New List. Cut Fauna Shamans to avoid getting hit by Splash hate and added more actual hate. Specifically Thrun because UWR literally has no way to deal with it. Looking to squeeze in another Teeg and Finks to the SB.

I am a fan of your list. Though I'd probably main deck some amount of spellskite, since he is the best hatebears in the format as
Of now, and is really good vs UWR. You don't need 4 RIP in the sideboard (as I say this as a death and taxes player! I know! Blasphemy!) also, for artifact hate you'll want 2 or even three kataki. He's that good.

I am also deciding whether to play GW DnT or Maverick and I tend much more to Maverick. I believe it is better-positioned in the current meta than Death and Taxes.
In a format full of Lightning Bolt, D&T doesn't have big enough guys. It also lacks clock. If you wanna play White critters, go with G/W
Here is the decklist I am testing for the ptq in columbus on the 23rd. Any input or advice would be greatly apreciated as this is my first dip into modern.

What do you mean by splash hate for fauna shaman? Your mindcensors? Would playing more deathrite shaman over bop be better without fauna shaman? Since deathrite its likely a better top deck that provides reach.

The splash hate like Shadow of Doubt/Mindsensors that are meant for Pod and Scapeshift. The latest list has hate for UWR, Jund, Pod, and Scapeshift mainboard, which are four of the more popular decks. I might try to find room for a dismember since it's so good vs the Twin decks.

Holy cow Batman! That's a lot of mana birds! Right off the bat, I'd trim 1 Noble Hierarch for 1 Thalia. Yes, you play non-creatures. However, most decks in the format play far more non-creatures than creatures. Thalia punishes every other deck in the format. Play her. A lot.
MD Teeg? If your local meta is all Pod and Scapeshift, then go for it. Otherwise, cut him for cards with bigger board presence.

This is an actually good deck. Death an taxes is a bastardized version of what it is in legacy, and is a pretty terrible deck (in modern, it's the best legacy deck IMO) death and taxes in modern cant keep up with the card advantage of jund, all of its creatures die to a well placed pyroclasm, there is no Mother of Runes to protect the most important hatebears (arbiter and Thalia), and because of lack of mom, they cannot play the best hatebear ever printed Phyrexian Revoker. Play this deck, it can actually win

Cutting Fauna Shaman because other decks are playing slightly more Aven Mindcensor and Shadow of Doubt is fallacious idea. Those cards really aren't that good against you, and only doing anything if you actually have Shaman in play. Shaman reduces the variance and increases consistency by being able to find your bullet cards. Why play 2 Gaddock Teeg when you can play just 1 and have virtually 5 copies?
Thrun, the Last Troll is a good addition to the deck. I'm in the middle of preparing for a gauntlet of 5 PTQs in 4 weeks, and it has been testing very well post-bans. Be prepared for lots of Twin, Shift, and Pod. I'm liking a Thragtusk and a Kitchen Finks in the board against R/b right now.
My question still stands though, is there any reason to not run more deathrite shaman over bop?

There are actually two reasons, and those are consistency and evasion.
My list only runs 5 fetches, so I'm not consistently putting land in the yard on turn one, and a turn 2 power play is really important.
BoP's flying isn't irrelevant, offensively or defensively.
DRS provides more reach, and he's a better topdeck than BoP. Most people will likely consider these factors to outweigh the benefits to BoP. I still think either is a valid option.
I have tried the modern version lots of times. It's a bad deck.
The legacy version is great because it can protect its hatebears.
Inconsistency I think is the real problem. DnT can definitely win and can lock out games quickly it also has favorable matchups against some of the popular decks in the meta (tron and scapeshift). The problem I have with the deck is that it's mostly taxes and not a whole lot of death. If the taxes plan never materializes or falls apart you pretty much lose. Although I've found playing hero of bladehold helps go over the top in some situations.

Yeah that's valid, I was just wondering if it's been tried since a lot of people have been hyping how good deathrite is. I could see birds being a decent attacker with township and liege out. I'd also like to explore playing some type of sword in the deck to give the birds more utility if you don't happen to have fauna shaman online to pitch it.

How does this deck do against twin is the plan just to kill them before they get it or hold path and hope it doesn't get countered?

As per Kibler's explanation for going with DRS over BoP since the Jund Nerf is that Electrolyze is a real card again for American players and DRS is out of reach and does not allow them to 2 for 1 us i.e. getting both BoP and NH with 1 Electro. For Twin we have main deck Linvala's, Teeg's, PtE's and Dissmember's, SB option includes Torpor Orb and Zealous Persecution.
