I've never played it long enough but Rest in peace would kill the deck pretty much. At that point you are playing over priced creatures with no synergy.
How perfroms the deck against Infect / Storm / Eldrazi and burn please ?
This deck is five color so feel free to run anything for sideboard but I do have a recommendation..
Best card to side in against Eldrazi, Burn, Zoo and other aggro deck is Worship. If you win game 1 and you play worship on game 2, they would not predict Worship so they have no way to deal with it and the match is in your favor. Due to high chance of Soulflayer gaining lifelink, you have high odds of winning without Worship against aggro deck though.
Against Infect you side in Spellskite, Darkblast(or any other removal spell), and maybe Thoughtseize and pray Soulflayer come into play with double strike(or first strike) and deathtouch. If you can buy enough time until you can Unburial Rites into Sphinx of the Steel Wind it'd be nice.
Against Storm you side in Thoughtseize, Faerie Macabre, and Abrupt Decay. If you can play Soulflayer with lifelink(preferably with haste/double strike) and gain enough life by the time opponent combo off it would be great.
I brought back Pull from Eternity and maximized the number of Spoils of the Vault and Gemstone Caverns since I'm not planning to run Serum Powder. It made turn 2~4 Soulflayer significantly more consistent for a price of life loss which can hurt against aggro match up. It possible to make up for the life loss if Soulflayer come into play with lifelink.
So far the top 4 card I've searched with Spoils of the Vault are Soulflayer, Faithless Looting, Pull from Eternity, and Gemstone Mine. So far it been a great utility card that gives me card I need depending on situation.
edit: I've lost more games from Spoils of the Vault then number of times I've won with it. It a really fun card but too much risk.
This is dredge-soulflayer deck I made after I was inspired by the dredge deck by Jason Chung, top 8 finalist from Grand Prix Melbourne 2016.
I used to always avoid Zombie Infestation because I thought Lotleth Troll was better, but it turns out it a lot more useful utilitywise and it offers additional wincons. Interactions such as discarding Unburial Rites and Call to the Netherworld was something I've been missing out with Lotleth Troll.
I would appreciate any feedback for this deck since I think it'll actually be good if I build it correctly.
Just made a account for this thread. I come across this card Soulflayer and I really love it. It do have a lots of potentials. However, I do not like to make the entire deck for only one card. It's just too unreliable. I add it to my BR Burn deck. it may not have too many fancy skills, but a 2-drop 4/4 haste and tremple creature in a burn deck is not bad at all.
This is a super aggressive deck, I can do 20 damage in T3 without use Soulflayer
I like your approach! I think Eidolon of the Great Revel would fit because it a staple in burn deck and soulflayer doesn't trigger it. Thing with soulflayer with only haste and trample is it can't do anything against Tarmogoyf, or any eldrazi creatures. If you can find a way to give soulflayer evasion like flying I think it would be nice. Maybe Hell's Thunder? I like your deck though.

I don't think Tarmogoyf is a huge problem to me. If Tarmogoyf coming out at a early game, summoning Soulflayer maybe able to reduce its power because of the Delve ability. And if he coming out at late game and becoming super fat, I am going to lose the late game anyway since burn deck do not have a plan B. Soulflayer at here is just like any other burn cards in the deck.
I feel Hell's Thunder just not good enough by himself, there are too many 1/1 fly tokens. If I want a 3-drop creature maybe I will try Ball Lightning
Plan A: Soulflayer
Plan B: Unburial Rites into Akroma, Drogskul or Sphinx
Plan C: Tokens
After several play testing I've decided to return blue and green back in the deck for Life from the Loam and Geist of Saint Traft. It makes the mana base greedy but this deck needs more playable spells. Lingering Souls and Zombie Infestation makes plan C stable in case graveyard gets wiped out. A combination of Plan A & C or Plan B & C is our primary wincon.
Everything about Nahiri, the Harbinger is useful for us. She can deal with Blood Moon, Rest in Peace, Scavenging Ooze, and other pesky cards. Her ultimate let us attack with Akroma, Drogskol or Sphinx which can be discarded next turn if Nahiri (and opponent) was still alive by using her first ability.
Odric, Lunarch Marshal can share any ability Soulflayer has with other creature during combat which is interesting. If I control Soulflayer with doublestrike and haste, Odric, and few Spirit/Zombie tokens it can end the game quickly.
Let me know if I missed anything from SOI that can help improve this deck!

This legitimately looks like the most fun deck ever. How are your matchups? How has testing gone? Any competitive results? Maybe you could add a God or a creature with Indestructible for another strong keyword. Or Chromanticore? Maybe Sylvan Caryatid as another Hexproof target you could also use as ramp to hard cast the win cons? Don't mind Sigarda, either. Could also go heavy on black/red and use Demigods.
Looks fun now that SOI is coming. However, stupid question but with the Flayer's ability of gaining the "power ups" its whats stated on the card. Cant snag landwalk stuff right?
I don't run any Dredge Shenanigans, just pure beefy Soulflayer. I have a few Jund-control elements to protect the combo. The card that is giving me the most grief is Blood Moon, but I added a few more basics so hopefully the match up will be better. Thoughts?
I was having some trouble with Blood Moon as well, but I found the addition of 4 Sylvan Caryatid helped with mana issues and also gives Soulflayer Hexproof.
I was just redirected to this thread. Here's my version. While it can't produce a turn 1-2 Soulflayer, turn 3 consistently gives us a flying, haste, double strike wincon with hexproof. Otherwise, everything can be cast and Lotleth Troll is our plan B.

I like your decklist! I haven't thought about playing purely GB land base for soulflayer. I've always included red for Faithless Loot but maybe it wasn't necessary. I'll give a try with your list and see if I like it!

I've never tried Quicksilver Amulet in soulflayer so I wouldn't know but seems like a nice side plan. It would solve the problem of top decking Akroma, Angel of Wrath, Drogskol Reaver, and Sphinx of the Steel Wind. I'm not very positive with Breach/Goryo because these creatures are not strong enough, maybe we should start running 4x Griselbrand. Griselbrand does have lifelink and flying which is also good for Soulflayer.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I haven't touched the list in awhile but I plan on testing it competitively soon. I'm new to Modern though so I'm open to sideboard suggestions. Here's what I have so far. Let me know what you think:

True! You could also Quicksilver AMulet your creatures at the end of your opponent's turn and swing in next turn. Or as a surprise blocker lol.

Turn 2~3 flying, double strike and hexproof Soulflayer is great!
mine's not working either.. it worked few month ago though.
EDIT: I cant log a bug from within the game? GTFO of here wizards...lol

Against Relic of Progenitus, Nihil Spellbomb and Scavenging Ooze, hold priority after casting either Faithless Looting, Grisly Salvage, or Taigam's Scheming and then cast Soulflayer. Opponent cannot response to Soulflayer delving the cards in graveyard.
Against Rest in Peace, try to destroy it with Abrupt Decay or Wear // Tear. Or you can go for Worship plan and stay alive until you can hardcast the big creatures with help of Sylvan Caryatid or Simian Spirit Guide.
I hope that answers your questions!

The Gitrog Monster has an amazing synergy with Life from the Loam and Zombie Infestation. I am hoping to use Gitrog Monster as an utility tool for Soulflayer or secondary wincon.

What SOI pickups will this deck have? Anyone testing new stuff?
I'm looking forward to Nahiri, the Harbinger, The Gitrog Monster, Traverse the Ulvenwald and Odric, Lunarch Marshal. I think the one with the most potential is Traverse the Ulvenwald. Nahiri is also great but Im not sure if everyone is using RW for their deck.
I like your deck a lot! Moldervine Cloak is something no one mentioned before I think. Ashen Rider is a great idea, maybe after game 1 you can swap it out with Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite or Iona, Shield of Emeria from sideboard.

I was also considering 1 or 2 copies of Nighthowler for either Lotleth Troll and/or Soulflayer itself.
True! You could also Quicksilver AMulet your creatures at the end of your opponent's turn and swing in next turn. Or as a surprise blocker lol.
I would recommend 3~4 Thoughtseize since it can hit anything critical to us such as Scavenging Ooze and Rest in Peace. Spellskite is also amazing at slowing down fast opponent such as infect, boggle and burn. I think Moldervine Cloak is better than Nighthowler since it can act as dredge spell and buff Soulflayer/Lotleth Troll. I would also recommend Traverse the Ulvenwald in mainboard.
