(Note that the 5 shared poll options aren't exactly the same, but they line up well enough to compare)
1s ("Modern is in a great place right now"): 10% vs. 13.7% 2s ("Modern is in a good place right now but could be better"): 33% vs. 49% 3s ("Modern is in a fine/medium place"): 31% vs. 7.8% 4s ("Modern is in a bad place but could be worse"): 21% vs. 21.6% 5s ("Modern is in one of the worse places its been in"): 5% vs. 7.8%
The biggest difference is in the 2s and 3s, which makes sense because the options are phrased differently. It could also mean reddit voters are more ambivalent/indifferent to the format as a whole than MTGS users are. But the 1s, 4s, and 5s line up very well. This suggests to me that our poll + the reddit poll are actually a good snapshot of Modern player opinions, at least if we're talking about online, forum-going, more enfranchised players.
So, strictly by these numbers, it seems as though Modern is pretty good. Obviously some dissent is good. It means that people care about the format. But someone here on MTGS brought up a valid point. Most people that would vote for #4 and #5 don't go to these polls. By nature, people that like the format are going to be more vocal (aka voting on polls, etc.).

This is indeed very interesting. I think in our case, questions #2 and #3 are differentiated quite a bit, while theirs are pretty similar, hence the different results. I think their 2/3 and our 2/3 total results align, signifying that there is a vast majority that enjoys modern without being extreme fans (as in, would defend it at any cost), but also would be ok if changes would shift things a bit (albeit probably not greatly, as in, remove the banlist or ban 5-6 cards).

I don't see how this is a valid point. On the contrary, I made the poll exactly because people said are afraid to talk if they don't like the format, and hence an anonymous poll would solve this issue. So people who don't want to be vocal in text, they can just vote their opinion. Let's not keep a narrative of a silent group that just dislikes the format but doesn't talk about it, doesn't want to talk about it, but is oppressed by the people who actually like the format. It doesn't make sense. I think the total N we have from both polls is enough to give a clear picture of the active playerbase.

What? There's maybe 5 people who are actively critical of Modern and there are 30 voters who do not enjoy Modern. It is indicative that there IS a silent group of people who are not enjoying Modern but are not actively posting about it.
And taking the results from the reddit poll. As of the time of this post there's almost 1000 voters. It's quite clear that a significant amount of players do not enjoy Modern, around 25% on both reddit and MTGS.

If I am a customer spending premium amount of dollars, I expect a premium service. Jund falls into the category of a premium deck costing more dollars than a majority of the rest of the format. In this thread, there are 27 unique posters who have actually posted, and 106 total voters. Assuming people aren't up to anything shady with accounts, that means there are 79 people who voted but did not post.
Of those 27 who voted, here's the breakdown as a percent of posters (n=27) and total posts (n=55):
1s: 6 (22% of posters, 18% of total posts)
2s: 7 (26% of posters, 25% of total posts)
3s: 0 (0% of posters, 0% of total posts)
4s: 7 (26% of posters, 38% of total posts)
5s: 1 (4% of posters, 7% of total posts)
Unknowns: 6 (22% of posters, 11% of total posts)
Based on this thread, the most common group of posters are actually the 4s and the 2s, with the most vocal of those groups being the 4s. This makes sense to me because these are the groups that are still campaigning for changes. 1s love the format and don't want to defend or address issues (they don't see any), 3s are ambivalent or indifferent and don't post, and 5s might be so checked out of a format they just hate. If this breakdown was also true in the reddit thread (hard to know), it supports a theory of a vocal minority of players who dislike Modern. The 4s and 5s represent 45% of the total posts in this thread, despite comprising only 30% of total posters and 29% of the total vote. This also makes sense to me, as we often see this effect in polls.
Good lord, none of us EVER said anything about a silent MAJORITY of players who dislike modern. How far are you guys going to go with this false narrative.

I didn't say that there is a majority, I said that there is a group.
You are saying that there is a large group of people that they are not posting BECAUSE they don't like the format. However, as both the results and KTK have demonstrated the same (if even more so) can be said for the people who DO like modern. The majority of the people who voted actually like the format, and the majority of this group isn't posting about it.
So in both groups we have people who are not posting. That leaves us with no argument around the people who don't post. Not everyone is going to post, and the fact that in both groups are people who are not posting isn't indicative of something. If anything, proportionally it's more likely that people who DON'T like the format will post rather than the other way around.
In my view this is an expected result, as people who enjoy it don't really have an incentive to actually post about it, and goes against the narrative that we saw in the State of Modern thread about a silent vocal majority that actually hates the format.
it undermines the theory of a silent majority of players who dislike Modern and actually supports a theory of a vocal minority of players who dislike Modern.
You are saying that there is a large group of people that they are not posting BECAUSE they don't like the format. However, as both the results and KTK have demonstrated the same (if even more so) can be said for the people who DO like modern.

I agree. I'm on board with everything else DaveJacinto said. In fact, he may be a brother from another mother, lol.
But Hymn to Tourach shouldn't be in. I think Wrench Mind is the extent of how powerful a "Hymn" effect should be or possibly a bit more strong.
LOL! Thanks man.

The random aspect of Hymn just adds a lot of non-games to the equation. Sorry for suggesting that.

The biggest takeaway for me is that a whopping 75.8% of voters want to see changes in modern, only varying in their tolerance for linear combo
We should not assume that "tolerance for linear combo" is a factor. It is not mentioned in any polling options. I also don't think it's particularly relevant that people want some kind of change. People often want things changed, whether in Modern, Magic, or any other social issue. Their enjoyment is probably more important. Enjoyment also likely influences the degree and type of changes people want. If you like Modern but want a few changes, maybe that just means unbanning SFM and new answer cards (That's my case). If you dislike Modern and want changes, maybe that means 2-3 bans. Those changes are very different and we can't make too many assumptions about them from the poll.
I was casually passing by the thread while waiting for our dinner to get cooked.
My previous post about saying how many people voted was not meant as an attack to anyone. If people got offended then I apologize.
that damn banhammer smashing all over the living room again
that's boring as ****; the game is rotative, just let it be, the seasons change and so do the decks.
the overall problem is one of general design, not of specific cards. it's not even power creep, just power segregation and power simplicity.
No, the 'game' is not rotational. The point of a format like Modern is that it simply doesnt rotate.
The format Standard, is rotational. Forced bans, are rotational, of a sort.
C'mon dude, think a little bit harder about what i said. Y'can do it.
Jund is still here with us. When does it rotate out?
maybe around when affinity rotates to not even pack a card with the ability's namesake and becomes a counters deck based around a GREEN enchantment, but oh wait that happened already, after happening N times to all decks of the format.
Think of waves. It's very simple.
I'm pretty happy with Modern, probably cause i havent been to a GP in a while. FNMs are generally fun where i play - lots of variety, fringe decks, etc.
Played a 16-person tournament yesterday, no Dredge, no Phoenix, no GDS, one Burn. We had Infect, U Tron, Scapeshift, old school Affinity with blue, The Rack.. I enjoy the format but I'm aware that I'm in a bubble of sorts. I probably wouldn't be so chuffed if I had to face seven Phoenix decks in a row at a PPTQ or GP. Oh well.
After tonight, I have a hard time not switching my response to #5. What a miserable experience, again. Horizon can't come soon enough.
Be careful what you wish for. I fear Horizon will deliver much less to the format than many players hope and i'm pretty sure it will not be the savior of modern without wizzards throwing away their recent design philosophy. And i doubt they are able to print answers into the set that are in line with the current/future powerlevel of modern.
On the other hand i really hope i'm just plain wrong with my assumptions and modern will be in a better place after Horizons hits the stage...
Until then i will enjoy playing Pauper and especially Legacy, which is in a great condition since Deathrite Shaman got axed.

EDIT: deleted an incorrect line.
For the sake of data I'll chime in and say I voted for #4. Like other posters have said in regards to Legacy, I wish more decisions mattered in Modern. Micro-decisions and back-and-forth gameplay is what originally drew me to modern at the format's beginning. I will say that recently I've given up on remand and cryptic command and have picked up a glass cannon, which has actually let me have a little more enjoyment of my games. At least I get to be the one either winning or losing to my deck, rather than drawing the wrong half of my deck or not being quick enough.
Also, I agree with the poster who said that people who don't care/don't like Modern aren't posting. When I'm super into Diablo I may post on forums or visit them, when I'm bored with it, I don't. If someone isn't liking Modern atm I don't see them trawling the forums and visiting polls; they're reading about other formats/things. Just my two cents.
It's a format that I have five different decks to pick from, each one can easily go 3-1 or 4-0 at FNM. I'll end up playing against the same deck maybe once every 10 matches. The last SCG open I went to I faced 7 different decks in 9 rounds. Sure there's a couple decks winning a lot at the moment, but it's still multiple decks winning a lot that play completely differently and they still don't make up 6 out of 8 spots like Eldrazi winter. Will you get paired up against decks you will struggle with? sure. The game has always had the paper/rock/scissors aspect to it.
The game has always had the paper/rock/scissors aspect to it.
Except "Scissors" is considerably better than everything else. But we tell ourselves it's "good" and "diverse" because there are 7 different kinds of scissors.

A vocalization didn't seem important before ktk's evaluation.

Except "Scissors" is considerably better than everything else. But we tell ourselves it's "good" and "diverse" because there are 7 different kinds of scissors.
