This lil fella could be the best Card from Kaladesh. i dont know maybe even better than Chandra.
i did plenty playtests in T2 & im blown away. The Card IS a 2 Mana 3/3 Flyer Looter for every Color.
Only Price is Deckbuilding. Someone came up with the idea of adding this to WB Tokenz.
Since Turn 2 Copter, Turn 3 Souls/Procession, animate Copter, attack in the air, draw & then discard Souls
or later useless discardspells doesnt Sound like Magical Christmas Land.
Just every Aggro-Deck that can reliably provide Crew 1 can run Copters.
Yea, i am Aware it dies to Bolt, but it would be worth, if you could at least cycle some Cards.
Do you think Copter has a Chance ? in T2 currently hes everywhere.
I've tried Smuggler's Copter in Affinity, and even there, it felt like a fringe choice.
3 power and 3 toughness are surprisingly good in Affinity, and so is the looting. ...Especially when you loot Scrapheap Scrounger, Affinity's new way to dodge sweepers.
However, I was doing downright unintuitive things just to crew Smuggler's Copter, such as Crew it with manlands (this is concerning in a 22+-creature-card deck) and equip a 0-power creature with Cranial Plating, Crew the Copter, then possibly equip Copter with remaining mana.
With that experience, I don't think Smuggler's Copter has a chance anywhere else. It basically needs to be treated like equipment when deck building. How did it not get hit by Path to Exile in BW Tokens? Did that list play at least 4 creature cards to lure spot removal?
It seems pretty good with Young Pyromancer and Monastery Mentor, from what I was able to see. Plus, those sorts of shells can definitely protect the Copter from non-Decay removal. I'm not sure why you felt those sorts of plays with Copter were unintuitive, Lectrys- When I tried it it seemed okay, if not amazing. It was basically a 3/3 flyer that cost 2 to attack with.

It's a Delver that can help fuel the token generators. Suffice it say, yes, I think that Jeskai Mentor builds are interested. Mardu Tokens might be interested as well, since it can really help speed up their clock and make them a little more resistant to sorcery speed sweepers. Being able to pitch Lingering Souls to the Copter seems right up their alley.
I've played about 4 or 5 games pre and post board against affinity with my mono white humans. The copter did a surprising amount of work. All of its abilities just fit wonderfully. Being able to block flyers, turn useless lands into actual spells make me think of the copter as a nice piece of equipment honestly.
As far as removal by killing the copter, at least you still have the original creature around.

Make this card good, MTG Community! I spec'd on this because of my Standard testing with it, and it was only 10 bucks for the playset. Its already 15 a pop! My first successful speculation, not that I really do much of it.

What about putting Smuggler's Copter in something like one-drop zoo?
You are already running 4 Nacatl, 4 Kird Ape, 4 Loam Lion, etc.
Copter could probably replace, or even go in addition to Flinthoof Boars. Copter gives you extra reach and selection.
Could it work?
I know I want to try it at some point!
Veteran Motorist may even be not that bad. Naya Zoo Vehicles!
you really want to take the efficiently of Zoo and Affinity and waste a creature from their current setups to crew this artifact???
think about it, if you get boardwiped your sitting with just a paper weight. already those decks are designed to pay for other cards that do more than just sit their for a turn.

On mtgsalvation people don't want to discuss ideas, so I give people something else to discuss: my controversial opinions.
Copter isn't just the best card in Kaladesh, it's the best card in standard. and I've been trying to find where it works in modern. So far I don't feel that it fits into any tiered strategies, but seems good in some fringe stuff, mainly tribal..which means it's probably not strong enough. Seems like it goes into most tribal decks by enhancing the power level of the weaker tribe members. It also acts as a lightning rod or umbra to protect the Lords or utility creatures. Tribes also have issues with sweepers, which copter is good against.
I've been trying to think of an all new strategy deck with Copter using Bitterblossom and/or Thopter Spy Network. Both the latter are strong cards, and copter makes them way better. Snapcaster also plays nice, and so does secure the wastes/raise the alarm. If only servo exhibition was an instant.
I purchased 4 packs at FNM last week, and got a Copter and Torrential Gearhulk. With Bomat Courier and the new weird green Fabricate elf that bolsters other attacking creatures with its power. Although the last 2 rares were less exciting, getting a Mythic and a Chase rare same night seemed awesome to me.
That felt like a WIN.

Doesn't seem like it does anything modern wants to do, like having instant value when it enters. How bad is it when your 20 creature deck has 0 creatures alive and 2 copters in play? It just doesn't make sense when you arein a format with bolt and other good removal PLUS better threats. And frankly its slow for modern compared to what alot of decks are doing.
Would have liked to test it in some of my decks, because the looting and evasion looks good. But have to wait for the price to go down a bit. It's crazy expensive over here right now.. it seems like a lot of standard decks are using it. One copter is the same price as some khans fetch. >__<

I've heard several opinions here and there that it's the best card in standard after the rotation so it makes sense.

Vorthos-y Johnny. All will be One
Modern - Cheeri0s (building), Belcher (building), Lantern (building), UW Control (building)
RIP Magic Duels. Wizards will regret what they did to you.
Like Deathmist Raptor and many other cards that came before it, this is strong in standard and garbage in Modern. There isn't a deck out there that wants to pay 2 mana for a rock that sits there doing nothing for a turn, and then needs at least one other creature in play to become a 3/3 flier the next turn. Its just way too many hoops to jump through for a 3/3 flier in a world where Delver of Secrets exists. If its the looting effect you're after, there are plenty of cards with much less conditional looting effects.
In a world where Tarmogoyf exists in the 2 drop slot, its hard to imagine wanting to pay 2 for Copter instead. It might see some fringe play, but even in the deck it has the most synergy with (Affinity) it's competing at the 2 drop slot with Steel Overseer, Arcbound Ravager, and Cranial Plating, which makes me think it's chances of seeing play aren't too high.
In the tokens build you suggested, or with the Thoptersword combo, it also doesn't feel like it works. Your "goldfish" of Turn 2 Copter into turn 3 Souls and swing with Copter is countered by say, Infect's response of Turn 2 Blighted Agent Turn 3 Become Immense + Mutagenic Growth + Apostles Blessing. Or Suicide Zoo's Turn 2 Death's Shadow into Turn 3 Temur Battle Rage.
So the response to that is, well its not meant to be played on the curve, its meant for a midrange deck and to be played later in the game where the looting is more helpful. To which I say, great. Name a midrange deck that would rather a 2 mana nothing-for-1-turn that becomes a 3/3 flying looter over any of the other options at the 2 drop slot like Tarmogoyf, Dark Confidant, Grim Flayer, Voice of Resurgence, Tidehollow Sculler, Qasali Pridemage, etc.
If it didn't have the crew part, and was just a 3/3 flier for 2 with looting on its attack then yes, it would see play. The crew effect is a big ole anchor on it's powerlevel, as you don't just need a creature out to give it legs, you need to tap that creature during your turn. The best decks for this type of effect are definitely decks with lots of creatures to spare like token decks. The thing is, I can't picture a token deck prefering Smugglers Copter to Honor of the Pure in the 2 drop slot, or something similar.

Hmm, I don't play Standard so no idea what decks there use the copter..but it must be a lot of decks because the price of the copter is still rising. On our facebook group, for price comparison.. a khans fetch land costs around 500-700 pesos, a copter costs 400-800. That's what I've seen so far.
Maybe someday this vehicle would find a home in Modern.
Standard lacks the appropriate tools to really combat the coppter and its filled with creatures and lacks any real interaction with it beside outright killing it with instant speed removal.
----
Modern has way too good answers to the coppter and you spend 2 mana for something that might not do anything at all for some time, and even if it hits, the value is not really worth it in modern, as you combat much stronger cards and much stronger hate.
this is 100% correct all around. just to much removal for it to do much work. Might find a home in sideboards to help in top deck wars, getting value off of summoning sick creatures and forcing the opponent to either kill the threat you played and activated it with or kill the Copter.
Can it be good in a white weenie build (with Toolcraft Exemplar/Ardent Recruit/Signal Pest and various 2/1 1-drops)
for the evasion/reach to deal the last points of damage when the opponent has stabilized on the ground with blockers ?
As far as fringe tribal goes, Copter should be a nice addition to my tier 6-7 elemental build
It has great synergy with the weaker enablers of the tribe: Flamekin Harbinger: Normally a miserable 1/1 for 1, this gives the Harbinger additional utility after tutoring. It also works nicely in that you can drop the Harbinger, immediately use it to crew Copter, swing and loot the tutored card into hand. Smokebraider: More utility for this card when it's summoning sick or not ramping. Fulminator Mage: Drop this guy, crew up then nuke a land. Voice of Resurgence: Guarantee an elemental token if the opponent wants to kill Copter with instant speed creature removal.
And it has great synergy with all the evoke cards! Cast Shriekmaw or Mulldrifter for the evoke cost, and use it to crew the copter in the instant between when it ETBs and dies.
Perhaps the copter is what elemental tribal needs to bump up to tier 5.

Stuff like Kolaghan's Command completly destroy any coppter strategy, and answers like Lightning Bolt, Abrupt Decay, also pray on it.
Its good against planeswalkers, but in the end, its not really worth it for modern.

In standard however, you need a good reason to "not" play 4 coppters.
