This deck has 8 cards that have special effects in your opening hand and another 8 suspend 3s which can be found with Stirrings. The Moxen help keep your land count low for Belcher. Usually Lotus Bloom is better than Mox Tantalite in combo decks since you only need the mana for one turn, but this deck can hardcast Chancellors and Wurmcoil Engines as plan B, so reusable mana from Mox is fine too.
"Hexdrinker" is a 2/1 for G, Level Up for 1, is a 4/4 with Protection from instants at Levels 3-7, and is a 6/6 with Protection from everything at Levels 8 and up. It dies to removal but certainly strains removal suites, although LOL Teferi, Time Raveler hurts it quite a bit before Level 8. Especially with new toys that can tutor for it like Ranger-Captain of Eos, might it see play?
For hilarity's sake, King of the Pride is a 2/1 Cat lord for 2W that pumps +2/+1.
We are discussing Hex Drinker on mono G Stompy thread. And so far it has been received positively for testing. Rancor can still pump it even if gainst protection from instants.
KotP, nostalgic flavor text. And going straight into my stray cat deck.

Winds of Abandon is one of those cards that people dismiss too quickly. How many removal spells moonlight as a partial win condition? It's not even a difficult deck-building challenge - get creatures on the board.
Even the standard mode - it's not so much that 2 cmc removal is unplayable - it's just that PtE is a very pushed removal card.
I honestly can't see why people are bitter. This set really is great from several points of view.
We not even half way through the spoilers and we already have some definitely playable or even very powerful cards for modern.
The set is SUPER flavorful, and it definitely creates a feeling of continuity for older players who might have felt left our recently.
The set has powerful cards for other formats as well (i.e. commander and cube)
We are getting art cards as a nice extra, which is an awesome change from stupid ad. cards.
It feels like unless there is THE specific card that some people want, there is no way that they will be satisfied. I also would love to see Coutnerspell, but it's not in there. What can you do? Does that make the entire set suck? How is this even a valid argument?
People are complaining about Diabolic Edict because we now have a different one, but still that doesn't make it a wasted reprint. It still is an awesome card. Heck, we are even getting a new Mox and people just dismiss it for no reason. As Kt said already, just give it some time. If WAR should us anything is that cards can completely surprise us.
Path of God better not steal the Swords to Plowshares throwback/reprint in the set. I don't think it will because it's clearly more of a Wrath/Path homage than Swords, and white still needs some instant-speed spot removal. The Swords throwback has potential to be one of the best cards in the set, if done right.
I am also excited for the throwbacks (reprints??) on Daze, Wasteland, and Brainstorm. Daze is probably reprintable without modification, and would be a big boon to various species of tempo blue decks. Wasteland is probably not reprintable, but I could see a Wasteland that only hits nonbasics without basic land types. This would benefit Modern while not creating 8Wasteland Legacy situations unless you're facing poor Lands. As for Brainstorm, I still have hopes for "draw 2, top 1" at instant speed on a CMC 1 or 2 card, either of which would be playable AS AN INSTANT. Sorcery draw 2 top 1 is also probably playable at 1 CMC.
I am waiting to see what Defensive Slivers are still here. I am exciting for the Flying Haste sliver we just got, so I am still hyped for this set. I am still hoping for Crystalline Sliver/Hibernation Sliver or functional reprints with things like Hexproof. We could still get provoke with Hunter Sliver.
We still haven't seen any real Elf tribal stuff yet and that should be coming hopefully next week.
I wonder if we are getting a majority of new cards the first week and reprints the second week.
Wotc's design template & notes for MH were leaked...
15% Pre-8th ed reprints [make sure none will noticeably impact the format]
5% Snow permanents
15% Draft chaff
15% Cards that will probably make an immediate impact [remember: no reprints]
25% Imitations of cards we should just reprint, but won't
[Easier to just think of everything like: Magus of the [insert either name of card that should've been reprinted, iconic spell, bears]*
25% Whatever ***** you want in EDH [Go nuts. Bonus points for anything bear-related]
*Try to make these so they serve the same purpose as the card they imitate, however, no biggie if they don't. It's not like we're marketing this thing as a Modern set or anthi...wait, what?

I am in the same boat. I would love to see a Daze or Brainstorm variant. Would a "mini brainstorm" like draw two cards and top one at instant speed with a mana cost of UR or even UU be too good? I don't think so. I would love to see that card. I actually tested daze for a little bit after the announcement in my deck (jeskai delver) and it was not even close to being too good. We didn't have the Force cycle at that point so I'm not sure if both existing would be too much, but I Daze on it's own seems fine.
I think the set so far has been extremely good for many players and I have no complaints. With that said, it is called MODERN horizons so I would like to see more cards that actually affect current modern decks by the end of the spoiler season. I will save any complaints until that point. I do think there have been several really well designed cards that will have an impact on existing decks(the force cycle, Giver or Runes, pyromancer, mox tantilite, and the lands). I also think there are cards that help push low tier decks (lands, cabal therapist, goblins, slivers, nimble mongoose, goblin engineer) and cards that feel like they could make new decks (Urza, Wrenn and Six). All in all it has been a very interesting and fun set.
With all of that said, WOTC did make it feel like they were trying to help "fix" or smooth out some of modern's problems so I would like to see just a few more midrange and/or tempo style cards for modern (a brainstorm variant, possibly innocent blood, daze, a early threat akin to delver, etc) and I would also like to see a couple of mythics that slot into midrange or tempo style decks. I think those things would help modern the most. There is still plenty of the set to go so I have my fingers crossed. So far I think the set has really been a hit and it is too early to complain, but if the set is fully spoiled with only a very small percentage of cards affecting modern, it will be justified for people to be upset.
No idea how to rate Wrenn and Six, you could tell me it's utterly broken or draft chaff and I'd believe both. Retracing any spell is pretty nuts if you can get there.
Sling-Gang Leutenant seems like if there is a goblin deck, that one's in it. Turn 4 swing with the team, play sling-gang and yeet all your goblins at them seems like a good finisher card similar to Shaman of the Pack

I think Wrenn and Six is a Land Destruction card. It improves on Crucible in multiple ways and goes nicely with Boom//Bust, and the emblem allows you to recycle land destruction.
I won't say it'll be a good deck but I think the skeleton is shaping up. I wonder if a Naya version is possible to take advantage of Flagstones and other white goodies?
Titanshift just got a better Wood Elves. Gets counters on Khalni Heart Expedition faster and is two Bolts when topdecked while Valakut has enough mountains. Unlike Harrow, it isn't an instant, but it gives you a spare 1/1 and isn't stunningly weak to counters.
edit: the lands are tapped. That makes it a bit worse.
If you have little teferi there's a lot of potentially busted things you can do enabling stuff like martial coup, some of the finales etc.
I was inspired from mtg arena and spamming finale of glory on t6 for 10 angels 10 soldiers originally but never got around to testing some of this stuff against people in modern. Also logic knot with this card, blue sun's, any banefire style.
I love these style of ramp control decks so I'm definitely going to play around with it.
Battle Screech got reprinted. Might BW Tokens want it as a way to swarm the board?
Farmstead Gleaner gets infinite +1/+1 counters with Grand Architect, but given the ungodly number of blockers and removal in Modern, this might not be good enough...
Wrenn and Six is kinda giving me Liliana, the Last Hope vibes, complete with pinging X/1's. If Deathrite Shaman taught me anything, it's that there's a fetchland in my graveyard consistently enough by Turn 2 if I run 8 of them, but how good is hitting all your land drops for the first 5+ turns of the game really? The more nuts things to do involve LD lands, cycling lands, and cantrip lands. The ult is pretty sweet, though.
