This is a place for all talk about the GP! If you're at the event or following along at home, discuss it here.
Also note that there is another GP going on right now, Grand Prix Sydney who's format is Team Unified Modern. There is no stream of that event but you can follow the text coverage here.

I was hoping to go myself but life has gotten in the way once again and there was no chance if me making the trip. We've seen a few high level events now since the last round of unbannigs and the format is as wide open as ever. Hoping for another diverse metagame.
EDIT: GP is live and no thread activity. I guess we hate modern now :|
I guess I'll start off some talking points. Round 1 is RG Vengevine vs Humans. Pizzap will be happy to see his RG list that he had success with getting some coverage since everyone else seems to be on RB.
An good to note an interesting point from coverage, Hollow One is hollow and therefor fragile and weak. You'd think he should be a 1/1 or 0/0 then, not a 4/4. This should be eratta'd asap.
Guys please opinions on japanese cards. Lost a 3/3 creature against Japan celestial colonade. This guy played all creatures and spells in english cards, but some cards in his manabase was japanese. I dont registrated this really ( my brain say its all fine and all english to me lets attack his empty board)...and i am sure it is a Kind of legal cheating. It is not ok, but i know legal. I Hate such people. I never forget colonade normally, but with this Tricks it can happen one time in 3 years and such people take advantage of this
If I am a customer spending premium amount of dollars, I expect a premium service. Jund falls into the category of a premium deck costing more dollars than a majority of the rest of the format. I'm not getting the desired performance ratio per dollars spent out of the Jund deck because WOTC decided to make the format more diverse.
Looks like Hollow one decks are splashing white for maindeck Lingering Souls now, so even harder to grind them... Nice interaction with looting, Burning Inquiry etc.
Just turned on to see Reid Duke get wrecked game 1 against Storm with an active Scooze. Let's see what happens game 2!
That Storm player is Paul Muller. He is a very good Storm player and between him and Caleb Sherer, they have a pretty strong Storm community that regularly discusses strategy. I know because my friend is also in that community and he says that Caleb and Paul is his inspiration. He has moved on to UW Turns because the meta is pretty hostile to Storm, but it looks like really strong players can still get (slightly) more things done than weaker players. Paul is certainly the former.
My friend had a rough time in his first GP. But his friend on Martyr Proc is at 3-1 right now, despite a lot of misplays, according to my friend. Foiled out Martyr Proc...

low key hoping hollow one blows up so it gets the axe. yeah im a bad person.
still a fan of mardu pyromancer, so i hope it does well. a buddy let me pilot the deck in a few casual events and its super fun to play with, and is interesting to play against as well.
i predict jund will have a poor showing, but its still packed with power so it can only do so bad.

I liked the UWR deck, I've been playing something similar lately. It's been decent.
I noticed a maindeck Grim Lavamancer. Should be golden against Humans. Adding 2 damage to bolt and kill Gurmag Angler, Hollow One etc. doesn't hurt either.

I saw that, I think I would prefer Electrolyze though. As near as I could tell though, he was running a split which is also perfectly reasonable.
Interesting, and not at all surprising day 2 numbers.
I'm definitely curious about the discrepancies between Jeskai and Blue Moon builds, and whether or not all Shadow decks were combined too (their time walk match labeled Traverse Shadow as Grixis, for example).
Honestly I think at this point I'm cheering for something like RG Titanshift...
The day 2 breakdown just came up. I didn't get a chance to screenshot it, but the top 8 decks are somewhat interesting. Affinity, Hollow One, Humans, Jund, Pyromancer, Burn, UWR Control, and one other I'm not remembering. That's midrange, control, and aggro all doing well which it's hard to complain about.

Oh don't worry, this forum will find a way to complain.
Affinity doing real well, I called it in the state of modern thread that this meta was cycling away from artifact hate and could allow affinity to put a strong showing.
Watch coverage for the event is over at Magic's Twitch page.
Follow the events text coverage over on the Mothership.

TBF there's not much going on in the early rounds that's worthy of discussion.
Unfortunate that Jund lost to Hollow One even with all the hate. He just wasn't able to stick a threat on the board.
Edit: Was it 65 different archetypes I heard the lady say?

Its like Dredge's buddy vs 'Disruptive Creatures that btw are uncounterable', just terrible.

2 Mardu Pyromancer
1 Hollow One
