Since there's been some Pioneer talk, I thought it would be ok to talk about big green in Legacy.
I'm a Legacy player, and I also play a big green Legacy brew. It's pretty good, and I'd really like to take it to a tourny but I never go to tournaments unfortunately If i did, I think Green Devotion would have had a few more notable finishes at big tournaments.
So if you love big green decks, and you are a Legacy player, here's my most recent Green Sol Stompy Deck for Legacy. I spent a lot of time brewing this beast yesterday. I had made a similar list a while ago, because I tried to make the best Sol Stompy deck in every color. My main Legacy decks are both Blue and White(Solder/Human) Stompy decks, and this once wasn't as good as the others. With the addition of Once Upon a Time, I think it gets a lot better, so I've been excited to play it again. Minimal testing of this new version has been done, but I don't think any massive changes will be made.
Match Data: 5-1
VS. Lantern Control Win 2-1
VS. 4-Color KotR Win N/A
VS. 4c Goodstuff Win N/a
VS. Different Green Sol Stompy deck Win 2-0
VS. N/A Win N/A
Vs. 4c goodstuff w/ Oko Loss N/A
From creating this deck I came across Thorn Mammoth, a card that I didn’t pay much attention to before. This card has been very good in Legacy, it might be a good consideration in Modern.
LEGACY: Soldier Stompy WW // Blue Stompy UU // Fit Variants BGRW // Sol Land Brews BGRUWC MODERN: Pure Pili-ness GU // Red Devotion RR // Green Devotion Variants GRWUG // U/G Emerge CGU // Lots and Lots of Brews BGRUWC
I totally understand the excitement about Devotion that came along with it being BUSTED in Pioneer; but this is a Modern thread so where possible we should discuss impacts on Modern. There is NOTHING wrong with talking about your Pioneer, Legacy, Vintage, or even Casual Devotion deck etc. in the context of what you learned playing it that could be ported/applied to Modern Devotion and/or how it relates to Modern Devotion. Rendroc's Thorn Mammoth example is a perfect example of this.
In honesty, this is a pretty easy going community that knows everyone here wants what is best for all of us (and wants to help improved/provide as much information as possible to the whole Green Ramp community). The only things I ask are:
(a) if you post a non-Modern list; please put it under a spoiler tag (if you know how to format this...if not, please feel free to PM me and I will help you). This will just help new members not get confused.
(b) try to discuss how it can relate to Modern Devotion. It could be as little as play patterns you wish were available (or cards you wish were available) in Modern Devotion. Just something that will help those coming here to discuss/learn more about Modern Devotion.
I don't want this to be a Forum where poeple don't feel free to post what they want. I just want to make sure we don't "steal" from any other primers/posts and make sure we are the best place for new Devotion players to ge ta feel for Modern Devotion.
Having said this, I need to again update the primer to include things like Leyline, Vivien, Once Upon a Time, Veil, etc. In my Opinion, Once Upon a Time is now a Devotion Staple (and Leyline is an archetype) so these must be added. I will post soon to request any additional items you think should be added/removed.
So Oko is such a busted card, it feels wrong not including it in some Devotion list.
So here's a list
Originally I thought about making a deck more similar to my old Simic Devotion list, but I don't have the exact list handy, though I think I remember the composition basically.
My most successful Green Devotion deck was more of a midrange deck with the potential for very explosive starts. Oko fits well into that strategy methinks.

Agreed Rendroc...I have two Oko's in my board and it has been AMAZING. It comes in so many matches. A great answer for problem permanents while just being busted. I've won several games just casting it on Turn 2 and beating down.
No Karn, no Command, only 7 dorks (if you include Dryad Arbor) and a Leyline. I of course love the inclusion of Genesis Hydra
I have a sneaking suspicion that Collector Ouphe did some work in multiple matches.
______
I’ve been looking into a few cards including Ice-Fang Coatl and Hex Drinker. I also am seeing if i May be better off with a few Genesis Hydra as well. Not changing much in my list (as two 4-1’s thus far online) but if there are any slots that can be improved I’m going to do so.
I remember playing Panglacial Wurm a while back. That card seems great now that I think about it more. It’s a great value card, and also essentially has Flash, which can be super helpful especially vs control or Walkers (not Baby Teferi).

So I played in last weeks Fnl ( my first time playing in almost 4 years) I haven't finished my mono green devotion deck yet so I played my mono G Tron. It wasn't long till I noticed that 60% of the local Meta is either e-tron or mono green Tron.. LoL the other 4 decks that showed up where bant eldrazi, mardu elementals, UW control and jeskai control. How does green devotion fair against Tron style deck? What game plays / sideboard plans I should implement? I really want to surprise everyone and shake things up a bit. I noticed alot of d-sphere and Alpine moons in people's sideboard.

A fast Collector Ouphe can shut down their Chromatic Stars and Expedition Maps, slowing them down enough for you to find what you need to close the game quickly. Acidic Slime is a good tutor target to destroy their lands, albeit a little slow. Force of Vigor can disrupt a Karn + Mycosynth Lattice lock down, while also being able to destroy some key artifacts; for example, an Ensnaring Bridge brought from the sideboard. (P.S.: I play GU, I don't have access to red.) Since I play blue, I also bring Disdainful Stroke, in order to have a hard counterspell and not have to deal with problematic permanents.
I think Devotion fairs well against Tron. The deck is explosive and can win quickly, and it doesn't lack tools to interact with your opponent's strategy.
The last two recent 5-0 lists were Leyline lists...it likely is due to the popularity of the deck in Pioneer; but it is something we should pay attention to.
Granted, Leyline decks have a few more “explosive” lines; but are also less resilient to an extent...as any time you play a card that requires other cards to be useful (I.e. has no immediate impact on the game by itself) you will be doubly dependent on the other cards’ survival (in our case early mana dorks). As with all games (at least those designed reasonably) there has to be some trade off between speed and resilience.
So my local Meta is 60% Tron. Either e-tron or green Tron. The others are 1 deathshadow , 2 control, 1 bant eldrazi.
This is what I was thinking of running this next FNL.
4 arbor elf
4 gilded goose
4 utopia sprawl
4 garruk wild speaker
4 oko
4 once apon a time
4 spiral Growth
4 wicked wolf
1 acidic slime
2 questing beast

2 nightpack ambusher
2 frilled mystic
4 nyktho
4 waterlogged Grove
2 Temple of mystery
2 breeding pool
7 Forest
1 island
Side board
3 veil of summer
4 Ceremonious Rejection
3 thragtusk
2 Collector Ouphe
1 rachet bomb
2 Prophet of Kruphix
What is everyone thoughts?
That's certainly a spicy take on Devotion (to Wolves)! The only bit I don't like is the Spiraling Growth, because we run a low land count, there is low likelihood of actually hitting a land off the top. I'd definitely recommend Oath of Nissa in that slot, as it digs you 3 deep, can also grab creatures/planeswalkers, adds to Devotion, and only costs 1.

I was thinking that was going to be my weak point at first glance. I only put it there cause I have those already. I see why oath is better
Have you ever played with the primal command eternal witnesss combo? I curious on how viable it still is.
The Witness/Command convo is relatively meta-Specific.
When you are ahead; you will nearly always shut the opposition down with it...but there are a lot of match ups it’s not fast enough against.
With burn, Tron, & Planeswalkers being very heavy in the format; it’s not a bad option...the only real killer is counterspells (so play 4x Veil in your board).
________
So I 100% am trying out the Leyline build (with a few tweaks). It literally plays all is the cards I have been crazy about (May be the first time ever people don’t ask. “Why are you playing Genesis Hydra?” Ha! ). Finally my pet card gets to shine I honestly don't know if Leyline is needed (Arbor Elf + Utopia Sprawl creates 4-mana as well on turn 2 so just as powerful with Karn). I don't know the stats for 4-CMC by turn two and 10-mana by turn three for each set of cards (i.e. which "ramp package" is more consistent); but given the recent 5-0's I figured I should try it out.
The cats out of the bag in Karn (we’ve know that for a while)...but I do worry about the deck’s resilience. It seems SO linear that any disruption (especially a board wipe) will likely be a big hurdle. Genesis Hydra helps this a LOT; but I wouldn’t mind 1-2 more scalable cards.
I’m trying out a list today. It really won’t be so different from the 5-0 lists; as they are already similar the list I’ve been playing for months (I’m just switching out the Arbor Elf + Utopia Sprawl package for Leyline + dorks). I refuse to give up Garruk so that will be another small difference. Funilly enough...this is the first time in a long time I haven't played Genesis Hydra main...but I will happily add it back in!
Excited to see green Devotion getting some love! I will be editing the primer this weekend to include the recent success of Leyline builds.

Round 1) went 2-0 vs mono green Tron. Game one ( on the play) was a turn two questing beast fallowed by a turn tree acidic slime on Tron land and oko. He scooped after oko. Game 2 ( on the draw) sided in collectors and Ceremonious rejection. Turn 2 countered his Karn liberated , turn 3 was an oko and left up Mana for frilled mystic. He played wurmcoil and Karn the creater. Countered the creater with mystic. Turn 4 grabbed his wurm with oko and played once apon a time hit questing beast and swung for 4. He flipped his top card of his deck and it was a basic forest and scooped.
Round 2 went 2-0 vs bant eldrazi.
Game 1: oko ftw!
Game 2 :oko and wolfbrair kicked for 7 During her end step with a prophet.
Round 3 went 2-1 vs esper control
Game 1 ( on the play)was a close one but a top deck questing beast and nightpack closed it.
Game 2 (on the draw )he day every answer
Game 3 was a blow out. Turn two oko played veil when he tried to counter drew a questing beast on turn 3. Turn 4 was a mystic and he was done.
Thoughts , the simic flash is strong! Questing beast and oko were all-stars.
This is far from the best take on G Devotion, but it's so janky I want to try it out. The idea being to make a bunch of wolves, abuse ETB triggers with Temur Sabertooth, and win with Craterhoof or a Garruk Ult. That or Broko.
