I would like to ask you for help with building a budget modern forest fetch deck. I have been playing and revising it for a while now and this is what I esentially ended up with. I came up with the idea for this deck when I played against a Tempest Djinn deck in standard. I loved how the creature grew with the game and how the player is awarded for playing basic land cards. (with mana base usually being the most expensive part of a deck) Firstly, I figured I'd build the deck around the full set of Blanchwood Armor but then I've found cards that are so much better. However, since I am a beginner, I have probably missed some cards that might fit this deck better than some of the options I've chosen and I wasn't able to find a deck that would be in any way similar to this one.
Concept
The idea is pretty simple. First, you fetch into play or your hand as many forests as posible in the first three rounds with the suspend cost of Search for Tomorrow, Rampant Growth and then Nissa's Pilgrimage. Then you play 2-3 big creature threats for little mana. In the final stage you use your big creatures for killing off your enemy's creatures by blocking or Prey Upon or you use a copy of Soul's Majesty to get a crazy card advantage or you go for the kill in the form of Rancor or the surprise kill through Primal Bellow.
Ideal Play
1. Land (first) + suspend Search for Tomorrow
2. Land (second) + Rampant Growth (third Land)
3. Land (fourth) from suspend + Land (fifth) + any creature threat + Rancor or Prey Upon
Thoughts
- There are so many options to play in this that it becomes a bit overwhelming. I tried a set of Vinelasher Kudzu and many others but they are all quite slow and vulnerable to "return to hand effects" that I'd like to avoid at all cost.
- I ditched the set of Sakura-Tribe Elder for Rampant Growth which is a terrible card but it helps me cast the spell mastery of Nissa's Pilgrimage that significantly helps me to "feed" my creatures.
I'll be happy for any comments you might have on this deck, including that this deck might just be too slow for this format.
Thanks a bunch for any tips,
Peace
Return of the Wildspeaker is just a better Soul's Magesty. Rancor and Dungrove Elder should be a 4 of. Rancor gives you power and the ability to punch through while the Hexproof on elder is the most important thing. It's going to be a tough deck to pull off though even at not competitive events.
