Another crazy Modern weekend is here! 2 GP, one Open, one thread to discuss it all. Quoting some information from the very well-formatted Reddit thread. Remember the time differences for events across the globe, so you can see results/action at different times than others.
I'm expecting we see similar diversity to that showcased at previous GP and major MTGO events, with frontrunners to include Humans, UW Control, KCI, Hardened Scales, Gx Tron, Jeskai Control, Jund, Infect, Mardu, H1, Titanshift, and others.
still havent been able to watch any of the scg coverage (thank god for VODs), but UW certainly showed up a lot on camera on day 1 stockholm. it'll be interesting to see if its able to convert the popularity into a proportional amount of finishes. at this point the honeymoon for UW is basically over, so we will see if and how people will attack it in earnest.
my guess is that the rise of two decks (uw, spirits) that run multiple copies of stony silence in the side is what is keeping artifact decks in check.
im actually looking forward to the hong kong results the most. the asian (predominantly japanese) scene always produces slightly different stuff; both in deck building philosophy and meta.

Results are out for HK.
- Tron wins. WOW
- Bridgevine takes 2nd (1st after Swiss) and gets its first GP T8. 18 lands, splashing green, only 4 XXs, Collective Brutality main.
- Jund with Grim Flayer instead of Dark Confidant T8s.
- Jeskai aggro with Figure of Destiny T8s.
- Jeskai control (really just UW with Bolts and Helixes) T8s.
- 8 Whack with The Flame of Keld T16s.
- Lots of Humans (5) in T16.
Btw. I really like the reasoning why he played Jeskai Ascendency, cause it has a great UW Control match-up. MD a ton of cards are rather dead for the UW player and post board they are usually weak against a Mentor/Pyromancer plan.

Kathal

Hope to catch some of SCG later.
I am starting to worry about UW/UWR and Humans/Spirits as 2 archetypes possibly pushing things out.

Didn't realise there's actually a name for it. I thought someone was short on money and rummaged through the dollar bin for a deck.
