I know that someone is not ok with a Facebook group, but it seems a really good solution to replace mtgsalvation. I mean almost everybody own a facebook account. If needed I can create one
I would join a facebook group. A couple things though:
- Consider having multiple admins in case something goes wrong with one user. I'd be happy to admin if needed.
- A big benefit of facebook over Discord is that it's thread-based, liked reddit, but you can scroll through the posts, making it more like a forum. I too think this is a cleaner replacement than Discord, which is just a massive chat stream.
- I have Discord but never use it; I don't like the auto-launch, the RAM it takes up while running, or the notifications. When I do launch it myself, I end up closing it after doing a quick check of whatever "subs" I follow. Maybe I'm just using it wrong, but I don't see it working for me personally, and wonder if others might share a similar experience. Since Discord works better for some users and facebook for others, why not just have both? Seems like there's ample motivation in this thread to keep the discourse going elsewhere.
On the news of mtgsalvation closing, I agree it's disappointing stuff. I'm very proud of the community we've built in this thread and the level of insight we were able to achieve through our dedication to a few silly Modern cards. I'll try to update the primer before the site becomes archived to be more comprehensive and include recent developments, and will take recs on how to go about doing that. Thanks to everyone who's contributed over the years!
the card itself really isn't worth the card board its printed on...does it serve a purpose? Sure its a blue 1 drop that might not be a 1/1. I would not put it in a list and expect to win a PTQ or GP though.
I'm on the Delver discord (as Stubb; my real name isn't Mike), but I find the chatroomy-nature of Discord a little unhelpful for the sort of deep dives we do here.
Facebook would be fine, and I agree on having a few admins.
I'm most curious to see what the admins here come up with for a replacement. I know the cube community on this site is waiting to see what they come up with before deciding en masse where to continue the conversation. Reddit is an option, too, although I don't like how difficult it is to search old content there.

Well I guess I'll have to believe it when I see it.... LOL
Edit: While I expect to get roasted on this, let's discuss the possible merit of niblis of frost from the side board vs. Eldrazi and BGx Midrange decks.
Oh man. Niblis of Frost... you're bringing back some fond memories of limited. With a mitt full of spells, that thing puts the board on lockdown.
He's probably not good enough though. I want to love him, but I think Tubbybatman is right. You have more resilient options at 4 mana. If you decide to try it out, I'd be interested to see your results though.
Against Eldrazi and Midrange, I've found Hazoret the Fervent to be the best creature to bring in, in the 4cmc slot. I had started with Crackling Drake in the sideboard, but it's still prone to removal, can still die when blocking a 4+ power creature, and requires a more reliable mana commitment. Hazoret can block anything for days without dying, and slam in upon casting if you have 1- cards, and get get through damage even if the board is muddled up with creatures (via her second Shock ability).
I know people seem to shy away from Hazoret's attack/block clause, but that just means we change how we need to play our deck when siding her in. The fact is, we're not a control deck, and we are reactive. We don't usually have a fist full of cards that we want to hold onto. Tempo is usually a 1-for-1 tradeoff with cards, with the assumption that we're getting more value out of the cards. Now, with Disrupting Shoal and Force of Negation, we're probably emptying our hands faster anyway. I think Hazoret is well positioned and the most reliable in these midrange matchups.
What's up guys ? I don't know if someone already decided or not to create a facebook group (I'm pretty new here and I never been on the discord). If some people want to launch the group, I'm ok to create it but I need at least 1 another person to create it(send me your facebook profile, I'll add you to the group). I do not know anyone here, I may not be the best to do that but everything has a beginning ^^
OK guys I just went 3-2 in a modern league with this list
Creatures (14)
4 Delver of Secrets
4 Hexdrinker
4 Tarmogoyf
2 Savage Knuckleblade
Spells (27)
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Serum Visions
4 Sleight of Hand
4 Stubborn Denial
3 Tarfire
3 Vapor Snag
3 Deprive
1 Dismember
1 Force of Negation
Lands (19)
1 Botanical Sanctum
2 Breeding Pool
1 Forest
1 Island
4 Misty Rainforest
1 Mountain
4 Scalding Tarn
3 Spirebluff Canal
2 Steam Vents
Sideboard (15)
2 Alpine Moon
3 Ceremonious Rejection
2 Grim Lavamancer r
2 Surgical Extraction
2 Abrade 1r
2 Anger of the Gods
2 Force of Negation
Round 1 I lost a close one to tron in where op put out a thragtusk on time to buy enough time to start dropping heymakers.
Round 2 I somehow lost to black-white tokens, has anyone else had issues against that deck?
Round 3 easy win against Eldrazi and Taxes
Round 4 A hard back an forth against blue moon that I won in 3
Round 5 Made neoform combo look silly
Thoughts on card selection, first the good. Hexdrinker was an all star against blue moon I was able to slam one late and level it to 4/4 and ride it to the win, in other matchups the savannah lion mode felt pretty solid as an aggressive 1 drop. Knuckleblade has always been a pet card of mine but he was surprisingly good, being able to block larger creatures with the pump and providing an extra 2 creatures for stubborn denial, and the ability to come down with haste later to close out games was great. Not playing thoughtscour felt really nice, as having that extra control over my draws with sleight of hand was incredibly helpful in close matches. Force of negation in the board was awesome, especially against neoform. I was worried deprive would feel clunky but it actually did its job incredibly well.
Now for the bad, tarfire felt very weak and I'm wondering if its synergy with goyf is worth it or if there isn't a better option that has more game impact?
I'll come up with more thoughts on the bad side as I continue testing but thats all I've got for now.
BW Tokens is a weirdly rough matchup, especially without Hooting Mandrills for the trample. It's like Jund except their removal is better, and Jund has never been great for us.
Good work against E&T. I have issues with that matchup, personally. Blue Moon always feels good to me, and Neoform seems like a solid matchup. I always like the Tron matchup, as I think our average hands beat theirs, but their nut draw is pretty rough.
Tarfire is definitely meta dependent. I like it lots in game 1, especially as extra reach and planeswalker removal, but it's often cut for stuff postboard. I'm considering a few maindeck Ravenous Trap if the graveyard decks are as busted and prevalent as I think they will be.

Went 0-3 at my last Monday before Horizons legality. Lost 1-2 in tight games to Abzan, got blown out 0-2 against Red Prison, and lost 0-2 to Bant Vizier combo. Prison is a tough matchup, and I view Abzan as basically even, but the Vizier combo deck should be pretty easy. Turns out 3-mana Teferi is really good at protecting combo. Rough week, bad keeps, bad play on my part. Moving on.
Here's my testbed online, and what I'll be playing in paper this coming Monday.
The Narset and Vapor Snag could be anything at this point. And I'm not sure on the cantrips. I haven't been a big fan of Opt before, but I'm trying it out here, and it's been very good for cantrips 7-10 to have a little selection, rather than Thought Scour. The thought behind Narset is that it's a bigger piece for the grindy games. Not sure if it's right. Could easily be another Tarfire, another Magmatic Sinkhole, even a Simic Charm or two. I've also thought about Abrade, and perhaps online I would even play a piece of gravehate in the main here.
Sideboard is up in the air still. I think Hurkyl's is better than Grudge given all the Welding Jars and such the artifact decks are playing these days. Dispel got way worse with the printing of Dovin's Veto, and maybe it could be something else. Disdainful Stroke is a hedge against Tron, which is rampant online right now.
Hexdrinker has been great and I like this build better than the Mandrills build. I don't worry about leveling it up unless I have nothing else to do, but given how removal-light the decks are, it doesn't have much trouble leveling into a 4/4. Being able to put a threat on board turn 1 has been huge, especially in the matchups where you need an immediate clock. And I've won a few games with it being able to swing past everything once it's leveled into a 6/6. I do miss trample a bit, and perhaps I could see playing like 3 Hexdrinkers and 2 Hooting Mandrills, but right now, I want to play with the new toys.

Not playing this deck that much, lately, but that few times Hexdrinker kept impressing me. Has been an all-star, definitely better than the alternatives (especially Mongoose).
Decided I was going to try this. Not sure if it's good or not, but it seems interesting enough. Thoughts? Biggest concern right now is that I feel like I need a couple more green cards to enable Force postboard as this deck folds hard to Chalice of the Void for 1.
Very curious about Arcanist. It wouldn't work in my current build, but I think it's a sweet build-around.
I'm not super convinced on the Electrodominance package, but I've got a small imagination. Let us know how it goes.
