They just revealed some day 2 metagame percentage and conversion rates for DFW:
day 1 % -> 2 % (conversion rates)
Hogaak 11% -> 18.6% (33% conversion)
human ?% -> 7.3
phoenix ?% -> 7.3
company ?% -> 4.4 (25% conversion)
They gave historical cases:
Eldrazi conversion rate: 90% - 100%
Caw blade conversion rate: 90%
I mean, Phoenix is definitely a quiet offender. It had fantastic results at the MC tournament, but due to limited I don't think Phoenix was properly represented.
I very much think faithless looting is becoming an issue for modern and could go down the road of Probe. No, faithless looting is not to nerf Hoogak decks, it's an overall meta health issue.
I dont know why people continued to say Phoenix was fine. We will see though. If we get 2 or 3 Phoenix in this weekend's Top 8's, I'm laughing and then selling.
Guys please opinions on japanese cards. Lost a 3/3 creature against Japan celestial colonade. This guy played all creatures and spells in english cards, but some cards in his manabase was japanese. I dont registrated this really ( my brain say its all fine and all english to me lets attack his empty board)...and i am sure it is a Kind of legal cheating. It is not ok, but i know legal. I Hate such people. I never forget colonade normally, but with this Tricks it can happen one time in 3 years and such people take advantage of this
If I am a customer spending premium amount of dollars, I expect a premium service. Jund falls into the category of a premium deck costing more dollars than a majority of the rest of the format. I'm not getting the desired performance ratio per dollars spent out of the Jund deck because WOTC decided to make the format more diverse.
So far, my prediction was more than accurate. Hogaak Tier 1, nowhere near to being oppressive.
Hard to deny at this point. Honestly I enjoyed the games watching that, more than most Phoenix games I watched, but with Phoenix whiffing on the GP for the first time (I think?) well now people can just say 'everything is fine, nothing to see here!'

No Changes, and with UW x 2 in the GP? lol @ SFM.
There's still top 16/32 which will provide a more accurate picture of Hogaak + other decks' performance.
Not surprised UW did well, it's got so many tools the past year or two.

Yeah we certainly dont know the full story yet, but I am of the opinion that Wizard's puts a dramatic amount of weight behind Top 8, and 'perception'.
Will be interesting to dig into this + SCG + SCG Classic, and see what went down.
From what evidence we have, Wizards places significant weight on T8s at the GP level. From what I remember, they have never cited an SCG event, and I have no idea how they would even weigh a team event. Day 2s are also infrequently cited. The GP DFW T8 is the most important data point of the weekend.
Speaking of which, I can figure out a few of the T8 lists based on Tweets, but not all. What's the breakdown?
The UW Control vs Humans matchup in the quarters in DFW was sweet Magic. Humans turned into a prison deck game 2, and UW turned into a Monastery Mentor tempo deck game 3.

Well, outside of posturing like a cwazy wabbit, the real actual numbers are still valid:
18.6% day 2 metagame
33% conversion rate
2 top 8 placements
WHat's more, for those who actually watched the matches, hogaak was often piloted by non-pro players making mistakes. I also saw two bad beat. One was a hogaak player on two lands, both got spreading sea'ed on turn 2 and 3 and he didn't draw a single other land for teh rest of the game. In anoher case, a hogaak player self-milled 75% of his deck without milling a single copy of bridge from below.
I the deck ban worthy? The numbers are not quite there from this GP. I think it won't get anything banned but will put on a watch list.
There is literally no leg to stand on in regards to banning Hogaak at this point. As I mentioned yesterday I think we have not seen the 'best' of it yet, but as of right now? Phoenix is still a greater offender.
The results prove that as of now, Hogaak is not a problem. The meta is already adjusting and there was no dominance at Dallas GP. So no bans will be likely in the near future.

That would be awesome, he's been on the losing end of that win and in top 8 several times.

Total combined phoenix at 14% day 2 with an amazing conversion to top 8. Spotlight stolen.
Well, cfb just put out the top 8. Only 2 hogaak decks coming in at #6 and #7. Other decks were humans, E-tron, 2 U/W control, turns and thopter-sword.
We will see what the final results are, but that looks ok to me so far just looking at the top 8 lists at both events.
Edit: fixed results, I listed one deck incorrectly.
That is a really diverse top 8 out of the GP though.

The announcers first said it was red pheonix and I immediately posted that. Oops. Thanks for the correction.
