Amen brother. Feeling the same way. Still squeaking out 3-2s with this deck but the amount of auto losses I am seeing from these faster aggro decks is really just not fun anymore. Serum Powder Eldrazi was also fun for a bit until I started losing to those same decks also.
I've been messing around with the Mono Red prison control decks. Hoping to see some exciting stuff come out soon for us though. Been attached to Thalia Stompy since stabilo first piloted it 2 years ago.
Went to a PPTQ today. Second time really running the deck, ended up making Top 8 and losing to UW Control in the quarterfinals.
The deck did great, however i’m not really a fan of the dismembers and the copters but that’s on limited experience with the deck so maybe i’m just haven’t had them in that right spot yet.

KCI has been the freest MU in all of modern. We have MD chalice, tks, and Thalia with a fast clock with a ton of hard sb answers that chalice even protects from nature's claim.
Hardened scales Is hugely favorable. I think I'm something like 12-1 vs them. It's like affinity but much easier g1 (due to the amount of 1 drops they run making chalice way better) and more hate post board.
I stand by that humans is fine post board. I have a ~66% win rate vs them. Just aggressively mull for hate.
The one shift in the meta that's poor for us is Jeskai moving to UW which is much closer to 50/50 vs Jeskai which was one of the decks we preyed upon.
While I have lost to hollow one, I usually don't. Early chalice and Thalia just wreck them and then displacer takes the game over.
Vengevine is even easier since they're all 1s and don't have a crazy sb removal plan.
Spirits often can't beat a worship, though they can just get you sometimes. I don't have enough reps there to say one way or the other, but it /feels/fine.
Seriously, hollow one, vengevine, hardened scales, and kci are all huge reasons to play this in my mind.
Spiderspace, I really should watch your stream sometime. Seems impossible to me that you can beat humans 66% of the time. I'll check your channel out and see if I can catch your lines and thinking when playing versus humans. It's a popular Deck so definitely want to improve there.
It is funny though that you are having issues with control whereas I generally feel confident I can win that match up...uw/jeskai all the same to me 40-18 all time vs jeskai + UW control.
Really interesting the different perspectives and maybe play styles here with the exact same Deck.
Lukaz, my last 2 leagues I went 4-0 before losing to Humans in one league and then losing to Hardened Scales to ruin my chances at a 5-0. I got frustrated that I was literally thinking of putting in a 1x Solemnity into the board. I may do it just to test it out but I also don't know what to take out. May be worth it.
the spirits match, i believe, hinged a lot on T1 Chalice. It was a match i wasn’t looking forward to but turned out very well. postboard i brought in 1 Walking Ballista, 1 Ixalan’s Binding and 2 Ratchet Bomb. and took out 2 Dismember, 2 Thalia.
i have two more PPTQ’s coming up in my area that i plan to play the deck at, most likely with a few edits here and there. the 75 i’m working with at the moment looks like this
Archangel Avacyn is a bold move, especially with 23 lands. On the other hand, it is effectively both a sweeper stopper and a sweeper. How is that working with Tocatli in the SB? Don't you want them both in the same match?

i have been thinking of adding a 24th land but i’m on the fence.
The only match i really bring Tocatli in for is Humans and even then only the indestructible is an ETB. The sweeper effect is on transform, so it would not be prevented by Tocatli, however the ability to put the transform damage on the stack and then blink avacyn with displacer in order to save your own creatures would not be an option.
I do like the look of Avacyn, but 5 non eldrazi and WW is kind of steep. Maybe I'll try it as a 1x.
I have to note that you're not on worship in the board. Is the card just not doing it for you?
I actually bring in tocatli a lot, but perhaps I would less without it making a worship lock.
Similarly, what is binding doing for you? I haven't understood that choice from the get-go. It seems so clunky. Cast out is an instant that cycles if it's too clunky and it's really there for trouble cards like blood moon and bridge while also catching the odd walker hence why it's in the board. Like, if you hate dismember that much, journey to nowhere is your card right?
Also I think chalice on 1 is much better vs bant spirits than it is vs UW. And taking out dismember there can't be right. You want all the removal you can get there.
KCI, Control, and Infect rounded out the top 8. Agree with spiderspace, KCI is an easy match-up as is Infect and Jeskai Control. However, those aggro decks are the worst and I'm leaning towards exclusively playing the RW version to get access to Anger of the Gods, Engineered Explosives, and Wear/Tear for this current meta.
In the Archangel Avacyn/Eldrazi Obligator/2nd Smuggler's Copter flex spot, I ran a Moltensteel Dragon for a couple Leagues just for kicks - surprisingly not horrible and actually closed out a game vs RG Ponza, but too much artifact hate/Dismember-able and no Haste made me go back to Obligator.

i’ve gone back and forth on the 1 or 2 of for Avacyn. But i do think that it can have a lot of utility as a board wipe and against board wipes either by flashing it in or blinking it with displacer, which can also reset the wipe potential if it has already flipped or save your guys from the flip damage.
i haven’t been on the worship plan simply because it was a card i didn’t have access to, i have rectified that as of today so i am including a one of in the board going forward.
What i like from Binding over Cast Out is that unless the opponent can remove it they can no longer cast any further copies of what you hit with it. so effectively it shuts down more than just one copy of a problematic card.
i don’t necessarily hate dismember but i’m not in love with it either. i haven’t found anything i prefer in its place however. so i stick with it.
Hi guys,
Current build trying out the Archangel Avacyn 1 of in main plus sideboard configured just to stop Scales/Spirits/Elves/Humans. We'll see how this goes. Still hovering at a 60.5% win rate, but hating how popular these decks are becoming. How's everyone else adjusting?
I lost to Jeskai Control, mostly through a lack of early aggression. I was not running Copter, which I think hurt, but it was still pretty bad overall. If they get to 4 mana, it is very hard to deal with them. Actually, Turn 3 I got to double Strip Mine him and he still found 5 lands before I could kill him because I found ZERO threats.
I beat BW Eldrazi and Taxes because Honor Guard destroys them. Dec in Stone was also great.
I lost to UR Thing in the Ice, which isn't a tier 1 deck, but a deck with maindeck Blood Moon, a ton of counterspells, and Abrade just isn't going to be a good match. Game 2, i had Turn 2 TKS, turn 3 Smasher, he had Ceremonious Rejection, remand, Blood Moon. I drew 7 more lands and not one basic. GG.
But that also means I played variance, since Jeskai has dropped in popularity and the other two are not seeing much play. It probably would have been okay if the night was Hardened Scales, KCI, Tron, etc., but no one at my locals is playing those decks it seems (I didn't see them at any of the boards.) I did see Elves, Spirits, UW Control, G Tron, Mardu Pyro, Bant Spirits, Ponza, and two kitchen table home brews.
EDIT:
I could also be crazy, but I am just not all that impressed with Copter. Half the time I just want it to be Matter Reshaper. I know we want some air power, but I also just don't like the two drop that doesn't do anything if I don't have another creature.
