So an Ensoul Artifact deck. I like the soft lock of Necrogen Spell Bomb and Academy Ruins but it doesn't come online until 5 lands and they need to already have an empty hand. Getting through Stony Silence and Spellskite post-board is key. Spell snare or Steel Sabotage are great but you basically need them T1. The Abrupt Decays are so solid and deal with opposing Lilis which hurt with an ensouled artifact on an empty board.
The Strixes are a bit of a pet card. I like them in these Tezz type decks. They'll trade with a Goyf or any aggro creature and the recursion is great. 2 in the air is fine. I need a 2 drop to come down T3 on the play to protect against against a Lili. I could see arguments for spellskite here.
The Golems are a bit of a throw back to an earlier deck. I just sort of wanted a bit of a top end and them coming down on curve after a Shadow of Doubt gottcha can be tough. I also want to be able to tutor up a solid threat with Tezz. Maybe a 2/3 split rather than the 3/2 I have going?
What if you don't have the Ensoul Artifact? Most 2 cards together are really good.
Actually I did try Vault Skirge but alongside the Strix. I just don't think Ensoul gets there. Getting 2 for 1-ed is atrocious.
If getting 2-for-1'ed is what you're scared of, then don't play ensoul in the first place. Obviously that's a bit difficult for a deck based around ensoul, so the next best thing I'd say is playing things like Darksteel Relic with abilities that make them hard to remove.
Yeah, I don't think it's good enough to get there. I'll pull the deck apart after EMN drops. In the meantime, I've definitely slowed down quite a bit. A couple of discard spells, a spellskite or leaving stubborn denial mana up goes a long way.

Nah. Can't trade with a Goyf or Gurmag Angler.
Actually, with the average Goyf being 4/5, a 5/5 skirge would be able to kill it and live.
