Hi everyone
Played a few more matches this week and won most of them. Still very happy with the deck BUT
Please watch this game against "money tribal" feat. Uro and Omnath...
My opponent gains 30 life with these two cards and draws god knows how many additional cards along the way.
I really think that it shouldn't be allowed to have Uro, Omnath, Field of the Dead and Mystic Sanctuary in one deck in Modern. These cards together are just too strong. Uro or Omnath should get banned and Sanctuary too. Do you agree?
Btw, I ultimately loose the match 1-2. If you want to see games 2 & 3 as well then I'll upload them.
Today I watched Squa Chief playing a 4-1 league with a pretty cool Delver deck (with DS and Scourge of course). A moment ago someone on MTGO who played that deck ran into my deck.
You can watch game 1 here and witness the power of the Broodmoth!
Game 2 I was pretty lucky that his Delvers didn't flip for several turns. I had a Nevermore on DS and my Mirran Crusader kept his Scourge in check. When his Delvers finally flipped it was too late since I was ready to equip Sword of F&I to Crusader with Giver backup and he was at 5 life and out of cards.
I hope you don't mind my critiques.
The only problem I saw in that game was the turn you vialed in a SFM main phase. They then cast an IoK. If you had held the Mystic you could have responded to the IoK by vialing in the mystic and fetching Batterskull in response. That would have blanket the IoK.
The best general rule is to wait until the last opportunity to do something. I'm just trying to help you become a better player. Hope that's cool.
Good news is that your opponent played a perfect game and you still took it. That kinda shows the power of the deck.
Hi megatog201, I don't mind it at all. On the contrary, I am happy when someone looks closely and helps me to become a better player.
Regarding that SFM play: That was a total brainfart. I vialed her in main phase because I wanted to play Maul right away while totally forgetting about Thalia -_-
But I'd like to ask you one thing about the other game against Omnath: Would you have used Sejiri Shelter at 4:10 to save SFM?
I kept it to protect Thalia since I loose the game the moment she get's removed but saving SFM there could at least have bought me one more turn. Since my opponent had Cryptic I would have lost anyway but I wonder what the "right" play in that situation was...
That game, as you have clearly said already, didn't really matter what you did. That deck was just on top. People sometimes think if they played perfect that they should have won. But what about the flip side? The opponent could also play perfect... So they deserve to win also, right? It's just that playing perfect can give you a few percentage points, but sometimes the opponent's cards just lines up better against your cards. That and also some matchups are just bad. I don't know the case in this regard as your deck is kinda an unknown factor. You are basically the only one playing it. Lol. Which is good because the games feel fresh.
I had ordered the Metamorph on Monday but it didn't arrive on time for FNM. Found it in the mail yesterday when I came back from FNM
However, FNM was great. Easy 2-0 against classic Boros Burn, easy 2-0 against Jund, frustrating 0-2 against Uro. Can't beat that **** card. Why isn't it banned yet!?
Today I played a nice match against BG Toolbox with Yawgmoth. You can watch the third game of our match here. The Humans are still strong in this deck
(My opponent misclicked at 0:57 which is unfortunate but it's an entertaining game nonetheless. At the very end I skipped a few seconds but what happens is that I give my two non-flying attackers pro black.)
Yes, nice game buddy. I was so excited to finally get to see the moth-captain combo. Dang opponent stopped it from happening though. So rude!
Uro... Have you considered a few SB cards to fight him off? One of my favorites is Apostle of Purifying Light. This is a great SB at the moment. Fights the Shadow and Scourge decks. Fights any mainly black deck like the one you just faced. Is targeted and repeated graveyard removal for Goyfs, Uro, Ooze, etc. Can do work in some matchups that you wouldn't expect. Like against storm. Turns off the Eot Gifts as you can just exile key cards from the graveyard... Like the card that gives flashback to everything.
Edit: Have you gotten to get a Moth, Captain, and Prince on the field yet? Pretty much shuts down the opponent from casting spells for like 4 turns. Lol
Oh, that's a very good suggestion! Thanks
My SB is pretty light on GY hate anyways so this will be a nice addition. I'll replace 1 Auriok Champion with the Apostle.
So here's the current version:
You don't really use your graveyard. Wouldn't Relic be better than Lantern? That way you can exile the grave and draw the card. Lantern gets 1 card for sure, but then doesn't allow you to do both. Also if goyf is a concern the relic always makes him tiny.
Unfortunately I can't fit in a 3rd copy, I can't cut any more Humans.
I ended up cutting the Metamorph again because I missed the second copy of Sejiri Glacier. This deck really needs it's 23 lands.
Deck is still doing great as you can see in the attached file. Not counting the three draws (either I or my opponent had to leave) that's 10-2 during the last six days. Last match I just played was against Nassif's UW Old School list and it felt great to beat that deck.
Most won't try anything new until it gets pushed by someone of notoriety. Don't feel bad for it. It's just the follow the leader mentality that exists in the game. I've done very well with my home brews just like you are doing now.
Nearly won states with a Megatog deck. Then never seen it in a top decklist again. Birthed amulet titan then took about a year and a half until others started playing it. I was the only player playing Tarmogoyf for the first 4 months after it was printed. That deck got me 9th at Dallas regionals. It's actually very very good with Vexing Sphinx btw. I was playing Sphinx of the Chime in legacy dredge WAY WAY before anyone else noticed the infinite dredge and CA applications of it. I can go on, bit I'm sure you see the point.
Heck man even InspiringSpike has created a deck that pretty much puts up daily 5-0s and I don't see many people playing it. Video I watched he did back to back 5-0s and it's still not getting all that much play. BTW that deck uses a combo in the SB that I've been trying to get YouTubers to try for about 2 years now. Different build and style but same SB plan. Ugh
Yep, it's really sad that so many players choose the same lame decks. I played Jeskai Delver from 2013 until War of the Spark / Mordern Horizons (at that point the power creep became too strong for my beloved Delver). For several years I always had a positive record and I was always the only one playing that deck. At a Magic Card Market series tournament with over 300 players I want 6-2-1 with my Geists and Delvers and it felt great
I mean, you just need to watch the decks Meryn played during the last 2-3 months. So much good stuff! So many fun and competitive decks no one is playing.
Anyways, I am still playing the current build. Only change I did during last week was adding 1x Mark of Asylum to the SB. Saw it when Nassif played Stoneblade and I liked it instantly. Last twelve matches went pretty well (see attachement) so I am 23-5-1 now with this build. Maybe someone will read this and test the deck someday... If that happens I am really glad if that person can post some feedback here
Not much news to post here. Still trying to play at least one match a day.
Not counting any draws I am 31-8 now with the current deck so the win rate is 79%.
Any ideas what I could or should try out in the deck? A new SB tech? Add combo?
79% is totally straight. I'd love it if maybe you could get into a league at some point. If your wanting to get your work noticed that is one of the easiest and best ways. I dominated a pro player the night before a big PTQ to get one of my decks noticed. Lol. Look up PTQ Boston Domain if you want to see my boy Jeff take my creation to the big leagues. He was like it beat the gauntlet. Can I borrow it? Lol
Anyways. I'd like to see a blink effect in here just for fun. Either Blinky 3/1 (flying guy) or Ephimerate. Maybe as a 1 or 2 of. Seems good to get the Mystic, Prince, Appetition effect again.
Will Halvar, God of Battle (Sword of the Realms) be a good addition for this deck? I wouldn't know which of the other three equipments to cut for him. Since he's a creature too I could also add him in addition to the three equipments that are already in the deck.
It almost has to replace a creature, because its front face is Halvar. My understanding is that it is not an Equipment in your library, so Stoneforge Mystic cannot find it.
I guess you're right. In the library the card should only have it's front-side characteristics. Too bad. Being able to tutor up a reasonably priced equipment and/or a strong creature would have been great. But without being able to find the card with SFM I think it's just not good enough for the deck.
While the God card isn't that great as it can't be tutored with Stoneforge it is pretty great as a good bit of his dudes do have some nasty abilities. Thalia being 4/1 firststrike and vigilance would control the board very well. Apparition being a 4/2 with vigilance means you don't want to block it and kill it and you can't really afford to attack into it as it'll just get it's EtB trigger again... But the icing on the cake has to the Captain. Midish game when you get to 5 Mana he'll be able to sac to prevent any sorcery speed spell such as most sweepers and then get it back to cast and get another 1 drop from the deck. Continuously growing his position while making removal very hard to cast.
IDK if it'll make it into his final cut but doesn't really look that bad. Worst case scenario is it's still a beater when drawn after a sweeper or whatever.
Hi everyone,
hope you all had a very nice Christmas.
I am still playing my 1 or 2 matches daily to relax, mostly after work.
Here's the most current version:
I made a few minor adjustments, just to keep it fresh. Mana Tithe replaced one Sejiri Shelter.
So far I am very happy with this change. Elspeth, Knight-Errant replaced one Thalia's Lieutenant.
This one is pretty greedy and just for fun. I love Elspeth but--with a heavy heart--I'd switch her back to the Lieutenant for a bigger tournament. Rebuff the Wicked replaced Remorseful Cleric in the sideboard.
I almost never sided in the Cleric and Rebuff is pretty good since it not only protects my creatures but also my equipment.
With the current build (more or less) I am 61-16. 79% win rate in 77 matches.
I've played Jeskai Delver, Jeskai Geist, Jeskai Control and other decks for several years before I switched to mono white, but never with such good results. I mean, almost all of these matches are from tournament practice but still...
And yet not a single comment can be found on here from someone who actually gave this deck a try. But whatever, I'll continue having fun with it
Like I said it's probably not going to happen until a big YouTuber discovers it or until you put up a 5-0. Looking at your record it's not hard to believe that the deck is performing. Even about half your loses were with a game win. Meaning you even have game in those matchups. Maybe a different sideboard or a few tweaks here or there and maybe you'll be able to raise the win rate even higher. I'm sure at some point you'll play against a YouTuber and they'll get spanked and it'll get out there. While I understand that that is what you are wanting it also is good that you have this hidden gem that boasts such a great winning rate. Could maybe take it to an event when paper magic starts back up and take home the 1st place prize. It'll all work out in the end.
Have you put any thought in if you would play the spoiled God card?
Have you considered playing anymore Apparition? It is so strong. I was worried about the potential blow outs but the card has tested and played very well. Not really an occurrence that happens all that often.

So far I am absolutely loving it! For three mana and two life I can copy so many sweet targets!
Here's a "best of" list:
1. Batterskull (own or opponent's)
2. Omnath, Locus of Creation
3. Bedlam Reveler or Seasoned Pyromancer
4. Scourge of the Skyclaves or Tarmogoyf
However, FNM was great. Easy 2-0 against classic Boros Burn, easy 2-0 against Jund, frustrating 0-2 against Uro. Can't beat that **** card. Why isn't it banned yet!?
