Oooooo I like. One of the things I hate about Ponza is losing because of dead draws mid-late game.

Nice to see you here Foodchain. I think your list is already good. Although personally, I would drop the huntmaster and add another tracker. Tracker is just so good in this deck, and she is a source of card draw.

Is this your first time playing Ponza?
Yeah, a 3rd Tracker would have been better. Tracker is definitely good in this deck.
A player that grinds some local tournaments ran Ponza to a 1st place finish. I was damn surprised, as I don't think much of the deck. Obviously every deck has its good draws while their opponent draws trash, but outside of that and polarized matchups, I don't think it's where I want to be. He ran Mizzium Mortars, so I decided to try it.
Round 1 vs. Grixis Shadow. This is one of the few players that I can outplay and win against, as Modern doesn't allow much room for that. I think I'm 7-1 vs. him lifetime. In the first game, I keep a 4 land hand. He does double Street Wraith, Thoughtseize me. I draw 5 lands for my 5 draw steps and die. In the next game, I keep a 2 land hand on 6 cards. I have 5 draw steps again and draw 0 lands. I ended up with every card over 3 left in the deck, except 1 more Chandra, Torch of Defiance. Had some 3 drops obviously as well. He did double Street Wraith, EoT Fatal Push my Birds of Paradise. Death's Shadow and Gurmag Angler with TBR again. 7-2 lifetime now. 0-2.
Round 2 vs. Burn. He does Goblin Guide, then suspend Rift Bolt and Monastery Swiftspear. I do Utopia Sprawl into Blood Moon. I have Birds of Paradise and Arbor Elf as well, but don't want them Searing Blazed. I WANT turn 2 Blood Moon. I Mizzium Mortars the Goblin Guide after Tireless Tracker blocks Swiftspear. He doesn't play much and in the end, has me at 1 life with 3 cards in hand. In the next game, he rushes me again with creatures and Burn. I do Blood Moon again, but he doesn't have White cards this game. Gets me with a bunch of burn after Skullcrack on Obstinate Baloth. In the next game, I get Blood Moon on turn 2 for the 3rd game! Tireless Tracker and Baloth (into Skullcrack again), I swing with only Tracker after cracking some clues because next turn is lethal with a swing and an Inferno Titan that I have in hand. I get him. He is stuck on Path to Exile, fetch, and Cindervines in hand. 2-1.
Round 3 vs. Junk Little Kid. He rushes me in the first game, but a Courser of Kruphix and no Path to Exile by him allows me to play Inferno Titan, then Stormbreath Dragon, to swing the tides. I kept on 2 lands and Utopia Sprawl, but he turn 2 Knight of Autumn on a Sprawl, so I was stuck on 3 mana for a while. I drew the lands right in time. In the next game, a Tireless Tracker was Maelstrom Pulsed, which I would have waited for a land drop. But I assumed I'd draw a non land this game. Nope. I lose with 6 mana in play and 3 lands in hand. In the final game, I destroy a lot of lands. I need an Anger of the Gods to wipe some mana dorks, but he plays 7 straight lands this game, keeping 4 of them while I draw Blood Moon #2 and #3 this game instead of gas. He drew cards to kill me, as I prayed for a Mizzium Mortars. He drew cards to kill me and I drew redundant Blood Moons. Ouch! 1-2.
Round 4 vs. Jund. He was 2-1 and I am 1-2, so I was hoping to beat him, then scoop to him so he could prize. In game 1, I destroyed multiple lands and he made 1 mistake fetching, not allowing him to have Black mana. This set him back too much and I had gas. In the next game, I destroyed 3 lands, but he played 8 straight land drops and got Maelstrom Pulse on an Inferno Titan. Then he gets Bloodbraid Elf on a nearly empty board (I had Arbor Elf) into Maelstrom Pulse #2 on Chandra, Torch. That's all the gas I had. In the final game, I made my first obvious mistake of the night. I do Primal Command after luck sacking into a 4th land with Utopia Sprawl in play and Inferno Titan and Primal Command in play. I do Primal Command, getting Obstinate Baloth to hedge against discard, and bounce Treetop Village to the top of the library, leaving 2 Blackcleave Cliffs in play. He played a 3rd Blackcleave Cliffs that he had in hand and Kologhan's Command, making me discard Inferno Titan. I drew a 6th mana source next turn. I should have kept Baloth, but I assumed the Treetop Village was his only 3rd land, so he would have it tapped. He also drew 6 straight lands until he missed for a turn. I got lucky in the late game with overload Mizzium Mortars, but he Bloodbraid Elf into Maelstrom Pulse on my Stormbreath Dragon. I draw a land and 2 more Blood Moon before dying to the Treetop Village and Bloodbraid Elf for 3 turns. He had turn 3 Dark Confidant in all 3 games, but it was Mortared in games 2 and 3. Sad times. 1-2.
I go 1-3. I had that terrible mistake in Round 4. I probably should have not shuffled my library in a way that my Round 1 opponent would shuffle me to all land or no land. Other than that, I saw very polarized draws that were good, but not unbeatable. Not sure if my list was trash. I ended up not using the 2 Raking Canopy from the SB. I thought it'd be fun! Outside of when I played Shamans 2 weeks ago, I've played 0 UR Phoenix in my last 6 tournaments, 3 of which were Comp REL.
*I haven't played Ponza in quite a while. The last time I played it was probably a year ago, with Bloodbraid Elf after he got unbanned. I ran it in 2 tournaments and got to play against Tron. I put it together because there were 3 Amulet Titans last week, so I figured with Ponza and Ancient Grudges in the SB, I should have it favored. When I saw that my opponent was Shadow, I didn't want to play Amulet myself (that my friend gave to me to play in case) because I thought I'd draw trash and Ponza has a better shot.

Rough night, but still a little better than your Dredge night, just kidding. I say, some of your losses came from bad draws.
Also running out of gas is a serious problem of this deck -- which is why I went a bit on hiatus and built a Mardu Pyro deck instead.
Anyway, one thing I'm thinking if pick up this deck again is to go to the full set of Tireless Tracker, for better card draw. As well as trying the new Neheb.. he is a large beater that allows us to throw away unneeded lands and dorks.
Hi there! Love to read you all, and since this seems a place for dreams and hopes, I'm looking for opinions about a couple of cards.
Kyora behemoth beckoner: I'm putting toguether a Dragon Ponza (4 thunderbreak, 3 stormbreath, 3 glorybringer and 1 hellkite) since all creatures except dorks are 4/x or more, could it work as an efficient card advantage generator while ramping us? Untaping an arbor elf seems nuts. Maybe 2/2, 3/2 aplit with the 3 mana Sarkhan?
Finale of devastation: (for any kind of ponza) In the few months I played ponza around my city I realized that a couple removals leaves us out of gas, and since we have a low creature count, you can be left drawing lands, dorks, ld... Maybe a couple copies of finale can help us rebuy a bbe, or in a more developed table pay 8 to search/rebuy a hasty inferno titan.
So that's it, I'll be grateful for any kind of opinion. See ya!
My opinion is that our land destruction together with blood moon should help prevent some of the removal from being cast. Ang most of our large threats are not killed by bolt and fatal push. However, the real problem is not the opponent's removal. It's the deck itself has the bad habit of flooding on lands, dorks, and even extra moons that are not needed - just sharing my own experience with the deck, and not saying it happens with everyone.
The mana flood problem has been only partially solved by Tireless Tracker.. well, maybe the new Kiora that you are testing will help solve it?
Anyone else think that Karn, the Great Creator can be viable in Ponza? This deck can have trouble with combo, and this deck can also ramp out Karn GC on Turn 2 (and immediately wish for Tormod's Crypt) or ramp out Karn GC on Turn 3 and wish for and play a hate rock that turn. Against aggro, he can wish for Engineered Explosives, Ensnaring Bridge, or Walking Ballista, and this is a decent Bridge deck. Hosing the fast mana off Ad Nauseam is a bonus.
Karn GC really wants big mana, though, and he eats up a lot of sideboard slots.
What do people think of Vivien's Arkbow for filtering in mid/late game? Might help convert some of the useless dorks into threats in a more creature heavy version.

I like it as a SB card for the grindy matchups. The problem is the meta being too fast right now and grindy matchups are rare. It may replace tracker as tracker is just too slow and I always side my trackers out.

I think you'll probably be better served by the bow user herself, Vivien Reid. Does the filtering you're looking for, can also serve up removal or defend herself in a pinch. Not a very interesting ultimate, though.

Yep, I also thought of her. I've been messing around with a Gruul Stompy with mainboard Moons but no LD, so I preferred putting a creature straight onto the field than in my hand.

I think to make your mana more consistent, and the fact that you are running Karn. You could cut the white mana. With Karn you can just search up tormod’s crypt or relic. That is also just a personal opinion as I have yet to test any maya build of ponza
