Melira Pod is slowly disappearing from my meta, and I am seeing a rise in "fair" decks. Jund, The Rock, Death and Taxes, Zoo, Merfolk, Scapeshift, and UWR are hard to lose to, especially with my 4 mainboard Auriok Champions that don't die (almost all removal are in Red and Black).
What should I side in against Pod? I see some lists with like 3 RiP, 2 Suppression Field, 3 Stony Silence, is there even room to side in 8 Enchantments? And Sundering Growth?
Best would be the RIP and Suppression Fields. Once you shut off the combo they become a straight beatdown deck, a fairly powerful straight beatdown deck. For most you need to be able to stop a Sigarda, Host of Herons and Kitchen Finks.
Edit: Somebody moved the thread and now I can't post on it, only edit my older comments.
Can one of the mods please fix this.
Angel of Jubilation isn't bad against Melira pod, but like you said it comes down on t4 when they want to combo out on t4. There is also the issue of only slowing down Kiki-Pod and Splinter Twin. With only 15 Sideboard slots you really want things that can be a silver bullet against a lot of things. Suppression Field is absolutely amazing against nearly every deck in the format, including pod. Stony Silence stops pod activations just as well as Angel, but it also hoses all kinds of Tron and Affinity.
I like the Day of Judgement in the side, I'm definitely considering running a copy or 2 in my board to help against decks that can just field out a huge amount of creatures. A playset of Paths just doesn't seem enough and Bogle decks just ignore them

Hey guys, brand new modern player, just played my first tournament last night with my SS deck, had a .500 win rate so I was just short of top 4 due to a draw in my last match.
A card I am convinced I'm going to run in the future as soon as I find the funds (and the playset!) is Auriok Champion That card seemed to be everything my deck was needing that night. I never actually saw Pyroclasm or electrolyze but I feared them so many times that night because I knew they would 3 for 1 me.
Many times I found myself with a 4/4 Ajani's pridemate sitting on board on chump duty because my Soul Warden/Soul's attendant got picked off by burn or removal in response. Auriok Champion has pro red and black making extremely resilient to removal. Another sweet thing I discovered is that by playing that card, now I can change out my proclamation of Rebirth with immortal servitude and if I drop it for 1, I can hit 4, 5, maybe even six guys in my yard rather than 3, or if i drop it for 2, I can bring back the Champions, A few squadron hawks, and my pridemates, that sounds sweet to me.
Another off the wall guy I'm running right now is a one of Mikaeus, the lunarch he is amazing for me, I love dropping my squadron hawks and then if I dont have an honor of the pure out, I can play ranger and BAM, he's a fetchable "honor" for my whole team.
But tht's all I'm gonna say for now, I'd love to see the feedback Hope my random ideas helped.
I absolutely agree on Mikaeus, he's a great lategame target for ranger when youre running out of steam. Not really sold on the champions though. Any insights from the tournament? Which matchups did you face?
Well it was my first tournament for modern and my match-ups looked like U/R Delver/Faires? (Never seen anything like it.) Orzhov Bleeder and Domain Zoo, too which I went 1-2, 2-0, and 1-1-1 respectively.
First match was just turn one Delver (which flipped next turn) lots of counter, lots of burn. I could barely stick anything, it either made it to the board to get burned or got sent straight to the bin via counter. My SS and Pride-mate combo never got going due to burn in response to pick one off. and eventually I died to flyers that were bigger than mine since I couldn't find an honor. Games two and three where basically the same.
The orzhov deck was basically a standard BW zombie recursion deck with modern cards added. grave crawlers, blood artist, cartel aristocrat, ect ect. Surprisingly he didn't run any removal or disruption whatsoever. Game one an oversized pridemate smashed in for the win, game two I boarded in Rest in peace and the guy was dead in the water due to it shutting off half is deck.
The Domain Zoo wasn't much to brag about, game one he picked off all my guys with Path to Exile, Lightning Bolts, Lightening Helix, and got rid of everything that mattered. Then slapped a Geist (I have a bittersweet hate for that card) and went all the way.
G2 I got the God Draw with turn one ascendant turn two martyr to swing in 6 lifelink and smash his face down too 11 and put me at 38, two too. He quickly scooped up his cards.
G3 We were even, his removal was spread thin, I used mine where it counted, and I kept my life total high, eventually the game went to time.
Afterwards I was contemplating all the times I had lethal, but with dudes in the way, and how Brave the Elements would have let me get in for BIG damage.
Also I contemplated picking up a Hero of Bladehold.
Of course I wanted the Champions after my sisters where getting zapped all day.
and I made a checklist of things I need to fine tune the deck, and eventually packed it up and went home since I was just short of Top 4
Ninja Edit: The U/R deck was actually a standard delver deck, that contained faeries, upon further research into the format I discovered that lol.
Disenchant might want to get bumped up to more than 1 in the SB. I've been having a lot of people pull out Leyline of Punishment against me, and it is really getting annoying without enough disenchants! Even come up against some Worships being played which really needs the disenchant sideboard as well.
I'm new to modern and I would like to play this deck for a sentimental reason because Martyr of sands and proclamation of rebirth was the deck with which I started to play T2.
My started list was the one played by Tim Muller. 1st in PTQ Dragon's Maze in Portland OR (Feb-2013)
But after some tests with my friends I don't like it very much because:
3 Path to Exile is very bad and I don't understand the reason to don't play the 4th.
Windbrish Heights is very usefull sometimes but very bad if I think that:
The averege mana cost of the deck is very low so it's not a good mana trick to use and if your land blow away from ghost quarter or edge the exiled card is lost forever.
In my metagame land destruction is a must have.
May someone explain me the reason to play spectral procession? Yes it's very good if you have 2 life gain creatures or ajani and a life gain but I don't find 3 spirit 1/1 in game usefull especially if I think to not play Heights.
Ajani's pridemate is very good because it can become the Tarma Big Brother but every 1/1 can stops the giant and it's very very bad.
Therefore I'm thinking to put Angelic Destiny or Spirit Mantle and I would like to read your opinion about them.
IMHO the advantages and disadvantages are:
Angelic Destiny
Pro:
Fly.
Return to hand if the creature dies or get exiled.
Improve race (+4/+4).
Can use with a 1/1 to improve your treath after a clean board spell (wrath, pyroclasm, or every -1/-1 effect).
Weakness:
high mana cost (4).
Spirit Mantle
Pro
Low mana cost.
Protection from creatures.
Weakness
one shoot use.
In addition I would like to find room for Hero of Bladehold (at least 1) to recovery after all die.
If I feel comfortable with this list I will try to make some change to introduce aven mindcensor (at least 2) to improve the land destruction part of the deck.
any advice?
Bladehold is a good SB card against wrath.
Spectral Possession is great because it activates your windbresk heights, gains life, grows your pridemate, and also can help you race if you have 1-2 Honor of the pure. Thats 3 3/3 fliers for 3 mana. Not bad. I only run three because I had to make cuts for other cards I liked.
As for Angelic Destiny and Spirit Mantle, they are both OK, but both are a dead card if the creature dies in response.

Why not play Elspeth, Knight-Errant over Angelic Destiny ? She does essentially the same thing by giving your beater evasion and has the added utility of pumping out 1/1s to gain life and lock up the board.
If you're going monowhite (without ghost quarters or other colorless lands) you might as well play sundering growth over disenchant because it is literally the same artifact/enchament removal at instant speed, but sundering growth can populate a Spectral Possession/Hero of Bladehold token from time to time.
With Pod everywhere and a really bad matchup, why isn't anyone running Graffdiggers Cage on the SB? Ok, the hate enchantments are white and help Martyr, but cage is much more powerful hate.
Also, someone said it's hard to lose to UWR. Really? Do others feel the same? Cause in my experience, control is pretty bad.
In a modern 8-man right now. 1-0, went 2-0 against Doran Junk, I'll try to keep this updated. I'll also write a breakdown of the games after the event is over.
How good is the Imposing Sovereign singleton in Soul Sisters? I've maindecked Blind Obedience in Soul Sisters as a 2-of and I found that the Extort was worth a card and the hoser wasn't, so I'm a bit skeptical about how much better a 2/1 is with the hoser than Extort is.

In the same vein, is Dust Elemental also be too costly?

You are going to want some graveyard hate. There are so many decks that utilize the graveyard, so 3 Rest in Peace is probably suggested.

Why would you ever need timely?
It may not be needed, I've found it to be really good vs. Auras and RDW.
Also, I only listed 13 sideboard cards and after some further testing here is the updated version:
3 Suppression Field
1 Ghost Quarter
1 Katiki, War's Wage
1 Stony Silence
1 Hero of Bladehold
1 Wrath of God
2 Ghostly Prison
1 Disenchant
1 Elspeth, Knight Errant
