I play jötun grunt in my decklist as a 2-off. It's an answer to treasure cruise. For myself I ve tested UR delver with it and it's amazing. So I think it will see play in much lists.
He shrinks goyfs, removes snapcaster targets, removes scooze targets, timewalk/wall against aggro decks and a beater
I still have to figure many games VS meta decks but I think he is really maindeck playable (2cmc spot of tidehollow sculler doesn't impress me much)
For others like me who don't know the card Jötun Grunt. Interesting tech and on a 4/4 beater.
How do we play against Jeskai Ascendancy Combo????
Targeted discard their stuff (I generally prioritize Jeskai Ascendancy over Glittering Wish over Treasure Cruise over Sylvan Caryatid/Silence over other stuff if I have no other disruption in hand, but perhaps I should make Cruise higher-priority), kill their mana dorks ASAP, Path to Exile their mana dorks in response to Jeskai Ascendancy, make Liliana kill Caryatid, tap out for threats while they have 2 mana or less or they don't have mana dorks and they have 3 mana or less, pray they're not on a Silence build, boot mana dorks in response to Silence, board in enchantment removal, nuke Ascendancy in response to the first untap trigger...
...pray they don't board in Leyline of Sanctity (or, heaven forbid, board in creatures--I run a Wind Zendikon build, so I've had a surprisingly good time testing Sorin, Lord of Innistrad as a Wish target against Bx Midrange, and I've found that I have barely enough offensive presence to like Vendilion Clique in the board)...
I suspect the pre-board match-up is fairly close to even, but it will be a hairy time for everyone!
hey guys, i'm building a pretty stock list for this deck but how good is obliterator in the deck? my meta is basically all pod and rock decks and i think he would be just insane so i thought of using him as my main threat and just tweaking the mana base for more black
Would anybody who plays this deck primarily be willing to kind of go through the matchups and note how you approach the game.
I was able to trade into some Liliana's of the Veil, and have traded some cards in to pick up Bob's, so I'm almost full up with everything I need. I'm very new to modern though, and as I start to play more and more decks a lot of times I don't know what to do. Should I be using Liliana as a kill spell or card removal (obviously this is situational) for example. What matchups are Dark Confidant and Liliana of the Veil needing to be pulled. What decks do I need to bring in my graveyard hate ect. Basically just if anybody who plays this deck frequently could kind of explain their goals in all the major matchups. Similarly to how @Lectrys explained the Jeskai matchup.
My buddies and I are planning to hit up an SCG event in the coming months to do a standard and modern event and I'm going to start prioritizing certain nights to Standard online practice, and certain nights to Modern online practice, and I want to have a better understanding of how I should be viewing the matchups.
I really appreciate any help you all can give. I hope to be a key contributor here down the road, but right now I'm like a newborn lamb trying to find my way to water. Part of my issue could be I play mostly against an upgraded BW Tokens build and I hear that's just a tough matchup for us.

Yeah, Jötun Grunt actually seems like it could be playable now that Treasure Cruise is a thing. I'm gonna start with it in the sideboard though. If you run a couple of Restoration Angel it might be good enough for main but without them it seems a bit too situational.
So has anyone tried the new Sorin out in the deck yet?
Yeah, I've tried Sorin, Solemn Visitor, and he grinds about as well as Sorin, Lord of Innistrad, but he also swings the Burn match-up very hard (as long as you don't get a Skullcrack to the life total the turn you slam him down). He's been fairly good to me, and I recommend him as the expensive Lifelink dude because he's pretty good at grinding and he actually sometimes comes down against Burn on time. (Yeah, I'm not a Baneslayer Angel fan.)

Alright! Would you mind sharing the list you've been playing him in?
I played the deck at GP LA side event this past weekend. I went 2-1-2, I was about to go 3-1-1 but didn't have enough time to finish off Jund. I drew against Jund and Melira Pod. I beat RDW and Faeries. Lost big time to Storm, even after dropping a leyline. I will post a longer post about the games when I have some time, but here are a few quick observations. Baneslayer did NOTHING for me in any match ups, the 2 times i dropped him he was removed immediately. Brimaz also was unimpressive. I played Sorin, Lord of Innistrad and he was pretty good but a little slow to win. I am thinking of playing 2 resto angels and replacing brimaz with splicer, brimaz doesnt feel worth the 2 white mana, I'd rather play splicer and play one more mutavault because PACK RAT is the real deal. I will post my new list and old list tomorrow. I think the new sorin might be better because of it's interaction with souls, not sure yet.

Ooh, Oblivion Ring! Nice =) I wan't to try that one as well but it seems so risky with all the Abrupt Decays in the meta. In your opinion, what match ups are the best and worst regarding Oblivion Ring?
