Phoenix decks are really neat. They don't get shut down quite as hard by graveyard hate as dredge does, which is probably why they succeeded this weekend.
Rest in Peace? Leyline? That's fine I'll just beat you down with Swiftspears, Things in the Ice, hardcast Phoenixes, or just burn you out. Oh and Crackling Drake out of Merriam's list was genius
Its easily my favorite card in years. I like it more than Thing really, because you are rewarded for just chaining spells, or, a hasty 3 damage.
Phoenix really seems to have broken out this tournament. Does anyone have a link to Merriam's list/the full decklists of the top 8? Also, I was wondering whether there is a forum here for the U/R archetype yet, as it would be great to get some discussions going about the deck.

Its CMC at 4 (though push is less played than it used to be).
Its counting exile. (As MaRo use to say, if you start treating exile as another GY, we all lose out. Now we need to *shuffle* the GY?)
Add to it that it draws you a card if it resolves... fortunately, its mana cost is a bit unwieldy, but not even much given fetches. It not OP, but just piles multiple annoying bits. If someone builds a pact of negation + temur battle rage version, then I will rage quit.
If you can't reply without being dismissive, that's on you, not the OP.
My final comment was tongue in cheek, but crackling is the final boos of the deck. It runs 18 lands, so it's not like the drake drops turn 4. It's just a creature that one-shot people if they happen to not have removal. The whole deck is built to exhaust the opponent with hasty early drops, some of which recur from the GY using the same synergistic setup the drake requires. The fact that it replaces itself is relevant. My main beef with it is the fact that counts cards in exile. It's yet another stupid idea that makes the exile zone less relevant.
It is an incredibly fair card that has to be cast for a difficult price and has upside if it resolves and lives. That is completely reasonable within the context of Modern.

Its kind of what we should be hoping out of Uncommon's. A very playable card. It being bolt proof is quite fine. Terminate, Trophy, things of that nature, or do as we do in Standard and Lava Coil. lol

I agree that the exile zone should be the exile zone. Mostly just because it's incredibly silly: are we gonna get a card that exiles the exiled? As someone who loves decks that use the graveyard, it's nice to answer hate with hate.
Having two Arclight decks in the finals wasn't a function of broken synergies though. It was a function of two players who really understood the mechanics of their deck. Carr and Merriam played extremely tight to get through the control decks (for example). This wasn't Eggs, Hypergenesis, or Dark Depths just picking up wins with busted interactions. They were well piloted efforts using new, fun, and strong cards.
Chill guys. It's one card in Modern. Not to mention, it's a card that I've yet to see (how I wish I saw a Crackling Drake, lol). That's the least of a Combo player's worries.

I wouldnt worry about a Pact/Temur version, you are saying essentially. It works because its late game (yep, Modern) gas, when you've already consumed the rest of the resources.
yeah itll be interesting to see if the deck can move away from being so burn heavy or if its confined to that space. not that it isnt good, but with a card as deep as arclight is in terms of brewing space i get the feeling we are still on 'level 1'. maybe im just optimistic.

Tough to say. With the blistering speed that can be required, it's almost an incidental card. Its not even like Vengevine, because it requires THREE spells, and the longer the game runs, the odds increase that you will be disrupted.
I've played it to death in Arena (UR), and in a burn leaning Runaway build, and its not even the focus, its just part of the deal, if that makes sense?

Remove any of those and the card would likely be unplayable.

I agree. Even with a less restrictive and cheaper casting cost.
