Hi all. I was wondering about people's views of or experiences with Karn, Scion of Urza. For testing, I have put 2 in the MB, cutting a Warping Wail and an Endless One (I had cut 2 Matter Reshaper for 2 Endless One and the Smuggler's Copter for Wail from standard lists), but have yet to draw it and use it in game play. I like its potential to be able to: 1) filter the deck late game and get access to extra cards as needed, also in the same way we can play Scourge from exile; 2) creating thopters that get pumped by artifacts seems to go great with the Chalices and Powders we often have on the battlefield.
Karn is a powerful grindy tool but not something I want game 1. He's not agressive enough to fit the main strategy. Generally I find our sideboard to be somewhat weak, so I try to maximize broken fast draws game 1 to give better chances for a second win.
I like Karn in the SB to use instead of Smuggler's Copter against UW. Currently I'm playing Endless Ones in the main because all of the removal heavy matchups locally have dried up. A 4th Ghost Quarter in the SB rounds out the slots Ratchet Bomb used to fill to help shore up games against Big Mana strategies because, as frequently mentioned, you generally just lost to Ensnaring Bridge plans regardless.
On a side note, my final package came in from overseas this weekend, I'll be running games with a fully foiled Japanese print 75 in prep for SCG Regionals when it rolls around. If anyone is interested, you can check it out here:
I have a pile of additional Spatial Contortions if Humans picks up that will go in, and some Endbringers are on the designated hitter deck in case a go-big is needed. But, for now, thisb75 has been serving me rather well.
Hi guys, I§m in need of taking a break from my storm and martyr proc decks and was looking in this direction.
Im about halfway done reading through the modern nexus articles on the deck and just wanted to ask if eldrazi stompy would do well in this meta in your opinion.

I think the deck is great right now. It's been putting up results too with about one copy in every major top 16 for the last few months. Definitely finish reading those articles!
the card itself really isn't worth the card board its printed on...does it serve a purpose? Sure its a blue 1 drop that might not be a 1/1. I would not put it in a list and expect to win a PTQ or GP though.
Thoughts about the new mulligan rule being tested at MC in London?
If something like that did actually make it to Modern, what could the deck cut/add? Does it remain relatively unchanged and simply just play better? It seems like the deck would get a lot more consistency in the early games, being able to get to Temple and Chalice easier, and Game 2 getting to sideboard cards easier.
It was mentioned that new bans would be discussed if the new mulligan rule came into effect, with a lot of people guessing at Leylines being the first to ban, and some even mentioning Serum Powder.

Not allways Exile 7? That's bad! Thx for your artikle, it is good knewing this. By the way guys, my last tournament with 5 rounds. Played vs burn, 8 rack, jund, again jund, bogles. Lost vs burn only https://www.mtgtop8.com/event?e=21166&d=341170&f=MO
Yes it stays same now. We could be tier 1 if not. But maybe it is better, because more decks would play serum powder if allways 7 and thus could be a ban on the future. As example my plan was playing powder too in my Pyro prison

I think this is an over-simplification. We still benefit more than non-Powder decks overall. From the article:
...seeing extra cards lets us dig deeper into Powder and Scourge, setting up hands to exile away for additional “free” mulligans. Under the old system, a keep there would yield drawing into that copy of Powder a couple turns down the road.
So now if there is a Powder in the top 1-3 cards after we mull, we can get it straight into our hand, and use it to continue digging for Temple before choosing to keep. Similarly, we can choose which cards from the hand we exile, tucking valuable resources like Dismember, TKS, or even lands (if we have Scourges exiled) before exiling. In some cases, we might find a "5-card hand" that has multiple Scourges, Powder, and Temple; we can choose to bottom the Temple and exile the rest, plussing from Scourges while digging for better hand while keeping Temple in the deck for future mulligans. That's kind of an extreme example since we are likely to keep a hand with Temple, but the same goes for any more valuable card in an opener we otherwise want to exile away.

Yes it is true, seems we benefit still a lot of this because like you say, we can search too for powder to keep going on. I hope this rule comes, but I am not sure. What you think? How are chances new mulligan can pass London?
By the way, if London mulligan really comes, Gemstone caverns will be boosted too because after mull you can put it under bib if not needed or multiple in hand. I will try 4 of them for sure in my 60
Hey all, I've picked up this deck and have been having a lot of fun with it. Thanks to Jordan for all the awesome content. The question I have right now is does anyone have any strong opinions on the land count? It seems like 23 is standard, but I also see lists with 22 winning. I picked up a 22 list and it has felt fine so far. Thoughts?
Also @agattuso have you considered playing Tectonic Edges with 1-2 Crucible of Worlds in the side instead of Caverns/Sower/Ulamog? This is a great plan against control I've used a lot in my time playing Eldrazi Tron. Edge is also great against Tron, Amulet, and Valakut which can be problematic matchups for this deck. It's not as good of a plan as Cavern against control specifically, but I think it hits more of the field better, and it would make it easier to consider not playing Sower or Ulamog which are harder to use against the field, freeing up SB space for more useful things.
We don't want a Smasher or Seer to have to wait around in hand because we're mana constrained. And unlike any other deck, all our lands have spells attached to them, so flood is less of an issue. Make your 23rd land a Mutavault or Blinkmoth Nexus and you should be good to go.
If that's your meta you should just play Burn instead But for this deck those matchups are just fine. I wouldn't be running to sleeve it up in that field.
Shadow is a pretty good match, as is izzet pheonix. We have the tools to handle u/w but their boardwipes can be huge blowouts for us. Chalice is important to all 3 matches.
Have a read to this article. I dont agree with all of it, but it is another good place to start AFTER reading all of Jordan's articles on Modernexus. Also there is a very good discord group.... good luck with the deck! Personally, I find best matchups are where Chalice is most effective - GDS, Burn, Infect, Jund/Abzan (we can also grind!), Bogles, even Phoenix decks. Just to give you an idea...
Protip, if you are in post-board games against Bogles, and they manage a 1-drop before you put down Chalice, naming Gryf's Boon with Sorcerous Spyglass can result in a hilariously fun time where they don't have a 2drop enchantment outside of Cornet and can never get their chain started. Then an additional Chalice on 1, or one on 2 to shut off Seal of Primordium, makes clean-up easy peasy.

They rarely play more than 1 Boon and frequently play more than 1 Seal of Primordium, so I would name the latter in the dark. Besides, they sometimes have Unflinching Courage side, which gets around this plan.
