It’s a little different than my other decks; as I’ve always been extremely high on Utopia Sprawl, Arbor Elf, Oath of Nissa, and Abundant Growth as a core to begin Devotion Decks with. There is just a really high rate of Engineered Explosives and Chalices running around in my meta...so I wanted to try out Leyline.
I really did also want to look into the synergy between both Kiora’s And Uro as well. Uro is great with both:
1. Uro enters the battlefield before it is sacrificed; so with the 3-drop Kiora you draw 2-cards, gain 3 life, and put another land in.
2. 4-drop Kiora puts cards into the graveyard; so you can actually get some cards into the yard for the escape cost.
Leyline also works well with both Kiora’s as unlike Garruk; the Kiora’s can also u tap creatures.
I’ve been pleasantly surprised with the speed of the deck. I didn’t think it would be as consistently fast as my Karn deck (only because it uses Simian Spirit Guide); but it is. You have to mulligan a little more aggressively; but I’ve kept multiple hands without Leyline that worked out great.
The deck essentially just overloads the opponent (forces them to have answers and lots of them quickl) and has a tiny bit of interaction to answer what absolutely has to be answered. Genesis Hydra into Woodland Bellower, into Wistful Selkie is nuts...and with a Kiora Behemoth Beckoner on board that line essentially becomes a 6-for-1.
Like most of my decks, once you get a board presence; you pretty much can draw, untap, play a land, untap, etc. until you draw out the deck/dig to what you are looking for.
The board is more dedicated to the combo decks in the format (as most fair decks can’t beat this). I’ll post more tonight after play.
I wrote out a little blurb about Leyline to add to the primer and will let you know when it is up. I’m not a Leyline aficionado yet; so it may miss something you guys could add to it.
Hi there, been a long time lurker to green devotion, Moved onto other decks and brew and wanted to give the deck another run since it got some considerable upgrades over the last ~year or so. Veil of summers, ouat, Castle, and karn are nuts for the deck. I like to play a more toolbox kinda style deck that likes to fetch answers and such. Not sure how to upload a decklist with links new to posting.

Still not entirely sure how to format things correctly but theres the list Im working on. Last 15 are sideboard.
So glad you posted! Glad to have you here.
You are absolutely right we’ve had a lot of upgrades this last year. I do agree that Karn is incredible. Gives us the interaction we need in a nice little “Oatha-able” package. I still say we are the best for Karn.
Your list plays a lot of high drops. Llanowar Tribe facilitates this well. It’s such a crazy ramping card. I haven’t played with it in a little while (only because the meta I play in got a little hostile to smaller creatures and I’d rather they bolt a fork than my 3-drop)...but it is crazy powerful. I gotta try it out again
Cool list!

I’m kinda surprised standard players haven’t noticed the interaction between Kiora, Behemoth Beckoner and Uro, Titan of Nature’s Wrath. I don’t know much about Standard though.
Ya currently working on it, its version 1 so kinda testing right now, Already made some changes. Right now the biggest thing Im running into is just not hitting a mana sink enough. Like even through disruption can make big mana and just not have anything to spend it on. So far I cut the primal command + eternal witness package since it really wasnt impacting the way I wanted, there are things in the deck that can be much more impactful like terastodon on turn 3 killing all there lands. I added 2 finale of devisation to main for some wombo with craterhoof. So It makes smaller boards just a hit more lethal. Im going to add one fetchable red source. to many games been able to drop in primal and dont have the red source in main. Thoughts on the list so far?
Right now I feel a lack of good turn 2 plays if we don't hit turn 1 ramp. Used to have burning tree emissary here but I feel that tribe does a better job at hitting that sweet 6 mana spot on turn 3. And has the potential for 19 mana on turn 3. Currently about to test conjures closet in wishboard, might test with some low curve etb effects. Already have things like sundering titan, terastodon, hornet queen, primeval titan. Goose has been really nice so far, really helps the deck grind though some matchups. What are our defences against dredge outside of karn grabbing hate like tormods/bridge, also does the deck type have a discord?

I'll have to try it.
i don't think its too slow for modern. Red Deck Wins is a big thing in most meta data right now. so playing Uro if your splash is a good hedge for the meta.
As long as jund doesn't get there maindeck ooze online bringing back an Uro in the yard has been tide turning for me. they disrupt so much that they fill the graveyard up with the 5 cards you need for an escape.
thing with Kiora, Behemoth Beckoner is i've never been entirely comfortable running her. like the deck never balanced right with its untap effects and mana ramp effects with her in the 3 slot. you'd think she wouldn't be much different than overgrowth but i found the deck always running better with overgrowth than kiora in the 3cc slots for ramp. If your having good results with her, I'll need to revisit this myself.
this brings me to another point. have you have many match ups where opponent blew there force of negation on your overgrowth or utopia sprawl.
In last couple of events i've notice this happen a few more times to me and my opponents were right to gamble on that early move, as it tripped me up a couple of turns.

Totally agree. I play way more 1-2 drop cantrips than most...which tends to get me out of these scenarios (and allows for some keeps even when you don't have a dork...but this is a HUGE issue with the deck. This is why in most of my decks in the past I have played less three drops and more 1-2 drops.
I have been seeing a LOT more success with my Curio deck lately. I don't know if it is just the meta, the addition of Uro, or my just playing better...but I have been surprised recently by its success. Here is the list:
I know it seems weird with all of the control running around; but I've found that the current control decks are far more reliant on countering ONE spell each turn....and if you throw enough at them they simply can't handle it. For those newer to the primer, this is actually an infinite combo deck....so it is played more like a combo deck. Cloudstone Curio does a lot in a deck like this. The combo comes from "looping" two mana-producing planeswalkers...but you also get "loops" from 1-drop enchantments to draw as many cards as you have mana for, etc. You can loop Eternal Witness, Wall of Roots, etc. as well. Any ETB effect can be abused.
I do miss Genesis Hydra...and I will find a way to get at least one in there (hopefully two); but Wave has been pretty darn strong and tends to play a little stronger in the Curio Combo builds when it can be played. You can always replace the Waves with Hydra's if control is super heavy in the meta (although I honestly haven't had a huge difficulty with control yet)
I'll post more about it later...but I did want to post this as I have been pleasantly surprised that it seems to be back in a place where it is strong again.
That looks great! This is very near my Leyline list. I LOVE Genesis Hydra, Llanowar Tribe, etc. Once Upon a time ban hurt these lists, but only by a little.
Magus of the Moon played a Tooth and Nail deck the other day on his Twich stream and went 4-1 with it! It looked really good...so I think Tooth and Nail is viable again too! It's a great time to play Green Devotion.
Fiend Artisan is quite similar to Fauna Shaman, but it actually comes at more of a cost since discarding a creature is better than having to sac a creature you already cost. It adds one converted mana cost to the casting cost essentially as well. I think the ability is worse than that of Fauna Shaman, except maybe vs countermagaic, but that fact that it can become a threat itself might make it better.
Vivien, Monster's Advocate looks great actually but it's 5 mana. I'm a huge fan of the card design though, and if I was still playing magic, which I haven't been able to do for a while now, I'd be testing her out!
LEGACY: Soldier Stompy WW // Blue Stompy UU // Fit Variants BGRW // Sol Land Brews BGRUWC MODERN: Pure Pili-ness GU // Red Devotion RR // Green Devotion Variants GRWUG // U/G Emerge CGU // Lots and Lots of Brews BGRUWC

What happened? Are you ok? Did you get burnt out or was it a personal issue (obviously don't need any specifics if you don't want or can't provide). Only asking because if there is a way we can help you know we will!
I came to also say that I like the Fiend Artisan, but now that you guys bring up the similarity to Fauna Shaman, I'm not sure it's much better. I haven't played much magic lately either b/c my LGS has closed, so I'm only half-paying attention to spoiler season. Hard to get excited far cards I can't play with. It's really killed my desire to brew new stuff.
As for new Vivien, I like her abilities, but at 5 mana it's a tough sell for me.
From my testing of Fiend Artisan in other decks, I find it's better overall than Fauna Shaman. Fiend Artisan is out of Bolt range shockingly often, you basically pay X instead of the actual mana cost of the creature you're tutoring for (more importantly, you don't need to pay the specific colours), you can tap your mana dork for mana and then feed it to Fiend Artisan (as opposed to Fauna Shaman forcing you to not play the mana dork), and we get into topdeck mode fairly quickly, thus making Fauna Shaman worse at the same rate.
Fiend Artisan can also burp out an infinite combo given only 13 mana and a spare creature, though I don't think Nykthos Green really wants to play that combo's Corridor Monitor, Renegade Rallier, and Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker. (Fauna Shaman needs exorbitant colour requirements and 2 spare creatures in hand but only 9 mana to pull off the same combo, as it doesn't need Renegade Rallier. But then, if you have 2 spare creatures, Fiend Artisan also needs only 9 mana.)
As an infinite mana sink, Fiend Artisan needs no creature cards in hand to tutor for your win con--just eat one of the creatures enabling infinite mana.
might be best to just run it with fink and strangleroot for some good synergy and mana ramping. the combo can be a top of the curb finisher, if attacking doesn't win the game.
simply ditching a geist for a hero of oxid ridge or the like is a big swing in decks running eldritch evolution
Great points! It may be mana heavy; but we are a mana heavy deck! It also gives us something to do with late mana dorks. It’s also 2 green pips!
Thus far those are the only two cards I’m excited about. I will let you know how my Vivien testing goes...she also feels like she can make some interesting combos with her due to her -2
There were multiple synergies I wanted to try out; so I have been playing:

3x Genesis Hydra
1x Walking Ballista
3x Kiora, Behemoth Beckoner
3x Kiora, Master of the Depths
Other (11)
4x Leyline of Abundance
3x Once Upon a Time
3x Oath of Nissa
1x Primal Command
Land (21)
8x Green Fetch Land

uro, titan of natures wrath great for thos match ups that will kill off the dorks. A second line of play should board be getting picked off.
im up to 23-25 lands in my deck just because i want to cram a small portion of titan field combo into my deck.
So glad you posted! Glad to have you here.
