Currently building my sideboard for Madrid this weekend, anyone playing a 2nd Worship? Am kind of tempted as its a slam dunk against Humans and decent elsewhere.
I don't like a second Worship because it's a good miser card. One reason is because if you beat someone in G2 with it, they are likely to side in some ways to destroy it in G3. That's much better for you because those types of naturalize effects are typically not good against Bant eldrazi. If I ever win a G2 with Worship, I usually just side it out. It's a 1-trick pony. Another reason is that it's bad in multiples. Obviously if you only have two main, you will rarely draw both. But it happens sometimes, and it sucks.
I too, did well this weekend in a team trios event. I split for first out of 14 other teams.
My match ups were as follows:
Match 1: Bant Knightfall Combo: I won my match up 2-0. my teammates lost the legacy and standard portion, so we lost the match.
Match 2: jeskai control: win 2-0 teammates also won there match ups giving us the win
Match 3: Esper shadow... four color shadow?: win 1-0-2. (weird way to win the match up, I know) Game 1: I saw a swamp, thoughtseize and and steam vents. he stumbled on land and I smashed him before seeing any other cards. based on what I saw, I took out two engineered explosives and put in two stubborn denials. Game 2: he went wide with lingering souls and sadness resolved within me after realizing he was on a death shadow variant. Game 3: I put Engineered Explosives back in my deck. went to time and I unquestionably would of won with one more turn. my match ended in a draw, the legacy portion of our team ended in a draw, and our standard player won his match up giving us the match win.
Match 4: Lanturn Control (apparently against a really famous guy who has won a pro tour...Tom Martell) Game 1: I lost as expected. Game 2: I beat him down Game 3: I didn't realize that tezzerat made permanent 5/5's. I thought it was only until end of turn. I had leyline on board so he wasn't able to just kill me with tezzerat's minus ability. He beat me up with a 5/5 Codex Shreder, and a 5/5 mishra's Bauble, and I gotta say, it was a first. I lost my match up 1-2. my team mates won their portion giving us the win.
Match 5: split into top 4, avoided playing Jund (probably could of won my match up.)
first round of top 4: Lost my match up 0-2 to grixus shadow. (favored match up, i know. sometimes variance just gets you) Team mates won their portion giving us yet another win.
Finals: we split, went home early. no idea what my modern opponent was on.
my final record was 2-1-2...if i count my draw as a win(as it would of been with one more turn, my record would of been 3-2. Not all that great.
I am currently looking to replace my Leyline of Sanctitys from my sideboard. I originally liked them because they are good against storm, burn, lanturn, and valakut. I really dislike the variance though. It makes Mulligan decisions really difficult. they are great in the opening hand, but if i don't have it in my exact opening 7, I usually don't want to see them. looking for replacements. Open for suggustions. the link below is my current list.
Also, I was very displeased with stony silence today and found myself questioning its importance in my sideboard. Often times, stony silence seems to hurt me in match ups where I need it. My primary way to destroy problematic artifacts and enchantments is engineered explosives. sometimes if i stony silence a Lanturn player, I can't engineered explosives and I have to lean back on my 1 of natural state to destroy bridge, and a second bridge is game over. same with ad nausium. If i stony silence, I cant engineered explosives their Pherexian Unlife. I may just be stuck in result orientated thinking though.
what does this community think? what are good replacements for Leyline of Sanctity in my list? and how important is stony silence for us when we are already favored against affinity (I am on 4 skyspawner, 3 EE mainboard.) see link above
Side note: I'm fairly happy with my mainboard as of now. (really been liking the 1 of Rhonas.) the changes I'm looking to make are only involving the sideboard. Also, I am willing to go back to 2 Rest in Peace. just trying to find the right balance so I don't auto lose to storm.... and valakut,)
Hey everyone, I just played a Team Trios event and I was the modern player with Bant Eldrazi. The event only had like 12 teams or so, but it was most of the good, high-level players of the area, so it was good practice. I ended up going 3-1. It was good practice for GP Santa Clara, which is coming up in less than a month. I plan on playing Bant Eldrazi there too. Here's my list:
My Rounds went as followed:
R1: Affinity 2-0
R2: Jeskai 2-1
R3: Storm 1-2
R4: Affinity 2-1
In my R3 matchup, I think I made a big play mistake that cost me the match. I had a Grafdigger's Cage and RiP in play, but I was scared of my opponent casting Gifts (which I knew he kept in postboard), so I kept leaving up Disdainful Stroke instead of casting Reality Smasher. I should have just cast the Reality Smasher ASAP to clock him, and let a Gifts resolve because I had the cage and RiP in play. In the end, I waited until I had 7 mana available to cast Reality Smasher and hold disdainful stroke up, and he was able to accumulate double grapeshot in hand and just finished me off with a bunch of rituals into double grapeshot.
But hey, now I know for Santa Clara.
As for the list, I think the mainboard was very solid. The Nissa, SoE was in there for fun, and I never casted it. The Thragtusk saved my skin vs Jeskai. I might cut Nissa for a second Thragtusk, as it's a good card against control, DS decks, and burn.
I have encountered a new terrible match up for us Bant Eldrazi fans. I played 7 games last night against Jund Rabblemaster with Moon in the sideboard, and lost every single game. All 7 games we played happened to be mainboard although I feel worse post board. Jund list for reference. https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-jund-40784#paper
I am totally lost as to how to sideboard for the match up. At a point in time, I felt favored over Jund. Rest in peace and Engineered Explosives on 2 usually put us far enough ahead. (also good on 3 if you have time to cast it, which i find i don't as Rabblemaster is very fast). In this version, rest in peace feels questionable (would not bring in all 3) worship feels bad as they have over 9000 removal spells, and discard. counter spells seem bad agaisnt discard. blessed alliance seems mediocre. leylines seem good, although I find Jund players usually board out inquisition, and for it to be great it has to be in opening hand. Also, i was trying to move away from leyline.
my list runs
23 lands no utility land.
4 of every eldrazi (4 skyspawner, no reshaper)
1 Bird
1 Rhonas
4 path
4 stirrings
3 Engineered Explosives.
my current sideboard has 4 flex spots.
I'm for the most part happy with the following
3 rest in peace
2 stony silence
1 grafdigger's cage
2 stubborn denial
1 disdainful stroke
1 flash freeze
1 natural state
my other 4 were
1 negate
1 worship (I was never all that happy with this card)
1 blessed alliance
grafdigger cage #2
after losing so terribly, I put the following in.
2 leyline of sanctity
1 thragtusk (recently added back to the deck after losing all those games)
1 blessed alliance
Thoughts, Suggestions?
any other cards i could add to the sideboard thats good for this match up and is decent elsewhere?
I considered 6 mana elspeth for the first time in a long time, but it likely wouldnt be castable due to Blood Moon.
My matches were as followed:
Storm 1-2: I mulled to 5 all 3 games. Game 3 I punted because he went for an empty the warrens for 8 goblins when I had a negate. I should have just negated one of the copies to stem the bleeding. I had mono-creatures in hand. I would have stabalized around 4 or 5 life if I had negated just one Warrens copies.
Ad Naus 0-2:
G1: On the play I went T2 TKS, T3 Smasher, T4 lose.
G2: On the play again, went T2 Stony Silence, T3 TKS, T4 Smasher, T5 lose.
This guy just drew the nuts every single game. It was kinda tilting considering I also drew the nuts, but his was just better.
Grixis Death Shadow 2-0:
Best possible matchup. I love watching GDS opponents squirm in their seat, trying to figure out how to win. Rolled both games.
Affinity 0-2(Ben Lundquist):
G1: I lose to a nut draw from affinity. Glint-Nest Crane proved to be a problem, because it finds another threat, can't be blocked by Spyspawner, and can't be blinked by Displacer.
G2: I get a big 3 for 1 with a t3 EE, and then land a displacer and a skyspawner. He is hellbent and topdecks a Galv blast, killing my displacer and putting me behind on board. Then he topdecks a Glint-Nest Crane, and I lose. Glint-Nest Crane was really good in this matchup.
At this point, I'm 1-3 but luckily my team is barely 2-2.
Affinity 2-0:
G1: On the play, assemble a quick displacer and skyspawner with like 9 mana available. Quick win.
G2: Basically the same as G1. Quick win
Jeskai 2-0:
G1: On the play with T1 Noble and 2 lands. Noble gets bolted, I get stuck on 2 lands. Ancient Stirrings misses. Luckily opponent has no pressure. Draw land 3 on like T5, I have mono-gas in hand and cavern in play, and win from there.
G2: Get ahead with double TKS, he stabilizes and drops Geist, I rip Drowner and get there.
Jund DS 2-1 (Clay Spicklemire):
G1: I lost to a TBR with no path in hand
G2: I play a RiP but he sets up a nice LotV which kills my smasher and gets us both hellbent. I topdeck a displacer and have 6 mana with his Lilly at 2. He kills Displacer with Lilly. I topdeck another displacer, and win in 2 turns.
G3: He keeps a 6 card hand on the play with Street Wraith, Fatal Push, IoK, Traverse, and no lands. Misses first two land drops. I just play a bunch of creatures and win.
GDS 2-0 (Daniel Fournier):
G1: He gets a fast start with double threat, and TBRs me down to 1 after I chump-blocked with a Skyspawner. I untap, sac sion for mana, play drowner with another in hand. He doesn't have burn spell so I play a second drowner and win.
G2: I play good creatures on curve and win. Again, this matchup is miserable for GDS.
In the last round, our team was 5-2 playing for day 2. Unfortunately our team loses and we wend 5-3 on the day, with my personal record 5-3. Bant Eldrazi was fine, but never really impressive. By SB felt good too, although next time I would opt for 1 more card to bring in against affinity because I had to leave a lot of crap cards in after board in that matchup. If we would see Death's Shadow decks every other round, I would absolutely suggest this deck. But that's not how modern is. Also with Eldrazi Tron on a downswing, I don't like this deck choice because it hurts losing one of our other good matchups. The Ad Naus matchup was somewhat tilting because I basically had my nutdraw both games, and it didn't matter. Maybe the powerlevel of Bant Eldrazi just isn't there anymore.
Gerry talking up the Bant Eldrazi on SCG-p site. Suggesting we might be strong in the new BBE era. His list looked basically like what I ran at States last year. I don't know if it's just what's old becoming new again, but I thought I'd check in here to see if there's been new advances on the archetype. The lsat few posts aren't necessarily encouraging. I've been every flavor of our favorite monsters since I felt like Bant fell off quickly about 10 months ago.
Ran the RG last night in a local and it felt pretty strong, went 3-1, but as stated above even with t3 TKS against AdNaus they're too redundant and the deck can't race it.
No, I don't think so. It's somewhat inconsistent and likely has a lot of matchups that swing hard one way or another. When it's working, it is an awesome deck and, with judicious mulligans, capable of t4-5 kill unhindered. But, that's not fast enough to be pure aggro and, at the least the BBE version, doesn't have enough late game.

I've played 2 online leagues with it so far and first went 3-2:
2-0 vs Storm, 2-0 vs. Jund, 2-0 vs. Serum Powder Eldrazi, 0-2 vs. GW Elves (a nightmare matchup) and 0-2 vs. 5C Humans.
And then managed to 5-0 on my second attempt:
2-1 vs. Mono-G Tron, 2-1 vs. Mono-G Tron, 2-0 vs. Mono-U Tron, 2-1 vs. RB Hollow One and 2-0 vs. Blue Moon.
Thalia has been great for me so far and I consider adding a 4th copy to the SB.
The sideboard can probably be improved, the PW's were intended for the grindy midrange match-ups with lots of creature removal but they maybe unnecessary and the slots might be better used for removal (or even sweepers). Fragmentize has been pretty good but might be better as Natural State for instant speed
(though it might be better in some corner cases against 4-cmc cards).
Took my beloved Bant Eldrazi to the GP Vegas and ended with a record of 10-4-1. Took 143rd place out of 2,779 players. Even though Bant Eldrazi hasn't been very popular, I still feel its a fine choice in the current meta. In case anybody is still reading this forum, I'll list what my match ups were at the GP.
Match 1: Bye (Enough Planeswalker points to qualify for 1 bye)
Match 2: Affinity (2-0) WIN ..... had Displacer Drowner lock both games
Match 3: Jeskai Control (2-1) WIN
Match 4: Jund (2-1) WIN
Match 5: Eldrazi Tron (2-1) WIN ...Very grindy games. Certain points of the game felt unwinnable. Back to back Drowner's got me there though. I was scared about getting a game loss in this round, as I got my decklist checked, and they didn't have a decklist on file for me. It was the first time I had ever registered my list online. Turns out I had submitted my decklist to the GP phoenix from a few months ago. Because i was able to show them a deck registration number that was emailed to me, it didn't result in a game loss.
Match 6: Ponza (2-1) WIN ...game one kept an opening hand with Noble Hierarch and Talisman of Progress. He ran a no bolt list so my noble lasted the whole game. talisman gave me colorless and blood moon was laughably bad in game one. game 3 he kept a turn 3 blood moon on the draw, which was just way to slow against bant eldrazi. I had multiple skyspawners out and pecked him to death.
Match 7: Hollow One (0-2) LOSE .....Kept an opening hand with 1 land (green mana,) 2 noble hierarchs, an ancient stirrings, eldrazi displacer, and some other things. He goes turn one Burning Inquiry. I draw three cards. Among them is an Eldrazi Temple. My hand now has 10 cards in it, and two lands. we discard the cards, and i look in horror as i see both my lands in the graveyard. I draw a card, and have to move to discard. I drew a land on my second turn, but damage was already done and i lost game one. I dont recall game 2 too well, but it was a swift loss.
Match 8: Blue Moon (1-1-1) DRAW ..... game two was really long. I could of conceded for time sake, but I had outs to his Platinum Emperion in 2 remaining path to exiles in my deck.
Match 9: Ponza (2-1) WIN.......My opponent was late to the first round in day 2 and recieved a game one game loss. he beat me game 2, and i got him game 3 resulting in a match win
Match 10: Jeskai Control (2-1) WIN.....Game three he took a mulligan to 5 and i took a mulligan to six, kept a hand of 2 Eldrazi temple, 2 stubborn denial, Misty Rainforest and Brushland. painfully scryed a cavern of souls to the bottom. I drew into eldrazi displacer and smasher. and my 2 stubborn denials hit a path targeting my reality smasher, which was a blow out, as he got two for one'd on a mulligan to 5. then i untapped and he cyrptic commanded into my other stubborn denial, and i swong for lethal.
Match 11: MonoGreen Tron (0-2) LOSE.... the game felt unwinnable. I had birds of paradise, displacer and cast a thought knot, revealing a hand of Oblivion stone, ugin, fog, fog. He had tron online and I had to choose Ugin, or he gets an opportunity to ultimate Ugin with the two fogs in hand. He wraths my board with oblivion stone, and I can never catch up. Game two he assembled tron turn 3 and his draws were just more powerful than mine.
The list I took to Vegas was almost identical to the list I used to top 8 SCG Regionals back in November of 2017. Only differences were a few sideboard cards.
This was my Exact 75 I took to Vegas http://mtgtop8.com/event?e=19101&d=320543&f=MO
Post GP Vegas, I have decided to take out both Leyline of Sanctity and my Flash freeze, and I replaced them with an additional Rest in Peace(3 total), an additional disdainful stroke(2 total), and a 1 of Blessed Alliance. My reasoning is because I felt the Flash Freeze was fairly narrow. I like the card against Green White Value town, elves, Druid combo, Scapeshift, Burn, Ponza, and Bant Knightfall or Bant company. I originally didn't like 2 Disdainful Strokes because I felt 2 was too narrow against control often only hitting cryptic command. The meta has changed a bit since the unbannings and I think I am just now starting to partially adapt to the new meta. The third rest in peace is for the prevalence of Mardu Pyromaster, Hollow One, and now that the KCI deck won GP Vegas, I figured I'd want the extra graveyard hate. Plus Bant Eldrazi has always been weak to combo. Most combos seem to use the graveyard some way or another.
Also, I wanted the cards to play a similar role to the cards I was removing. Leyline of Sanctity was to give me some cards to bring in against Scapeshift, Jund, Mardu Pyromaster, Storm and Burn, as i felt at a time they were all bad match ups at a time. However, after playing in GP Vegas, I think I struggled most with Mardu Pyromaster, Hollow one, Eldrazi Tron (Even though i won the match) and my Green tron match up felt awful. The 2nd disdainful stroke will help against Green Tron and Eldrazi tron (provided they don't have a cavern of souls. Which was also a reason i didn't like 2 Strokes in the board for a long time) The blessed alliance is to put back a card in my sideboard to mostly target burn. In taking out my Leyline of Sanctity, and my Flashfreeze, I lost 3 sideboard cards for burn, and I wanted to put something back in that slot. I used to run one main board Blessed Alliance and loved the card, but my list was very tight and I felt I didn't have room for it at some point in time. Plus blessed alliance is great against control. It Feels great to have a single card against control that can stop a colonnade, or cryptic. (make them sacrifice colonnade, and with cryptic, let them tap your team, then untap the two best creatures on your board with blessed alliance.)
The only thing I have been on the fence about has been my Natural States. Unsure if they should be Natures Claims to target exactly Hollow One and Krark-Clan Ironworks. My dilemma is that I don't want to change to Natures Claim and slightly improve those match ups, and in every other match up, i give my opponent a free 4 life when i otherwise don't need to with natural state. I am also very hesitant to play a 2 Mana enchantment removal card.
People seem to have a tendency to gravitate towards whatever Eldrazi is most popular at a given time. When Eldrazi Tron became popular, people would make comments all the time about how I should just change to the "Good Eldrazi list" ( referring to Eldrazi Tron). And I always thought it was such sheepish thinking. It felt as if one person made the comment about E-tron being strictly better based on popularity, and then everyone else seemed to make similar comments because they had heard it somewhere. I had the pleasure of playing an extremely over confident E-Tron player, who insisted his match up was favorable against Bant Eldrazi. After several games, he found himself reconsidering his thoughts on the match up (this is when i was playing 3 stony silence and 2 blessed alliance.)
To be honest, it's often time to my advantage to be playing such a solid deck that flies under the radar. There have been many times I watch players take out a sheet of notes for sideboard guide help, only to find they didn't prepare for facing Bant Eldrazi in the slightest. The result is they usually have to think back to over a year ago when the deck was prevalent and try and recall how to sideboard. Which often times is incorrect because they expect things like Matter Reshapers which I don't run in my list, and they don't anticipate 3 Engineered Explosives which are great in a lot of match ups.
As far as my tron match up is concerned, trading stubborn denial for negate seems to not provide much difference. I lose the ability to force spike a Karn on turn 3 with a single blue mana,(making it possible to be proactive while still leaving up counter magic) but relinquish the requirement of having to have Ferocious. Beast within seems like a reasonable thing to consider. I have also contemplated Detention Sphere, which seems like it would fill the same purpose as beast within. Also, I agree that damping sphere is a reasonable option for me to include in my list. Tron variants and Storm would be improved, but it leaves me thinking what other match ups would i bring the card in for?
As for Red Green Eldrazi, I'm a huge fan of thought knot, reality smasher, noble hierarch, and ancient Stirrings, I was pretty quick to try the list out. Prior to colorless being a thing and prior to Eldrazi, Red Green was my favorite color combination. I love ramping into big things and turning my team sideways. Part of me thought I was going to love Red Green Eldrazi. However, in comparison to Bant, it feels quite a bit weaker to me in the expected meta. Some of moderns most prevalent decks seem to be bad match ups, Affinity and Burn included. Also a 3/1 haste for 3 mana feels pretty bad most of the time in my experiance. It has its moments where it'll steal a Goyf or an opposing smasher or even an ulamog in tron, but so many times i cast it, i felt it was very underpowered in a modern format. It can be traded with things as weak as a memnite, as well as an elemental or spirit token.
Even though its been more popular as of late, I think its just due to number of players playing the deck, resulting in more decklists showing up online.
Last thing to comment on is Amulet of Safekeeping. I do not think this card will make it to my list because its not a reliant method of hexproof. the opponent can pay one, and still use there spells. also, it shuts out all the power of my 1/1 scions made from eldrazi skyspawner and drowner of hope.
In fact, M19 is potentially really damaging to us Eldrazi players because of the printing of Infernal Reckoning. My hope is that the card will be too narrow for people to use as a reasonable sideboard card.
PokemonTrainer, your list is very similar to mine in that the only mainboard differences being -1 bird of paradise, -1 engineered explosives, +2 matter reshaper. (I also noticed you are still on the two basic forest plan). I like having access to basic island against blood moon decks because its my most valuable basic against them. The birds of paradise could be cut for sure. I run it to increase consistency of turn one mana dork. I have played the third stony silence before and really found it useful against tron specifically. However, in running 3 explosives, I tend to run into the nonbow alot more with the third stony silence in the affinity match up. As you mentioned, Engineered Explosives against affinity is often just as crippling to Affinity players. What match ups do you bring in stony silence for besides Tron varients, Affinity, and now the new KCI deck? seems like three sideboard slots for those three decks may be a bit much? (especially considering I already feel favored against affinity. ..as for KCI, i have no idea, as i haven't had to play it yet)
Celestrial Purge seems reasonable in the meta right now. I'd be hesitant to take out my 1 mana disenchant effect to add in the two mana purge. I find Bant Eldrazi wants to be as proactive as possible and having to leave up two mana anticipating a blood moon often puts us significantly behind. although I do agree it has multiple targets in the modern meta, and its ability to destroy black creatures seems relevant. By the time I got around to replying, it seems like beast within has been the new card being tested. i'd be interested to hear how it performs.
Cpais87, I am always appreciative to having new cards brought to my attention. I wasn't trying to say the new Amulet card you mentioned was bad. I see it's appeal against certain decks like storm where they have to pay one with each copy of grapeshot they use to target you. It resembles the grapeshot smasher interaction. They can target the smasher with it, but unless they want to discard 5 cards, they will just let Smasher stay on the battle field. i do agree with you that i'd play damping sphere before the new amulet though.
I realized I never commented on playing against Search for Azcanta. In Blue White control lists, it seems a bit easier to handle, as engineered explosives is decent against them. hits spreading seas, detention sphere, and an unflipped Search for Azcanta. In Jeskai, its not as easy because EE comes out. I usually decide to not board in enchantment hate of any sort for the card. Back when i ran ghost quarter, I really enjoyed the card. However i have noticed my mana feels significantly better ever since i changed it out for a 3rd Yavimaya Coast. As it sounds like you are on the Beast Within plan, it seems you have a potential answer to it now.
Hey all, been lurking a while but I've been putting in some work on this deck. While we have lost access to some favorable match ups, I think we can retool the deck and update it. The older lists are not working and they haven't worked for me on mtgo for quite some time. That said, I took a page from the GR eldrazi deck and added +3 Boreal Druid to the list. After goint 3-0 in the practice modes, I quickly started to notice that T3 was consistently giving a TKS/Smasher/ or Drowner. It felt like the deck was accelerating faster and pressuring opponents better. The current meta sees 2 decks that Bant Eldrazi should be poised to beat:
KCI and Tron. TKS + Displacer can lock out both of decks and the SB is very good against both decks.
The Mardu Pyromancer match up is close, but I,m starting to lean towards it being even. Boreal Druid helps a lot against Bloodmoon. It also dodges our own EE on 2. I have been running 2 EE in the main and it's felt fine, I can see a world where 3x EE is correct but for now this is my starting point:
The Iffy cards in my SB are the number of Negate's and Grafdigger's Cage. It seems like Rip is the better card and Storm is currently on a massive down swing (Cage does stop Mardu's efficiency, and can be found off of Stirrings so I think it's fine for now). I feel like Disdainful Stroke is good against Tron but I'd rather have a hard counter for Blood Moon in G2-3.
Worship, I mean, I don't even know if this is good enough anymore. The last top 8 while diverse didn't have a ton of combat involved (finals was a Outlier), but is good in the meta? Can this be something better? I'm not sure. There decks that stone cold die to this, but of the ones I can think of, they aren't fully represented in the meta. Maybe it's just a silver bullet. Not sure.
This is my starting point, so, hopefully Bant Eldrazi can gain some traction.
I've never actually tried the boreal Druid, but it has been on my radar as a potential inclusion to our deck.
I have also never tried a total of seven 1 drop mana dorks. I would be interested to hear your thoughts on it after playing it a bit more.
It would appear you are referencing the red green eldrazi list that took 7th place at GP São Paulo.
It continues to perplex me how many Red Green Eldrazi decks put up results in big events, while bant puts up none. My assumption is that there are significantly more players running the Red Green version...Because of the results, it offers players more confidence in making the choice of Red Green over Bant.
Has anybody else here on this forum tried the red green list? I did myself, and it just felt like a worse version of bant to me.
Thoughts?
As for your list racerxen, it looks like your indecisive on negate vs stubborn denial. I prefer stubborn denial because there are plenty of times you can force spike a spell early in the game,(blood moon included) and mid to late game I find I usually have ferocious active. Also, negate can be too slow sometimes in stopping blood moon. Take ponza for example. If you are on the draw, they can have a blood moon cast on their turn 2. In which case you'd only have access to 1 mana, unable to cast negate.
Really it comes down to personal preference on which one is better for your list, but those are my reasons for liking stubborn denial better. I think the 2 disdainful stokes over the 4th and 5th negate effect would serve you well.
I'd also consider some naturalize effects. I'm unsure which one I prefer right now (naturize, natural state, natures claim) the 1 mana destroy enchantment effects are great against blood moon and misc troublesome cards like ensnaring bridge.
Worship for me has been too narrow for me to justify in my list at this point in time. Also, I have never really loved the card, even though some decks can't beat it.
I've always ran 2 grafdiggers cage but it feels pretty narrow as well. Especially with me recently putting a 3rd Rest In Peace in my list maybe I should consider going down to 1 cage. (In general, I really dislike 1 of's in the sideboard because they feel really unlikely to draw them when they are needed, but maybe it's reasonable given ancient Stirrings can find it.) I think I'd really only miss it in the G/W value town deck and vizir combo deck. Possibly in storm as well, but the 3rd Rest In Peace can fill that void. We lose in the elves match up no matter what, cage or no cage, so that feels irrelevant.
I have been testing the new Karn from dominaria and have felt he has been good so far. I have been struggling in the blue white control match up recently and wanted some help in the match up. Karn can be like our taferi, as he draws us an extra card a turn. Not completely sold on him yet, but still in testing
Happy to report that my first friendly league with this version was a 4-1 record. While I put the training wheels on (friendly league lol) I needed to make sure the deck had legs before burning play points in the competitive league. Results:
2-0 Win vs Eldtrich Evo Combo
2-0 Vs Hardened Scales Affinity
2-0 Vs Boogles
0-2 Loss to Jeskai Control (bad Mulligans and some unlucky draws, maybe this match up got worse but G2 I couldn't find a U for my triple Negate's )
2-0 Vs Win Vs Blue Moon, don't ask how but my Boreal Druid's and Eldrazi Skyspawner tokens let me keep casting Smashers.
This is very promising. This is still a first draft, but I'm very happy to see the deck perform the way it did. In the practice modes I went 4-2. So, overall am 8-3. Not bad.
As for my counter suite, I'm hot and cold on Negate, when it's good, it's really good. when I don't have blue mana, it's bad and sets me back. One thing I like about having Negate is that I can put dorks out and develop my mana T1-2 and hold up permission. That's something I wasn't able to do before. The added benefit of Stubborn being live after countering a relevant spell, even if I'm casting it off curves threw a lot of players off.

5-0 Bant Eldrazi list from the Competitive league:
KILLERFISH (5-0)
This is more of the classic list, but uses 2 Talisman to beat Blood Moon. Funny how those of us that are still working on this deck are finding different angle to dampen the effects of this card. I have never been a fan of Matter Reshaper in this deck but it does give the deck more resiliency to removal.
Of Note: No Grafdigger's Cage and the extra Engineered Explosives a lot of lists have in the Sb has been cut. Dampening Sphere is a great answer to tron, Storm, and combo in general. I ran 2 last night, swapping out the cages at the last minute.
Hello everyone!
This is my first post here, and I wanted to share my experience with you. I went to play GP Sao Paulo last weekend and I took Bant Eldrazi to it. It was my first GP and I ended up 11-4 finishing 56 amongst over 1400 players. I am very happy about it!!
I think the deck right now is in a great spot (meta-wise) and on top of that it is so much fun to play (except to stupid prison decks -.-)
When crafting the list I expected to run into TRON KCI and HUMANS mostly. So with my brother who happens to be also my teammate and has been playing TRON forever we tech'd the deck so that it has a chance against oblivion stone on G1. We came up with the idea of playing Archangel Avacyn - indestructibilty was key, and then having the ability to sac tokens to make her turn around was also a cool interaction agaisnt go-wide decks (Double white is not so tough to pay agains decks that wont kill your mana dorks).
The second piece of tech we brought in was worship mainbord, as a one of (YES- I know, against some match ups it is a horrible draw, but I took the risk). Humans and grixis decks have few to none answers to it, so we gave it a try too. After testing we saw it works like a charm.
And the last change we made to the stock list was playing Aether Hub instead of Pain-lands to help prevent the life loss against burn and in aggro match ups.
As a personal call I decided to play more basic lands because losing to blood moon feels awful and I knew I'd face several paths to exile and fields of ruin
So, here is the list (I'm kinda new and I don't know how to post it the fancy way, sorry!) and below I have detailed my match ups. I am more than open to suggestions and I really hope you enjoy the read!
R1 G/W HEXPROOF 1-0
Beatdown showdown.
Luckily for me on G2 ang G3 he didn't draw a single Coronet.
G1 He came out too strong and killed me t5
G2 He mulled to 5 and I reality smash him on t3, he can't race it
G3 He mulled to 6 and kept a hand with 3 creatures, I go double noble into smasher on t3 again. He just can't race against the 7/7 trampler.
R2 VIZIER CHORD 1-1
God please no.
If anyone has any tips on how to navigate this match up please let me know!!
G1 She mulled to 5, I controlled her with two TKS taking away devoted druid and a chord, and pathing another druid she played, left her at 1 and she topdecked chord for the infinite ballista kill.
G2 She mulled to 5 again, this time without any lucky top-decks, I had a RiP on the field and nothing went out of control. I got there before she could combo me.
G3 She doesn't mull, her hand had the three pieces of the combo and before I could do anything (which is her t3) I get an enormous walking ballista to the face.
R3 HUMANS 2-1
This is what I had the deck tuned for.
G1 He doesn't have an answer to worship main-board
G2 He overpowers me, with double parish and lieutenant for the kill on T4
G3 I manage to stall the board until I get to lock him with drowner of hope and displacer. He wasn't aware of the interaction. When I blinked drowner for the first time he re-read the card and immediately conceded.
R4 VALAKUT 3-1
My lands are better than yours.
G1 I won dice roll and TKS him on t2 to see a hand with 5 lands and a titan. Stripe the titan out and smash him before he can do anything else.
G2 Kept a disdainful stroke in the opening, counter his t4 titan, he scapeshifts on t5 but has to kill my creatures because he can't valakut me to the face (I was at 20 thanks to the HUBS ) and he ran out of gas. (Playing hubs instead of pain lands was crucial here)
R5 JESKAI CONTROL 4-1
Cavern - name eldrazi - GG
G1 I won the dice roll for a cavern into temple, playing displacer t2 and tks turn 3, managed to lock him out of removal and sweepers.
G2 He played a geist on t3 trying to race me but wasn't quickly enough.
After the game he mentioned he had only been playing for a couple of months and had no idea such a deck existed
R6 MONO-RED PRISON 4-2
I wasn't expecting this at all.
G1 I mull down to 5 and he plays Chandra, ToD on t2 with ritual and SSG, into bridge t3 and Blood Moon t4- I can't get back into game before chandra ults and roasts me to death.
G2 He mulls to 5 this time but cant find Chandra, he plays both bridge and moon but doesn't pressure me, two stirrings allow me to find EE and the basic island for the 3rd color, I crack the EE end of his turn and swing for lethal.
G3 He draws nuts, playing Chalice on t1 with a SSG, sorcerous spyglass on t2 (naming EE) and moon on t3, he finds Chandra on t5 or t6 but there's not much I can do to get out of the lock.
R7 HUMANS 5-2
Another victim.
G1 Didn't know what he was playing, took a leap of faith, and kept a hand with Path x 2 and Worship. Once I see his land drop naming humans I sigh in relief. He manages to take out Worship with freebooter on t4 or 5 and swings for a bunch leaving me at 1 but with path EoT I get it back and he can't kill me through it.
G2 Was pretty similar to the game on third round, I swept the board with EE on 2 and then manage to lock him out with Displacer and Drowner.
R8 STOMPY 6-2
Yet another victim.
G1 He wins dice roll and mulls to 5. His first creature is a turn 2 Avatar of the resolute but he has more in hand. I manage to stall the table but a vault skirge kept taking chunks of life, one turn before completing the lock with a displacer I make a horrible mistake and let the flier hit me I had a BoP to block (I was at 4 life) - he aspects of hydra for the win.
G2 He comes out too strong and a worship from the topdeck saves me to the scream of - QUI PORRA I ESSA! (wtf is that??) he didn't sideboard any enchantment hate.
G3 I play spellskite on t2 and stop his aggressiveness significantly. He decides to go wide, but Avacyn sweeps the board and he can't get back into game, so I make it into day 2.
R9 VALAKUT 7-2
Good morning.
G1 He keeps a really bad hand after mulling to 6 and TKS t2 is too strong for it.
G2 Similar thing happens, but he manages to Summoner's Pact for a titan and kill a displacer and a skyspawner with Valakut's triggers. He didn't search for a fourth green source, so, after paying for the pact on the following turn he couldn't cast scapeshift and died to a smasher from the topdeck.
R10 VIZIER CHORD 7-3
God no, why again?
G1 I go TKS turn 2 and take devoted from his hand (he had infinite mana combo in hand). He proceeds to flood the board with fliers and Shalai to protect them. I manage to chump-block and displace my skyspawners for several turns but he plays a Rhonas whose activated ability messes with my chump-blocking, I make a bad call and swing with everything trying to force a mistake, he blocks correctly and kills me on the swing back. It is likely that I would had died the turn after if I hadn't attacked.
G2 I begin with cage on t1 and he goes viscera seer, vizier, kitchen on t1-2-3 and on t4 he reclamation sages my cage. I concede on the spot.
R11 HUMANS 7-4
Aether hubs would backfire eventually.
G1 I manage to play worship on t3 with a noble and a scion with a hub generating green on t1 and a cavern naming eldrazi, but I never draw the third land, with a hand full of creatures, he bounces both my creatures with reflectors and kills me trough the enchantment.
G2 I play a t3 smasher and ran him over, he flooded.
G3 I get color screwed again and he kills me with a not so good hand. (Stupid aehter hubs)
R12 TEMURSHIFT 8-4
Beast within into scapeshift - Just beautiful.
G1 I play two life saving TKSs to take spells out of his hand right before he could cast them, it gave me the game. Spells were C COMMAND AND SCAPESHIFT.
G2 I kept a hand with both disdainful stroke and beast within, he baits my DStroke with a JTMS and proceeds to scapeshift on the following turn. I beast within one of the mountains (this is a super neat interaction, look it up if you are unaware of it), the spells fizzles and he is left with only top decks, he drew a C COMMAND and a Snap Caster but eventually died to the creatures I had on the field.
R13 MARDU PYROMANCER 9-4
Mardu player, meet Reality Smasher. Reality smasher, smash.
This guy had no idea what my deck did and it cost him both games. Reality Smasher is an insanely good card against this deck on top of that.
G1 I go Displacer t2 into Drowner t3, he let me blink the drowner once before killing the displacer, I generate several tokens and then a smasher swings for lethal after I tap his blockers.
G2 I do Displacer into Smasher this time. Being at 4 he blocks the smasher with 2 tokens, I blink one of the tokens and he looks at me in disbelief -oh, I forgot about that.
R14 ELDRAZI AND TAXES (B&W) 10-4
Mana dorks > Aether vial
G1 I casted worship before he could take it out of my hand and he had no answers to it. I would have died to a smasher the following turn.
G2 He kept a greedy hand and didn't draw the third land. I went tk2 t2 into (I believe, can't recall exactly) a Smasher t3. He can't get back into game by the time he draws the land.
R15 GRIXIS SHADOW (CONTROL? - Never saw a Shadow) 11-4
No path to exile? - No problem
The deck is really powerful against path to exile-less versions of control
G1 I have two caverns in play he mulls to 6 and floods. He simply can't answer the aggro facet of the deck.
G2 He boards in lots of removal apparently and kills mana dorks and small eldrazis left and right but he fails to pressure me. His first threat is a Gurmag on t4 or 5. I draw beautifully playing smasher into drowner of hope and he has to concede.
Overall I feel the deck is quite strong against decks that commit to the table. I was lucky enough to get paired against several of them. Worship was an ALL-STAR on most match ups. I was sad I didn't run into any TRONs or KCIs, I had stony silences and damping spheres ready for them.
On paper THRAGTUSK feels awesome (Displacing him forever sounds insane xD) but in the matches I boarded him in, he didn't show up. I am still torn between Aether Hubs and Pain-lands and I didn't play against burn to test it out.
Then, Ancient Stirrings and Eldrazi Temples are just plain broken. Stirrings make any one lander hand keepable if you have a mana dork, and then temple paying for abilities enables super unfair turns with displacers.
So, overall that was my experience last weekend! Hope you enjoyed the read and thanks for going trough it!
Uooow, I can't believe I found you! hahah I was at the GP Sao Paulo too, and I knew I had a player on day2 with the deck I love the most, Bant Eldrazi *-* First of all, are you Brazilian? I am.

Yeah I ran this list a few times.
http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/gw-eldrazi-evolution-/
It's a lot of fun. Evolution is a blast to play with but of course sometimes it really sucks too
I don't like a second Worship because it's a good miser card.

(weird way to win the match up, I know)
Game 1: I saw a swamp, thoughtseize and and steam vents. he stumbled on land and I smashed him before seeing any other cards. based on what I saw, I took out two engineered explosives and put in two stubborn denials.
Match 4: Lanturn Control (apparently against a really famous guy who has won a pro tour...Tom Martell)
Game 1: I lost as expected.
Game 2: I beat him down
Game 3: I didn't realize that tezzerat made permanent 5/5's.
Open for suggustions. the link below is my current list.
http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/26-12-16-OEE-bant-eldrazi/

23 lands (Horizon Canopy as the utility land)
4 Noble
1 Bop
4 Displacer
4 TKS
4 Smasher
4 Drowner
3 Matter Reshaper
3 Skyspawner
4 Ancient Stirrings
4 Path
2 EE
SB:
2 Grafdigger's Cage
2 RiP
2 Stony
2 Disdainful Stroke
2 negate
1 Stubbs
1 Reclamation Sage
1 Worship
1 EE
1 Thragtusk
Affinity 0-2(Ben Lundquist):
Ran the RG last night in a local and it felt pretty strong, went 3-1, but as stated above even with t3 TKS against AdNaus they're too redundant and the deck can't race it.
So I look back to Bant, my old friend. The newer list eschewing Path for Thalia is super threat dense.
https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/975361#paper
The sideboard is what has me flummoxed. Are the bad matchups fixed as simply as 4x GY hate, 3x Artifact Hate, 4x Blow it up, 4x counter it.
lol it's kinda genius.
I like the maindeck Thalia but don't think that dropping the Path is correct, the SB is rather weak (and lazy) imho.
I've personally dropped blue altogether as I don't find it particularly good right now and went straight GW which makes the mana slightly better and lets me play more utility lands like: Gavony Township, Field of Ruin, Sea Gate Wreckage, Hashep Oasis and even a Wastes (which I can get with Field).
I also like Endbringer over Drowner of Hope.
Here is my list:
4x Noble Hierarch
3x Thalia, Guardian of Thraben
4x Matter Reshaper
4x Eldrazi Displacer
1x Tireless Tracker
4x Thought-Knot Seer
4x Reality Smasher
1x Thragtusk
3x Endbringer
Sorcery (4)
4x Ancient Stirrings
Instant (4)
4x Path to Exile
4x Eldrazi Temple
4x Brushland
4x Windswept Heath
2x Temple Garden
2x Hashep Oasis
2x Field of Ruin
1x Sea Gate Wreckage
1x Gavony Township
2x Forest
1x Wastes
1x Plains
2x Ratchet Bomb
1x Pithing Needle
2x Fragmentize
2x Rest in Peace
2x Stony Silence
2x Tireless Tracker
2x Kitchen Finks
1x Nissa, Vital Force
1x Gideon Jura
The sideboard can probably be improved, the PW's were intended for the grindy midrange match-ups with lots of creature removal but they maybe unnecessary and the slots might be better used for removal (or even sweepers).
Fragmentize has been pretty good but might be better as Natural State for instant speed
(though it might be better in some corner cases against 4-cmc cards).
Match 12:Blue White Ctrl (1-2) LOSE
Match 13: Mardu Pyromaster (1-2) LOSE
Match 14: Blue White Ctrl (2-0) WIN
Match 15: Jund (2-0) WIN
This was my Exact 75 I took to Vegas
http://mtgtop8.com/event?e=19101&d=320543&f=MO
My list going forward is as follows
http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/26-12-16-OEE-bant-eldrazi/?cb=1529484809
The only thing I have been on the fence about has been my Natural States. Unsure if they should be Natures Claims to target exactly Hollow One and Krark-Clan Ironworks. My dilemma is that I don't want to change to Natures Claim and slightly improve those match ups, and in every other match up, i give my opponent a free 4 life when i otherwise don't need to with natural state. I am also very hesitant to play a 2 Mana enchantment removal card.
3 Boreal Druid
4 Noble Hierarch
4 Eldrazi Skyspawner
4 Eldrazi Displacer
4 Thought-Knot Seer
4 Reality Smasher
4 Drowner of Hope
Spells (8)
4 Ancient Stirrings
4 Path to Exile
Artifact (2)
2 Engineered Explosives
1 Forest
1 Plains
4 Eldrazi Temple
3 Brushland
3 Yavimaya Coast
3 Cavern of Souls
1 Ghost Quarter
1 Hallowed Fountain
1 Temple Garden
1 Breeding Pool
4 Windswept Heath
2 Grafdigger's Cage
3 Rest in Peace
3 Stony Silence
2 Stubborn Denial
3 Negate
1 Worship
1 Engineered Explosives
Modern: Decks I'm playing right now:
G Mono Green Tron (34-10-3 paper record, only SCG/Regionals/PPTQ record)
C Eldrazi Tron (9-5)
UG Infect
RW Burn
Updated:
5-0 Bant Eldrazi list from the Competitive league:
KILLERFISH (5-0)
4 Drowner of Hope
4 Eldrazi Displacer
3 Eldrazi Skyspawner
3 Matter Reshaper
4 Noble Hierarch
4 Reality Smasher
4 Thought-Knot Seer

3 Brushland
3 Cavern of Souls
4 Eldrazi Temple

1 Temple Garden
4 Windswept Heath
3 Yavimaya Coast
2 Blessed Alliance
2 Damping Sphere
2 Natural State
2 Rest in Peace
2 Stony Silence
3 Stubborn Denial
1 Worship
This is more of the classic list, but uses 2 Talisman to beat Blood Moon. Funny how those of us that are still working on this deck are finding different angle to dampen the effects of this card. I have never been a fan of Matter Reshaper in this deck but it does give the deck more resiliency to removal.
Of Note: No Grafdigger's Cage and the extra Engineered Explosives a lot of lists have in the Sb has been cut. Dampening Sphere is a great answer to tron, Storm, and combo in general. I ran 2 last night, swapping out the cages at the last minute.
Modern: Decks I'm playing right now:
G Mono Green Tron (34-10-3 paper record, only SCG/Regionals/PPTQ record)
C Eldrazi Tron (9-5)
