hi Slarg232,
i think firemane angel is to narrow as a sideboard card, collective brutalityis a much flexible sidebaord card and all of it's modes are relevant against burn deck + it synergizes with the deck as a discard engine.
hi everyone,
has anyone here had a lot of experience playing cathartic reunion?
also just like to ask for your opinion about discovery // dispersal as a replacement for mom, i got a few experience playing cathartic, i really dont like cathartic and it's a bad topdeck card i much prefer using salvage effect. the current meta in my LGS is full of ponza/bloodmoon deck that's why i'm thinking of increasing my basic swamps (2-3) and maybe using discovery // dispersal (2-3) instead of cathartic or salvage to simplify my manabase and also to take advantage of path to exile, field of ruin, assassin's trophy.
Is Firemane Angel any good in the sideboard in a meta with a decent amount of burn/Aggro?
With all the ways we have to just dump it straight to the graveyard, I'd think gaining anywhere from 2-4 life a turn passively would be backbreaking against those kinds of decks.
Gnaw to the Bone is far and away the best life gain option we have. You should probably be splashing green anyways for Ancient Grudge out of the SB.
I don't play this deck much anymore but when I did (3-ish months ago) I always used 2x Gnaw to the Bone in SB.
I was surprised that it doesn't run Bloodghasts and also by the 2/2 split of Thug and Imp. 2x Darkblast apart from the creatures for a total of just 6 dredgers.
Also, the sideboard is pretty neat and straightforward.
What do you all think? I'd try to include Brutalities.
wow thanks for sharing! its difficult nowadays to check for dredgevine list since we are also tagged as a dredge deck.
on the decklist, i would prefer to have 4 stinkweed imp and cut other card for a singleton golgari thug if we need the thug. i find turn2 gurmag a very good play and it is highly to happen with stinkweed imp rather than golgari thug without delving our other graveyard treats (crawler, amalgam, vengevine, looting, dredge cards).
scenario:
turn1: fetch > loot > discard 2 (including 1-dredger)
turn2: dredge > gurmag
*less probable to have multiple dredgers due to few dredge cards in the list.
i find darkblast to be very good, it has so many target in the current meta, i'm currently using a 1-of but i'm already considering to make it 2.
for bloodghast: the deck has a few slot to squeeze for it, and most probably the first to be cut upon sideboarding. i think supplier + gravecrawler / vengevine are already enough to trigger amalgam. *btw i'm also bot using amalgam.
Ha! The deck is incredibly similar to one I've been trying out. Haven't been able to test it competitively due to busy life but hopefully this winter I'll have time.
My deck has smaller creatures but seems to be a little faster. I also have loam, gnaw to extended my reach in games against midrange which really has hurt in the past. Thinking about cutting them to sb and bringing in my two cuts to utilize delve and give me some more removal.
My Sideboard and landbase could use some work but not having played competitively I can't be bothered to optimize them with a constantly changing meta.
Value is good. But Dredgevine isn't supposed to be about value. It's supposed to be about V-8; 2000 pounds of nitro boosted war vegetables. The more velocity, the better.

hi! just want to share with you my latest dredgevine decklist hoping someone might take an interest to check our beloved archetype again.
i know the current meta is high on graveyard hate but nobody can stop vengevine from coming back
Unusual Card Choices: Chamber Sentry: sentry helps us to hit 2nd creature trigger for vengevine easily without to much stress on mana, it's not a bad topdeck as it can easily enter as a 3/3 (or 4/4 if we use mana confluence) and provide a wider atk together w/ angler and vengevine, lastly it provides reach to finish the game.
(*note: i know the "X" and tapping is annoying but i consider this ability as a bonus, no need to bother about it's "5c-return" ability, it's unlikely to be activated). Sentry takes the slot of Lotleth Troll, the troll will be missed, it's a zombie / a discard engine / and has evasion, but my complain with troll is that "we want to have "R" on turn1 and "BG" on turn 2 or 3 for troll which gives stress on the manabase.
Grave Strength: i didn't knew this card exist until i saw it in UMA spoiler, it's a mill and buff card in one, one of the disadvantage of dredgevine is the many 1-power creature which has little impact late game. grave strength helps by buffing them and is great on menace/flying/sentry to have a wider atk on the opponent. the big drawback for grave strength is the risk of a 2 for 1. a resolve grave strength on a creature then removed later is not a problem since we already benefited from the mill, the problem is when they respond with a removal to our target making grave strength fizzle. atleast grave strength will divert a removal away from our angler. (*note: normally side-out in game2)
Removal: Lightning Axe: one mana removal and a discard engine, additional discard engine helps since we remove lotleth troll. Fatal Push: another one mana removal and the deck has an easy way of triggering revolt. Darkblast: this could be Golgari Thug but darkblast has so many target in the current meta to pass. Darkblast can kill 1/3 of the Top50 most played creatures in modern (mtggoldfish list).
my list is so far away from being optimal and some of the card choices are due to budget reasons. i love dredgevine and i like tinkering my decklist. feel free to give your opinion about this list, thanks!
*note: i'll bring this list next week in a small tournament, sideboard suggestion is highly appreciated thanks!
testing update: Chamber Sentry - i did like the X-CMC creature can be cast for 0 for speed and sentry can also easily be cast as a 2/2 or 3/3 and the body is very much welcome treat specially on G2. i think Endless One would be a better choice as X-Creature but there are times wherein the ability of Sentry comes in handy. *update: switched to walking ballista
Grave Strength - not that good, it's a mistake to have other creatures lingering in our graveyard specially against BG decks. the card is also an auto board-out in sideboarded games due to weakness against graveyard hate. I'd had replaced this with Altar's Reap, reap has a good synergy with Stitcher's Supplier (mill from supplier first before deciding to draw or dredge). Altar's Reap is also good at sideboarded match in drawing our boarded card.
sharing to you guys my updated list after 2 weeks of testing in 40 matches (22/40 record mostly in xmage). https://deckstats.net/decks/121773/1200683-dredgevine/en
I've also put a sideboarding guide in the decklist for some of the decks that i've played with. (Feel free to correct some of my sideboarding decisions)
So far in my testing the worst match-up i've played were: UW Control and UR Phoenix.
-UW Control, has so many exile effect and once Jace or Teferi hit's the board the only conclusion would be gg.
-UR Phoenix, the major problem is "Thing in the Ice" with all of it's bounce effect but maybe also because of my sideboard (no surgicals since i've sold my copies prior UMA in fear of a reprint ). I haven't had a concrete sideboarding plans yet for this match-up.
What we really need is Putrid Imp, but this is definitely a nice addition. Takes the place of Viscera Seer in the Bridge lists. But do those lists even run Gravecrawler anymore?
concerns with this changes:
- more 1-drop, which make it more vulnerable to chalice for 1 / blast zone for one.
- more "can't block creature", though we are an aggro deck so maybe this is not much of a concern but good to take note.
Hogaak seems to be super strong, like the main reason to revive the deck. I would start with 4 copies because I absolutely want to see one in my games. It means I want only green and black creatures, and maximize their numbers A good starting point can be to play BG only, and see aftera few reps with the new cards whether it's necessary to splash a third colour :
I don't think so. In order to play Hogaak on turn 2&3, what the deck needs is cheap creatures in the GB colors. Playing a red spell is not what I want to do in the early turns, no matter if it's Looting or Neonate.
On top of that, Feeder wants more creatures, so if the mill can be achieved by a creature, it's better than sorceries and instants (I actually cut Salvage for more Thugs now). Vengevine wants more creatures. No, really, Looting is the one flashy card the deck actually doesn't need imho.
The archetype already splashed blue or even white instead of red, that's a sign it can be built in a way where Looting is far from being necessary in the deck.

Faithless looting has been on the ban radar for years. It's one of the strongest cards in all of modern. Playing without it is definitely a mistake. Even if it's your only red card, the splash would be worth it.
faithless looting sets up the deck for a busted T2 play.
T1: looting > discard imp&vengevine
T2: dredge > play land > stitcher supplier + 1-black cmc creature*
*i'll just let yor imagination see what this kind of opening can do.
faithless looting can also help the deck to have a better keepable hands.
you'll never go wrong if you play faithless looting in a graveyard deck.
i've just thought about this scenario, say T4 and the board is clear because of a boardwipe, both hoogak and vengevine is in the graveyard. we are in a topdeck mode.
we draw our card and we got [[lazotep reaver]], we cast it > trigger amass > cast hoogak from graveyard by delving 5 cards and 2-convoke from lazotep + amass token (2nd creature cast) / trigger vengevine.
from an empty boardstate, into drawing that one card transforming into that big explosive boardstate, so do you think [[lazotep reaver]] got a chance MB?
I'm doubtful. I think a creature that mills is priority over 2 random bodies that don't send anything in the yard. Now speaking of the card without a list is impossible tbf.
