tower which is huge. Pretty debatable which is better
Following from this, I will say I think Emrakul's biggest problem would not be her Mindslaver effect (its expected value feels higher than Ulamog's in most situations), but rather her casting cost. 11 mana and 10 mana are worlds apart, because T4 vs. T5 is huge. Lossett's Bolt build can get this down to 10, but it's not consistent. Tron already moved away from old Emrakul because she was uncastable early, so for the new one to be playable, she needs to reliably land on T4-T5. Not sure if that's doable.
Good card is good, but I'm much more interested in the implications of even more (possibly cheap) Eldrazi coming into Modern.
I am particularly interested in this point for EldraziTron - if we get a few more cards like TKS or Reality Smasher we might be able to hit critical mass on our lower cost threats. The other issues with the deck is the lack of options for colourless spells; more Eldrazi Spells (so we could tap Temple for them) would be amazing. Like All is Dust but lower cost version of typed removal. Spatial/Warping Wail suffer from not being typed.
Edit: I certainly hope that the horror-fused angelthing turns into an amusing 6-8 drop. It would give me such glee to drop it on people.

I really hope we never see cards like thought-knot seer/smasher again tbh. These cards: violate color pool, are too aggressively costed, and are too aggressively pushed. I know wizards likes to push cards but those cards are the grossest examples of power creep I have ever seen. I'm more okay with cards like drowner of hope/worldbreaker because they require a mana investment both with cost and they cost specific colors.

On mtgsalvation people don't want to discuss ideas, so I give people something else to discuss: my controversial opinions.

How does a colorless-requiring creature violate the color pie when there was no space for those specific creatures before? Personally, I think the colored mana-requiring colorless Eldrazi are much dumber and harder to justify from a flavor standpoint.

of course, I don't run Eldrazi anymore, so it's moot
It's not uncounterable?
