I will say, as someone who really wanted Wizard's Retort to work, it just doesn't. It's more often a Cancel. When Delver doesn't flip , is the only time it came up for me. The times I had Snap useful, I was already 4-5 mana in and basically could afford three mana counter spell. It just doesn't compare to the other tempo counter spells available. And believe me I really, really wanted it to work.
Hi everyone! I was thinking about replacing 2 Swiftspears (which are very awful in this deck) with 2 Death's Shadows in my "semi-budget" list, since I can't afford for now Snapcasters but I'll buy Kolaghans in these days. I think that those will improve the deck a bit, surely more than Swiftspears, because I am often on low life due to the greedy manabase and also I could replace Spell Pierce with Stubborn Denial. Is it a worth replacement or do I have to leave the spears?
Hey guys I'm just wondering if yall can give me advice on my decklist. I know it's not a Delver list but the configuration is very similar. I played Delver for a year and felt like it is not in a good position right now. My meta includes Jund which they outvalue me with BBE. I'm working on a Grixis Pyromancer and hope to get some advice
Looking at this configuration I can't help but suggest claim // fame. With 4 snaps and 3 pyromancers it will generate immense value in the average game. Apart from bringing back your value creatures for 1 mana, it also lets you make hasty 7/5 for 3 mana. Now *that* makes some some shocked faces.

A possible changes is one Bedlam Reveler for one Tasigur, the Golden Fang
I also have doubts with the cantrip... Serum, Opt, Scour or Looting? I do not know what to put and in what amount.
You can either go all in on bedlam or all in on delve, not a mixture. They're oil and water. Delving your gy for tasigur and then drawing bedlam next turn will feel pretty bad.

I must say that I don't like GDS plan and that's why I'm not running any Thoughtsize and a full playset of DS, I just wanted a 1 drop threat that can fit this deck and DS seemed to me a good answer. Since I'm not going to lowering my life on purpose my opponent may not expect it.

Do you have Jace, Vyrn's Prodigy lying around? Or, a playset will set you back the cost of 1 snapcaster. You could then play sorcery speed grixis. More discards, value cards like Claim // Fame to maximise on your cheap value creatures like JVP, pyromancer and Death's shadows. You could also "upgrade" terminate to Dreadbore, which gives you the ability to take out planeswalkers, albeit at sorcery speed, but works with JVP anyway.

To be completly honest I think death's shadow doesn't belong in a deck unless you build around it, so without thoughtseize or street wraith it's more difficult to make sure that your death's shadow is a threat when you draw it. My opinion is similar to the comment above JVP is a better option for a semi-budget list, nonehteless there is a bunch of creatures that are god options, like vendilion clique, dire fleet daredevil(probably the best option), another lavamancer and stormchaser mage.
Thank you so much MarcWizard and caesar_16 for your suggestions, unfortunately I haven't got any JVP nor clique nor daredevil at the moment but I'll try to get 2 of them. Thank you once again!
So have the majority of Delver players given up on the Chart a Course? I tried it while everyone was using it during the "test" phase and was unimpressed.

on my part i was never interested in the first place. 2 mana to draw 2 cards at sorcery speed, I'd rather have that mana up for counterspells.

Even as a 1-2 of for the late game....?
For games that might go long I had AVs in the sideboard. If I'm going to do something sorcery speed, it won't cost more than 1. The exception being probably my sideboard dreadbore, but desperate situations call for it.

What sort of flex slot moves do you all make when it comes to meta shifts? For example, Humans, do you all opt for more removal over counter or kept a stock list?

Depending on the meta i run 12 removals and 7 counters or 13 removals and 6 counters, usually swapping the 4th fatal push with the 2nd dispel or the 1st countersquall in the main. However the most important meta change is in the manabase and creature package: in a meta full of burn and non-vial aggro I want 8 fetches, 4 shocks, 4 basics and 3 fastlands, in a land-denial/generic meta I'm happy with 10 fetches, 5 shocks and 4 basics. As for the creatures, at the moment I run only 2 delve fatties, a Vendilion Clique and 3 Young Pyromancers (with Opt instead of Thought Scour) since the number of Fatal Pushes has gone down in favor of Bolt and, in control decks, PtE. If we go back to a 3-4 mb Pushes meta, I'd certainly go back to 4-5 delve threats and Scour as my to go cantrip.

Why the dropping of the fast lands. I'm not seeing the end game there.
Because my build is kinda unusual, it's to maximize the efficiency of the 3-4 pushes (an higher than usual number) and to fill the graveyard for Tasigur since I run opt instead of thought scour. This improves the control matchup giving your cantrips more late game consistency, and the matchup against 3-4 cmc creature decks. The only matchup that becomes clearly worse is burn, but it's already so bad I find useless to try and fix it.

Hey folks, not sure if any of you remember me, but I'm a YouTube content creator and Modern Grixis Delver was the first deck I ever uploaded with. I decided to come back to it with a more or less stock build. You can check out the first of 3 matches below:
Check out some Magic Gameplay and Commentary videos here, including Modern Grixis, Jeskai, and Esper videos as well as some Standard and Drafts too: My YouTube Channel!
I've moved off playing hand disruption in the main. I feel there's too much competition at the one mana slot that having a Delver, Serum and/or Inquisition on turn 1 makes for a hard choice pre-board. Rather than tempt myself with which road to go down turn 1, I put any hand disruption in the board if needed.

I strongly believe that discard spells in the main (outside brutality that's way more than just a discard spell) are a crime against the deck, since 1) I agree with BourbonFox on the 1 drop slot and 2) discard spells are a huge tempo loss. Why don't you try and switch those two for a dispel (I run 2 in the main, but my meta does'n have many humans, so in an open one I'd rather have one) and a second terminate or ever dreadbore, which is very helpful against lilianas (overall the last hope), jaces and tron.
I also think 26 spells are not enough and I'd cut at least the clique (even an angler) for one or two more removals or cantrips.
