2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
Birds of Paradise and Noble Hierarch have been the best mana creatures in modern since the format's inception. Deathrite, appearing quickly onto the scene but disappearing soon afterwards, briefly took the first place slot. Third place goes to Arbor Elf.
I believe Modern Horizons would be a perfect place to print new mana creatures that could compete for power level with Birds and Hierarch. These are the type of cards that are too good for standard - where they hesitated to even print Llanowar Elves - but are perfectly acceptable in modern and legacy.

I can't wait to see what they come up with.
Hmm... maybe the Naya version of Noble Hirearch-ish thing (for ally color reasons).
Something like:
Earthly SageG Creature - Avatar Wizard
Whenever Earthly Sage becomes tapped, if you control three more more lands, put target card from a player's graveyard onto the bottom of it's owner's library. t: Add W, G, or R. 0/1
I have a hypothesis that we might get a cycle of legendary dual lands. The wording on Nicol Bolas, Dragon-God and Mobilized District use the same phrasing: "Legendary creature and/or planeswalker." Which I thought was a bit odd. Why not just say "legendary permanent" like Primevals' Glorious Rebirth? (which was not printed that long ago, it's still standard legal)
If legendary dual lands were to be introduced into the meta and those cards said "legendary permanent" instead, the power level of NB,D-G's ultimate would drop dramatically and the power level of MD would become too OP'd. So I think the wording was chosen on purpose to not include legendary lands. So I anticipate that we may be getting legendary dual lands or something very powerful on the legendary land front.
The reveal date of Modern Horizons was so odd, it's so frustrating we have to twiddle our thumbs for another month before the spoiler season starts. If War of the Spark wasn't as huge as it turned out to be it would have just passed through my mind as white noise waiting for Horizons.
Not a great worry I thought they always show off for the end of Bolas Saga even if the story has written doesn't impress me I expected plenty of power for Dominaria, Return to Return to Ravnica and Gatewatch: Endgame
I can pre-order a box right now for €184 (comes down to €5,11 per pack).
Is that the bottom pre-order price? Will it dip more?
I’m Worried that as soon as some decent spoilers are released price will shoot up to 200+
I was in the same boat a few days ago. I had $22 worth of eBay cashback, set to expire on May 1st, and an 8% cashback bonus currently active, so I personally took the plunge. Cost me $176 out of pocket, with $16 cashback added to next cycle.
I am very worried that a small handful of good cards will cause these boxes to explode in price. If this is literally the only place to get some of these cards, and some of them end up being staples, they are going to be astronomically expensive. This should at least solidify me a good grab bag of cards I could resell if I want, and for whatever reason, I have been pretty lucky with my non-standard boxes.
spoilers shouldnt do much of anything to horizon preorder prices. gotta get it out of your head that its a masters type set, where the limited print run factored heavily into speculating on a box's price. so like you would see preorder prices continually rise as you got closer to release and spoilers injected their intended hype tax.
look at standard boxes, like WAR for example. with all the hype surrounding the set, and what looks to be a ton of chase cards; you can still order as many boxes as you want around ~$90-100. these prices are set by what the distributors can get and resell them at, and isnt increasing because wizards will print however much they order. meaning while it is in print, card prices in the set collectively move towards that expected value; instead of the other way around. that said there may be short term box price increases at certain places because localized supply shortages (like wizards undershooting dominarias 1st print wave when demand was super high).
the question is what prices distributors and major sellers are getting horizon boxes at. we know its more than standard sets by a few buck more per booster, and ive seen the 165ish figure thrown out without solid confirmation. if this is true then purchase prices online should remain at or a little south of 200. in that regard 170-180 per box is a pretty good deal.
if your sights are set on some time in the future when horizons is off the printing presses for good, then yeah sealed box prices will go up; especially if the draft environment is notable. this is true for pretty much any sealed product including any standard set; but varies in extent. whether the cards themselves will collect value at a good clip to hasten box price increases is more of an open question.

I desperately want a one-mana dork with defender.
They keep pushing the defender "theme" since last year (Arcades, and now High Alert), but a credible deck would need a proper wall to ramp/combo properly.
Interesting thoughts from Maro's Q&A at #MtGLondon.
Modern Horizons was originally dubbed as 'Timespiral / Planar Chaos 2' in concept due to set complexity. It won't be an entry level set and has *a lot* of mechanics, but is a love letter to the Time Spiral block. #MTGModern
I know WAR just dropped, and it looks great, but MH1 can't get here soon enough.

So according to this tweet: https://twitter.com/emmmzyne/status/1122513518887092226 Modern Horizons will be a rather complex set, sort of a Time Spiral 2:

That is a good thing, imho, which allows for creative design and will possibly give us exciting new tools to play with that we would otherwise never see in standard.
so while browsing reddit i came across a post of someone claiming to have a source on reprints in the near future (horizons and beyond). of course they also claim that this source was spot on for other recent reprints in a25 and uma. yeah i know... /eyeroll
anywho one of the cards was grindstone. after thinking about it, it seems like a tame 2 card combo (with the already legal painter's servant) that id be alright with. i do think artifacts get a bit too much special treatment in modern (tutors are bad!...unless its for artifacts), but the modern cardpool looks to be equipped to deal with those 2 cards interacting in that manner. not sure if it was mentioned earlier, but if its a thing i would give it a head nod.
here is the full list verbatim:
Also Force of Will won't be part of it, but Daze will be (European Source who was right about telling me Spoilers from Masters 25 and Ultimate Masters) so while i trust it, take with a Grain of Salt.
Other Cards this Source claimed will be either in Modern Horizons and have never been Modern legal so far or alternatively in a Supplemental Set afterwards like Commander 2019, but the Reprint is guaranteed judging by that Source's Spoilers i received from Masters 25 and Ultimate Masters Months before:
Jokulhaups (Rare) and old Art
Flusterstorm (Rare) and new Art
Food Chain (Rare) and new Art (Source spoiled that to me in December and it turned out to be a Judge Promo)
Rhystic Study (Rare) and new Art (Same, Source said probably Modern Horizons but turned out Judge Promo)
Urza's Lands (Common) and new Art
Cuombajj Witches (Common) and new Art
Stasis (Rare) and new Art
False Prophet (Rare) and new Art
Quirion Ranger (Common) and new Art
Stunted Growth (Rare) and new Art
Goblin Vandal (Common) and new Art
Fireblast (Uncommon) and new Art
Tinder Wall (Common) and new Art
Abu Ja'Far (Uncommon) and new Art
Aether Storm (Uncommon) and new Art
Epic Struggle (Rare) and new Art
Scryb Sprites (Common) and new Art
Rupture (Uncommon) and new Art
Wheel and Deal (Rare) and new Art
Skyship Weatherlight (Rare) and new Art
Mana Flare (Rare) and new Art
Contagion (Upshifted to Rare) and new Art
Erratic Portal (Rare) and new Art
Sterling Grove (Upshifted to Rare) and new Art
Hoodwink (Common) and new Art
Grindstone (Rare) and new Art
Gush (Uncommon) and new Art
Those are all of now. Personally i'm certain many of these won't be in Modern Horizons but in a Commander or Supplemental Product but otherwise i have no Reason to mistrust this Source. So do with this what you will.

Ah ok. That's fine. I'll consider it as speculation. Sorry as well, just came home from work and still recovering from tiredness. Did not understand properly your post.
Why the hell would they be reprinting Gush to Modern when it's literally banned in Legacy and restricted in Vintage
And legal as a 4-of in Pauper. Gush is one of those cards where its power level is largely determined by the format's limitations instead of the card itself.
That said I also find it unlikely to be in Horizons.

Treasure Cruise was never dangerous in Standard, but it's banned in Modern and Legacy and restricted in Vintage. Granted, it's also banned in Pauper.
Another uneven power level situation is Brainstorm being fully legal in Legacy and Pauper but restricted in Vintage. (Brainstorm isn't even that good in Pauper because all its fetchlands vaguely suck.)
Do you mean the wish cycle from Judgment? I remember Kibler created Red Zone 2k2 that used living wish many years ago. Would be nostalgia to see such things again.
