Okay, I see what you're saying for the most part. I'm definitely on board with the killing x-1s mode - it's the planeswalkers I'm still a bit curious about. It seems good against Teferi, Liliana and Chandra because they will often "start" at 1 against us, but it seems mediocre against Jace, no? Unless we're teaming it with a Blinkmoth or something. And is it really worth a card to ping Karn down to 2 against Tron? I noticed in your Worcester report you had access to Shot but didn't bring it in against UW or Tron.

There have been more recent reports since then that do bring it in, as well as dedicated matchup guides that advocate for it. Gut is definitely bad against Tron. It's amazing when the walkers go to 1, which most walkers do against us. Fine against Jace decks because they tend to run Clique anyway; that and Bolt-Snap-bolt is their only way to actually beat us. Combined with manlands, pretty much any walker goes down really fast.
Since Colorless is forced to run really narrow stuff in the side because it has no colors, the spells we do employ tend to have very specific uses, and they will definitely underperform if those uses are not understood by the pilot. It sounds like you haven't actually tried GS in these matchups with its purpose in mind. Jamming games is the best way to absorb this information, but if you're looking for a shortcut, read my articles.
the card itself really isn't worth the card board its printed on...does it serve a purpose? Sure its a blue 1 drop that might not be a 1/1. I would not put it in a list and expect to win a PTQ or GP though.
Haha, no, I haven't tried it yet, hence my questions. But after seeing that newer report I can see its strength now. I did read most of your articles the first time I picked the deck up but obviously didn't remember everything. I'll have to do another once-over. I've been crushing in MTGO leagues with the deck since London came online though. I hope the new rule sticks.
Just back from playing the deck in Cardmarket Series Ghent, they were around 400 players.
Went a pretty harsh 1-4 and dropped, so I'm a bit disappointed.
Burn 1-2. It was a very close match, probably could have won it had I been more patient, but playing smasher into mimic just felt too good.
GW Vizier combo deck 0-2. Made a mistake in first game, and drew five lands in a row in second game.
GW "good stuff" 0-2. This one was weird and I wasn't prepared. Couldn't finish him and then he just had better creatures.
Grixis Shadow 2-0. It was the only match I won, and pretty easily so, thanks to Chalice.
Humans 1-2. Unlucky, I lose last game mulliganing to 3 without hitting a single powder.
It's my second time playing the deck in a big tournament and I feel the deck is still very inconsistent, even though I did a few mistakes against the GW decks.
Overall, I mulliganed a lot, often to 5, without hitting my powders, and my hate cards weren't good.
Obviously it'd be better to play against "meta" decks like Phoenix and Grixis Shadow all day, but I feel I shouldn't lose so hard to random creature decks.
I'm not convinced by Torpor Orb in sideboard, I managed to play it turn 1 against Humans ans still get wrecked.
As it turns out, it doesn't stop Meddling Mage from choosing a card.

thx for your report. Most people only do it if they have success, so respect! We need more of this reports
Someone on Reddit claimed it was an auto four-of in the deck....I'm not so sure about that. I like the card a lot, but it's also kinda slow and does nothing against some decks.
Right now I'm thinking of going down to one Scavenger Grounds to play a copy and maaaaybe cut a manaland to play a second one (I'm already only running two Caverns and three Ghost Quarters).

overall I need more practice. Any advice or wisdom is appreciated TY.
reason for the tron lands, I do not yet own the manlands. I put the Tron lands in to confuse my opponent as to what I am playing.
2 Blinkmoth Nexus and 2 Mutavault, 2 Ratchet Bomb will be going in the main board when I play next time.
working to buy into 4 Chalice of the Void (or selling my first born)
I haven't really liked Scavenger Grounds in this deck, so I think I'll cut both and my third Gemstone Caverns for 3 Explosion Zones. Having a mainboard boardwipe and out to bridge is super powerful, but it's important to note that Explosion Zone doesn't kill tokens.
Why no Zhalfrin Voids, Wicked? They are dirt cheap and are much better than random Tron lands. For your budget build, I would cut all the Tron lands and add in Zhalfrin Void + one more Scavenger Grounds.
The best advice on how to play the deck can be found in the Modern Nexus articles by the OP.
Lands New:
4 Blinkmoth Nexus
4 Eldrazi Temple
3 Ghost Quarter
3 Zhalfirin Void
2 Gemstone Caverns
2 Mutavault
2 Wastes
1 Scavenger Grounds
1 Explosion Zone
1 Sea Gate Wreckage (This might go back to the fourth Void, as I've been underwhelmed with it in the past, but I'm not in the camp of auto 4 of Voids when there are other options.)
Thinking of adding a one of expedition map to the SB to tutor with Karn, understanding the risk of chalice on one. This probably won't happen though as scavenger grounds is just relic, and explosion zone is just maybe faster ratchet bomb.

The new land "explosive zone" seems super strong!!
I believe we want to play at least 2-3. It offers maindeck answers some of the most troublesome cards g1 like ensnaring bridge or a flood of humans/elves. Adding these to the main deck also frees crucial SB slots by cutting the same number of ratchet bombs.
it's also worth noting that if the land will become a modern staple, it won't even be good against us at all, as it won't be able to answer chalices or any of our expensive creatures effectively.
I'm eager to hear Jordan's opinion on this, but I think we've hit the jackpot here.
Explosion Zone is interesting, but it is going to eat up a lot of mana to get there. You'll need 5 lands out, including itself, to pump it for 2 (not including SSG), which is not insignificant and not fast. On the other hand, against Humans, Elves, Spirits and the like, 1 or 2 is probably what we want anyway, if we are still alive. I don't know, I think it needs testing, but it is definitely worth testing.

It enters with one counter on it. So theoretically you can kill a bunch of 2 drops on turn 4 (three lands this, turn three is tapping it to add the second counter, turn four is another land drop and blowing stuff up.) It's roughly the same speed as ratchet bomb but much more mana intensive. I like it as a one of.

It is more mana intensive compared to the bomb, but it surely is less time intensive, as it can sweep 1 cmc's as soon as the turn it enters the bf, or 2's and 3's just a turn later!
Just imagine it against something like death shadow: it's an uncounterable undiscardable 4 mana instant speed one-sided sweeper!!
At the very least, Explosion Zone is a nice mana sink if circumstances permit. Also random question, are people replacing Sea Gate Wreckage with Zhalfirin Void now?

Yes, Zhalfrin Void has replace Sea Gate Wreckage. I've been playing it as a 4-of since Dominaria came out. Frankly, Sea Gate Wreckage was never very good for me and I wanted to drop it before Zhalfrin Void was printed.
Off topic: Crunched some numbers today and the last list that Jordan posted on modern nexus has 218,694 unique opening sevens that are not all land or all non-lands. Just thought it was neat to know in such a mulligan intensive deck with the possibility of the London mulligan.
Question, is Leyline of the Void worth using over Relic if I have them?
