Vampire Nighthawk dies to bolt. Evasion is irrelevant against aggro. Murklurker can give Lifelink to Tasigur/Angler. In Grixis Delver/Midrange he is a valid option imho. In any Sultai lists with Goyf aswell. Kalitas/Vamp. Link is only better in rather control sided lists imho.
Lurker never really saw much modern play. It really shined in standard but that was due to a literal vacancy of life-gain options in blue black.
Vampiric Link is 100% better. Is it better in a control shell? Probably. But it alone shuts down Eidolon of the Great Revel which makes it better regardless.
Like ZB said you have better optons in black if you want to beat faster decks with UB especially in Kalitas and Vampire Nighthawk, Vampiric Link is also an option.
This simply isn't true. Nighthawk isn't a modern playable card because it dies to bolt. Jorubai comes down a turn faster than Kalitas and he can give lifelink to anything.

On mtgsalvation people don't want to discuss ideas, so I give people something else to discuss: my controversial opinions.

My point that lurker was never modern playable still stands.
Also: Nighthawk is arguably more playable than lurker. At least nighthawk would eat a bolt. Lurker is too slow to do anything.
M15 came out in July 2014 according to this. Modern started in late 2011 or early 2012, depending on how you interpret that. Extended died as Modern "took over" as the format that Extended couldn't be.
My personal experience is playing Extended a lot, especially during season at PTQs and the like. I don't remember Jorubai Murk Lurker even being around at that time and much less seeing play. It's a funny thought, but if I played Burn, I would love to see my opponents try this on me. Not to mention, it's literally nearly strictly worse than Courser of Kruphix in most situations, while being in worse colors for Modern.
It did in fact see play...in Standard as a sideboard card against Standard RDW decks. That's it. Sorry to burst anyone's bubble.

I don't know how can you even compare Jorubai Murk Lurker to Kalitas when it's clear that Kalitas is miles better. I honestly think Jorubai isn't Modern playable and is a bad card in general, slow, has low impact, etc. I also didn't say that Vampiric Link is good but it is an option for those colors and I believe it's better than Jorubai.
The only reason Vampiric Link is playable is because of the following reasons:
A) No better life-gain options in Grixis or UB colors. Lurker is too slow. Requires tapping out turn 3 with no feasible benefit until your next turn.
And that's assuming you have a big guy to benefit from it.
B) Shuts off Eidolon of the Great Revel. If you play Vampric link on Eidolon... it is very very hard to loose that game. Every spell your opponent plays turns into lifegain for you.

I agree with this but if I wanted to have life gaining source in black colors I would play Kalitas anyway. I wouldn't even think about Jorubai Murk Lurker, Vampiric Link and similar bad cards.
Vampric links is actually a very very good against burn.
In some ways its even better then Kalitas. The problem: It's less good vs any other aggro deck (zoo, affinity, suicide zoo, etc.)
The individuals who play vampiric link simply don't want to loose to burn. It's the perfect way to sure up that match.

True but it's question if how much sense it has to play a card that's so good against Burn but not against other aggro decks. In this case it's just better to play Kalitas who's also good against Burn but lots of other decks.
Well most decks that would play vampiric link already play kalitas. Some play both.
It makes sense if burn is super popular in your meta.
EDIT: Vampric Link takes up the dragonclaw spot (if anything).
