i saw this curse list for legacy and I like it but I never get to play legacy. Its strategy is to use one of the big amonkhet curses to lock down an opponent and win. the curses selected can do must the same modern decks.
So I'm wonder what needs to be adjusted in this list to make it modern viable?
1. the heart of the deck is academy rector so naturally what makes it possible in modern is bitterheart witch
2. we don't have veteran explorer but maybe sakura-tribe elder or Viridian Emissary can compensate.
3. we have no cabal therapy so we need something that can stay on the field and kill a top decked bitterheart witch, I've pick liliana of the veil for that. plus she can win games on her own.
4. we have no green sun's zenith, this might seem like a strange choice, but garruk relentless kind of fits into that slot as well as the original token strategy of the deck. His ultimate will never get used, but on the front and back he can kill bitterheart witch. his tokens feed evolutionary leap. plus the back side he is a creature tutor, which is relevant to the strategy and this particular slot. this slot could also be used by primeval command or traverse the ulvenwald
5. Sidisi, Undead Vizier my choice for replacing the random diabolic intent. theres no modern replacement for diabolic intent, but we can try. plus he's a demonic tutor effect on a creature, evolutionary leap can get him. its a long winded chain of tutoring, but might be relevant.
6. night's whisper something to replace sylvan library with.
7. evolutionary leap kind of a heart of the decks engine to search up creatures like bitterheart witch and kill bitterheart witch, as well as original explorers for land ramp. seems very relevant, so I upped it from 3 to 4. also with more token makers in the deck it gets more relevant. Its also the reason for Dryad arbor, arbor would be fetched off green suns' in legacy, but in modern we can still get her off of a fetch and then pitch her to evolutionary leap.
8. the original deck has pernicious deed, we don't have that so, I went with Maelstrom pulse, maybe that should be something else?
9. the deck might need a couple tweaks to make dovescape manageable. if your solely dependent on it to lock an opponent down with it, then you need something to manage all the tokens a combo player can spam with it, especially if curse of death's hold isn't on the field yet. wierd cards such as Necroplasm or Minister of Pain become relevant to the decks design. Also dovescape can't be tutored up, but we do have Curse of Exhaustion and curse of echoes which might replace it altogether for those match ups where dovescape is suppose to be the silver bullet. with the added threat of liliana of the veil might not even need dovescape in the modern version.
this is what I've theorized a port might look like so far.
