Crucible of Worlds on a stick... Don't think it will se play in Modern, but it is a fringe possibility.
Abrade. Modal spells are always nice, and an instant, but not able to go to the face. Possible sideboard for Burn, to deal with both creatures and Chalice of the Void... but I seriously doubt it as the right power level.
You may play land cards from your graveyard.

Hey guys, so Ramunap Excavator just got spoiled. A crucible of worlds on a stick (Should have been Magus of the Crucible grumble grumble). Any ideas if/where this goes in modern? I know there was a GW LD deck by Todd Stevens a few months ago, could be good to chord into with KotR to grab ghost quarter...any ideas?
EDH:ShatterStax, Only The Strong Survive
Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir Mono-U Control
Ob Nixilis of the Black Oath
Sen Triplets
Mizzix of the Izmagnus
Derevi Stax
VolThrun
Marchesa, The Black Rose
Olivia Voldaren, Vampire Tribal
I'm guessing it allows you to play land cards from your graveyard and has a power and toughness and creature type? Posting the text of the card would help discussion as I have literally no other idea about this card.
Excavator will most certainly see play. A strict upgrade to Crucible of Worlds in that GW Company deck Todd Stevens played a few months ago.
Or combine with Azusa (which can also be hit off of company) and you can lock someone out of the game with ghost quarters
That last option actually seems hilarious. Don't really think it has legs but hell, eot Coco finding both pieces and then just go Ghost Quarter, Ghost Quarter, Ghost Quarter (ad some Leonin Arbiter for even better results).
Now that sounds like fun!
Great time to speculate, since the lone card we know it's on didn't reveal anything else but it costing 3WW on a 1/1 with Double Strike for 1W!
I suspect we can activate it from the graveyard and it'll move the card to another zone (and possibly make a funky token copy of it with some parts adjusted).
Beyond that, does it grant Indestructible? Give it "Creatures you control have..."? Make it put -1/-1 counters on opposing things? I don't know!
Abrade is the first card in a while I'm like "Oh. that might see play"
I mean... its a lightning spear or its a destroy artifact. Is that good enough to have in RDW? probably. Slots are tight, but it really messes with certain strats.
EDIT: Says creature not player. never mind. Its ight, not good.
Abrade could be a sideboard option if you want to be able to bring in more removal in some matchups and artifact destruction in another. I have no idea what decks might need to fix their matchups that way. It's relevant for the liquimetal coating decks since it can be removal before the deck can find coating.

My guess, and I have seen other guess the same, is that it is essentially embalm but with a "except that it gains indestructible" text added on.

Probably right. We didn't get ANY good embalm critters so maybe this Eternalize will give us something playable. The nice thing about Embalm was that it was discard and counterspell proof, but it didn't come on any critter we actually wanted to hit the table so the point was moot.
Ramunap Excavator seems merely ok. The main draw to it is that it's a creature, so in addition to being Chord/Callable, you can Vial it in, and it doesn't get taxed by Thalia.
How does it compare to what you can already do in Modern?
1) if you don't care about the creature type, you already have Life from the Loam and Crucible of Worlds. In fact the decks that currently play Crucible+GQ are Eldrazi Tron and UW, and neither of them can/want to play a green creature.
2) D&T or Hatebears seems like an obvious choice for Excavator given that they already play GQ. Obviously the mono-white and Eldrazi versions can't play it. A quick search on mtgtop8 shows that the GW versions play 2 Eternal Witness. That's probably the creature that you would cut, but would you really rather have Excavator over Witness, given that Witness gives you the land immediately, and can bring back dead guys if you need to beat down?
Abrade is good in Standard but bad in Modern. I would have preferred if it was "choose one or both" like Branching Bolt .
Abrade seems like a confused card for Modern. What decks would have an artifact that Red cared about but also was running creatures that die to Bolt? Affinity maybe but red has way better cards to use for that match, like Ancient Grudge.
Nope, Smash to Smithereens deals with artifacts already. A red spell that deals damage only to creatures is somewhat paradoxical in red decks, right ? Midrange decks are ready to pay 1RB for Kommand and aggro decks usually splash green or white for artifact hate, and white or black for good creature removal.
The black wrath is good at what it's supposed to do, period. It will see play at least as much as Kozilek's Return or Flaying Tendrils, i.e. a niche wrath effect that a bunch of good decks need to improve their 75. All these wraths have drawbacks but do the job anyway. I see no point arguing about Reckoning's playability in the format.

I actually think Ramunap Excavator will see play in G/R Ponza decks. You can lock out so many people with land destruction it's not even funny. I guess it's nice the Wizards wants us to play more basics now. But that doesn't help with Ghost Quarter blowing up any and all lands.

A significant pro to Ramunap Excavator is that you can Collected Company it in. I swear I saw a GW CoCo deck once with Crucible of Worlds and a tournament result, and Ramunap looks a lot more appropriate for that deck.

Todd Stevens got 5th at SCG open at Dallas Fort Worth in mid march and may be what you are thinking of. He ran Crucible, Ghost Quarter and Azusa, Lost but Seeking.
Is that deck playable now? It was before Vizier, so it seems like the next step would be to cut the GQs and one-of Azusa and Crucible for the Vizier combo pieces, like the 34th place deck here. Not cut the Crucible for Excavator. Stevens also mentions that he built the deck because he was in a brewing mood. I haven't seen it anywhere else, which points towards it being a one-off thing.

Not to be pedantic, but the deck is certainly playable- no cards have been banned from it. I doubt it's a good choice in the current meta, though. The strategy seems too slow. It might be more functional if you used a list built to abuse the lock, with Ensnaring Bridge and Chalice of the Void.
Magus of the Crucible seems like a good sideboard card against DnT for Sultai Toolbox decks with Traverse, which have previously been a problem IMO. CoCo probably doesn't care enough about GC or discard enough lands to make it worth a slot in the 75. Some of the Gx ramp decks might want this card in the sideboard as well.
I'm not really sure what to make of the cat, but Eternalize strikes me as a Limited mechanic from the pricing. I suspect that it will basically be Super-Embalm, and not have much impact on any constructed format.
Hopefully Afflict creatures aren't all like Wildfire Eternal, designed to give an opponent a choice. We get these cards frequently and there are always people who claim these punisher cards are good (see Sin Prodder) who are always very disappointed when opponent's-choice yet again proves to suck. False choice cards like Gifts are fine, but stuff like Wildfire doesn't cut it.
