I'm a fairly new player (1 year) and my favorite thing to do in modern is brew, however, I also want to win at a FNM to GP level. So what are some good decks for about $250 that are fun/complicated to play? I love complicated strategies because I used to play paradox storm in standard, and it was HILARIOUS.
Anyways, shoot decks at me.
Thx, I am not a fan of devotion, and definantly not of white. however, hatebears and rites would sound fun. Tried ponza. Pyromancer i feel would be too much. Knightfall sounds awesome, and I used to have a elf deck.
And since damping sphere is coming, i dont feel like tron will last me long. BTW my meta is very control heavy, mostly jeskai, mono blue end, and some mardu and shadow.

What decks will play it against Tron that don't get hurt by it as well?
Anyway, Tron is here to stay. That card probably won't even see much play. Tron is pretty good vs. Jeskai too, Mono Blue End, and Mardu. Shadow is probably slightly unfavored.

You can accomplish a lot for $250 if you are willing to skimp on the manabase. You could build mono red goblins a/k/a 8whack for like $150. It's super fast and you only need mountains. Mono red burn is the same way. Bogles you could try if you are willing to make a manabase with just plains, forests and maybe some sunpetal groves. You give up consistency, but if you like the idea of swinging with a 10/8 lifelinking trampling frog you could have some hilarious games. with burn and bogles the nice part is you are playing suboptimal versions of very good decks, so if you like playing with them you can gradually add pieces over time to make them reach their tier 1/2 status.
I'd also say that there's a big gap between the FNM and GP level if you are referring to a main event. GP's have tons of modern side events though where you can just play 3-4 rounds against people who are competitive without the tension of having that much money on the line. Just a tip from my own first GP experience.

It's not a frog. It's a BEAST. BEAST MODE!!! Slippery Bogle.
(I think I found out it's creature type after a year playing the deck.)

Sounds ******* crazy I know. Just Urza lands, 4 Eldrazi Temple, 8 Island and 1 Urborg. Add in all the good Eldrazi you want. I rock 4 Matter Reshaper, 4 Thought Knot, 3 Conduit of Ruin, 1 Wurmcoil Engine, 2 Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger, 3 Eldrazi Skyspawner. Add in some Dismembers, Remands, Azcantas, Maps, maybe some Condescend/Repeal action or Basilisk Collar.
SB gives you some nuts ***** like 4 Spreading Seas, 3 Ratchet Bomb, various counterspells and some number of Field of Ruin/Tomb of the Spirit Dragon. Not a lot of grave decks in my meta cut hella stuff like Relic or Cage could suit you.
Try a kiki chord deck it's a value based midrange deck with the ability to tutor out silver bullets or a combo win. It has a really good feel to it and is mainly in the Naya colors occasionally splashing for blue or black for a few SB or MB options. Due to the wide variaty of creatures it can play on multiple angles and have explosive starts. The deck is decently cheap deck though the core cards are necessary and after that it's imho fill to meta or personal flavor. It can be tuned for any meta and is a fun to play against and with in my exp. With the recent printing of Abrade in standard we also have an out to a few of the hate cards we have in the meta like Grafdigger's Cage and Aven Mindcensor. Other then your landbase, 3-4 Voice of Resurgence, 4 Chord of Calling, 2 Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker, 2 Spellskite, 2-4 Eternal Witness, 4 Path to Exile, and 4 Birds of Paradise the deck takes a dramatic decrease in price due to reprinting's. Once you have this manabase the ability to play Naya Zoo also becomes a possibility.

Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build)(dead format for me)Happy that it counters some of my meta too, but im still not feeling it. PS, most of the cards in tron are fairly expensive.
Sadly, thats not how it plays out.
