Cards that makes us lose life are to avoid, imho. Engineered Explosives also isn’t the best, but it’s very versatile and it deals with most walkers in the current Modern.
My singleton Blast Zone over the third Field of Ruin has been doing a TON of work and is a great answer the the walkers as well, although unfortunately probably can't afford to run more of them. I'm running a 2/2 split of Tar Pit and Colonnade and the pits have been great for providing some pressure and getting an early threat against slow decks.

Life loss is a concern, for sure, but having a catch-all answer is very powerful. You just have to play with the knowledge that you could need to bolt yourself.
So I played this list last night at FNM with a very small turnout, just 3 rounds, but I went undefeated. My matches were 2-1 Infect, 2-1 BlisterBurn, 2-0 Esper Mentor. Here's the decklist:
To put it simply, the deck felt very good. I think Kaya's Guile is incredibly underrated, as it gives us good lifegain mainboard. There were several times that I could've entwined it but forgot that it was an option. Guile-Snap-Guile does a very good Lingering Souls impression with 2 other modes as well. I think it's going to be a staple moving forward, but I think 2 might be the right number. As for the Nihil Spellbombs, I feel like they're good but only worth playing 2 since it's a clunky cantrip. I wasn't impressed with Narset, Parter of Veils, and I think that it could be a 2nd T3feri and a singleton Kaya, Orzhov Usurper, but Narset wasn't necessarily bad. I never saw the Spell Pierce, so I don't know if it's good. I think I'll be on Esper until Hogaak eats a ban.
For the record, it looks like MTGNexus is up and functional for the moment. I registered and finally got my user without the numbers haha. I think if most of you guys move over there that's where I'm gonna try to be. I might be willing to work on a primer, but it depends on how comfortable I feel with the formatting over there. So far it seems the same.
Hey all, hope you can give me some insights on my list below. Although I do have good results, when I go to 3rd game, usually its a draw coz time's up and i'm wondering if i play it slow, or my list need to be slightly more aggressive. For the record, a few things that you might wonder:
- No snapcasters yet coz im budget friendly but definitely on my next buys. Big Teferi too when it rotates out.
- Not a fan of celestial colonnade although maybe I should have a copy
- Currently playtesting Ob Nixilis (won me a game vs prison!) and Kaya's guile (seems relevant in the meta and cute card in general)
- To increase a bit the aggression, I think of adding either +1 Secure the wastes, 2 V. Cliques, 1 Elspeth Sun's Champion.

I would like to advise you to post this over on MTGNexus, as the vast majority of the active Esper content is happening over there. In fact, I updated the primer myself and will continue to manage it for as long as I can.
It's practically the same as MTGS but even perhaps better in a few small ways -- they track card prices and price changes, the notifications bring you to the last unread post rather than the end of the thread, etc.
