It’s pretty funny when your bad beat story is “my opponent’s deck did what it was designed to do…”
This is why people hate Tron lol
As someone who plays a deck that should wreck infect and recently lost to infect games 1 and 3 (on turns 2 and 3), I think it's entirely reasonable to have this view.
Why do/did people consider Infect 'dead'? Its a ridiculous deck, where if you kept a hand without removal, you could simply DIE within 2 Turns. Just like that article says, you may take a break, you may play something else, but those decks that used to hide on the fringes are still there, and still have fans, and still can win.
Speaking of Burn, i think Risk Factor might be really powerful
That is a point currently in MAJOR contention on the burn thread lol.
I don't see why. If you need 4 damage, play Flames of the Bloodhand instead. Card-draw is nice for a deck where every card should be 3 dmg, but the choice is still an issue. There are other 4 dmg spells that don't give your opponent a choice and they don't see play.

Yes, saw that and surprised at how aggressive some people are pushing the card. Anyway, it's a 5$ card now.. will probably go higher as more people join the hype.
I'm not entirely sure that wizards cares much about modifying the ban list. Right now they are experimenting with new ways to distribute cards, are possibly introducing a completely new format in digital form with MtG Arena, and are seeking to find some way to get the player base to grow again. As a point of reference Pokemon is dropping significantly in player participation, the Final Fantasy TCG is dying out, I have no idea what is going on with the Age of Sigmar Champions game, and Force of Will is going through a moderate resurgence thanks to them actually fixing the game.
Oh man...CFB article yesterday by Brian DeMars highlighted how popular and successful burn has been lately. I don't like my deck having a target on its back lol. It makes sense though. Humans is 40/60 at worst, Tron is a good matchup, and UW is basically a coinflip while UW also holds off worse matchups like hollow one. Toss in that people really seem to be trying to bring back Infect and I like what I see.
Some other thoughts from the article:
- yes, spirits decks are getting very popular. It was probably the most represented deck at my last pptq. It trades a little bit of disruption compared to humans and a more painful manabase for crazy CoCo plays and instant speed creatures. I'd play it if Hierarchs weren't worth a new tire.
- Tron dips from 7% metashare to 4% means its dead...yeah I don't think Tron is dead. Still solid against humans and UW though no longer quite overwhelming in the case of the latter. I understand that trophy will help BGx decks, but the reality is there have always been land destruction options for them like fulminator mage. The problem isn't disruption, its the lack of a clock. Tron still just gets to 7-8 mana and can topdeck bombs.
I prefer playing pure blue and white with spirits rather than use Coco. Ever since Supreme Phantom got released I've been using Spectral Procession and completely axed black from the list. My beef with calling that bant spirits deck a spirits deck is that it is a deck that only plays spirits out of coincidence. It's really just bant collected company with a tweaked flavor. Spirits in it's proper form is a tempo deck that plays off Aether Vial.
I mean, seriously that stupid include of a Noble Hierarch forces the most convoluted mana base known to mankind just to manage getting that turn one green source. Even just including the Coco makes things a nightmare.
1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!

The card having Jump Start is the real reason the card might be busted
@colt
That manabase looks at the very least, pretty par for modern. I wouldn't call it a bad one. It probably helps if you group all the fetches/fastlands together and start to see the overall balance. I do wonder a little about running more cavern of souls but it's no biggy. Collected company is a hell of a card and worth the investment. I saw bant spirits lists crushing all throughout this last pptq season and I can imagine their manabases were all somewhere around the ballpark of the one you quoted above.
That said, as a purist I'd probably end up choosing to play the straight UW version. But that's more of a personal slant and not related to which one's actually performing the best right now.

Modern: G Tron, Vannifar, Jund, Druid/Vizier combo, Humans, Eldrazi Stompy (Serum Powder), Amulet, Grishoalbrand, Breach Titan, Turns, Eternal Command, As Foretold Living End, Elves, Cheerios, RUG Scapeshift
Question though (might be more appropriate in the spirit thread, but since we're on the subject): would you run CoCo in a Noble-less list? I can't justify dropping 400cnd$ on hierarch, and I've not yet decided if the dig + CA of CoCo is enough to splash green.
I don't think so, if you mean spirits in particular. I'm still working on sourcing Nobles in paper as well, it's like half the value of knightfall lol.
Yeah, the number of $75+ cards in modern at the moment is genuinely disgusting. Vendors are probably hugging WOTC though...nicest way to say that.
It is gross. Even going down to like $30+ dollar sideboard cards, forget about the idiocy that is Engineered Explosives, an original print Horizon Canopy is near $100 USD.

The short answer is maybe, as it depends on a few other things. If you already have all of the green cards (lands plus CoCo), I’d probably go ahead and run the green splash replacing the Heirarchs with birds. Otherwise, it’s a meta call, since straight UW spirits is faster, but has more issues running out of gas than Bant does.
One of the best things Bant Spirits has going for it, is the ability to turn 2 Geist of Saint Traft against UW Control. You could accomplish this with birds but the exalted is also extra insurance for snapcaster mage in ambush viper mode.
Guys please opinions on japanese cards. Lost a 3/3 creature against Japan celestial colonade. This guy played all creatures and spells in english cards, but some cards in his manabase was japanese. I dont registrated this really ( my brain say its all fine and all english to me lets attack his empty board)...and i am sure it is a Kind of legal cheating. It is not ok, but i know legal. I Hate such people. I never forget colonade normally, but with this Tricks it can happen one time in 3 years and such people take advantage of this
If I am a customer spending premium amount of dollars, I expect a premium service. Jund falls into the category of a premium deck costing more dollars than a majority of the rest of the format. I'm not getting the desired performance ratio per dollars spent out of the Jund deck because WOTC decided to make the format more diverse.

It was late at night when I did that post. I hate MTG goldfish lists sometimes as it makes it look way more confusing than it really is. My only problem with the mana base is that I think Cavern of Souls should be a two of and not a one of. Counter magic isn't at the level that legacy is at, but unless we get a way to fetch a non-basic land I'm really hesitant to cut the caverns or go down to a single one.

It's not "busted" and I'd put good money on that staying the case. I would understand if someone said that Jump Start is the real reason it might be "playable" but I would still disagree. For every time that the card you discard is a land you don't need, there will be 2 times that the only card(s) available for discard is/are other spells. So you're trading a guaranteed 3 damage for either 4 damage or cards, whichever hurts your opponent the least.

Look at this mana base...
2 Botanical Sanctum
1 Breeding Pool
1 Cavern of Souls
2 Flooded Strand
1 Forest
1 Hallowed Fountain
3 Horizon Canopy
1 Island
3 Misty Rainforest
1 Moorland Haunt
1 Plains
1 Seachrome Coast
