some Burn and rock decks are splashing blue for treasure cruise.. interesting. It makes jötun grunt even better :). I really like him.
It's an awesome card. A bit too awesome if you ask me. But we could definitely splash for it. It's probably better then Dark Confidant anyway (which of course can't be played in the same deck). It would also allow for a higher curve since we don't have to worry about the damage from Dark Confidant.
I don't think splashing blue for treasure cruise is good at all. Better than dark confidant? I don't think so. It's most of the times not even better than a divination. You have to delve 5 cards for it to be better than divination.
Not to say that one of this deck's strengths is the mana base, splashing blue would not help.

I tried that Willy Edel BGwu Rock deck with 4 Treasure Cruise (and more fetches, 8 targeted discard, 2 Tiago, 7 non-Liliana removal spells), and I often cast Cruise for 1U. Late topdecked ones tended to cost U.
So has anyone tried the new Sorin out in the deck yet?
Yeah, I've tried Sorin, Solemn Visitor, and he grinds about as well as Sorin, Lord of Innistrad, but he also swings the Burn match-up very hard (as long as you don't get a Skullcrack to the life total the turn you slam him down). He's been fairly good to me, and I recommend him as the expensive Lifelink dude because he's pretty good at grinding and he actually sometimes comes down against Burn on time. (Yeah, I'm not a Baneslayer Angel fan.)
Alright! Would you mind sharing the list you've been playing him in?
Ooh, Oblivion Ring! Nice =) I wan't to try that one as well but it seems so risky with all the Abrupt Decays in the meta. In your opinion, what match ups are the best and worst regarding Oblivion Ring?
O. Ring's mainly in to do a decent Maelstrom Pulse imitation. I still think a nice, versatile catch-all is something BW Midrange should really be playing...although being blown out by Decay, Pulse, Qasali Pridemage, Karn, and Oblivion Stone does suck.
At least O. Ring's better than Utter End against Delver, Zoo, Affinity, and likely Burn because it's crucially 1 mana cheaper!
O. Ring gets boarded out against anything that doesn't run enough important permanents (Scapeshift, sometimes UWR Control, etc.).
I'd rather play dig through time than treasure cruise.
Unfortunately, there are too many things that get o'ring. It's dangerous to take the oponnents best card with it. They can destroy it at the end of our turn and go for the win. Utter end might be better.

I don't think Utter End is cheap enough to play in this deck but I also feel that Oblivion Ring is too risky, soo I'll maybe try one out in the sideboard but stick to Path to Exiles, Dismembers and a misers Slaughter Pact in the mainboard.
Than I agree with you, also jotun grunt is good against tarmogoyf.
What do you guys think of high priest of pennance? He seems to be a value card, most of the times he gets rid of something when he dies, and he can sometimes be a sort of "unblockable" creature.
So I'm building a modern deck with basically no cards. Any advice on a solid decklist to start? I browsed the thread but a lot of the lists are pre-khans and I don't know how viable some of them still are. The area I play at is pretty competitive so I need a fairly solid decklist. Especially since I'll be shelling out a lot of cash.
Has anyone had decent tournament results lately? I was debating on building this or BG rock. I dont have any modern cards reaally so I'll be buying most of the cards so I don't wanna build a deck I can barely do well at events with.
Its worth to splash U just for TC? Since i dont have Bob maybe something like this?
As I said before, the advantage this deck has over others is the consistent mana base. Adding blue for treasure cruise won't help. A red or green splash is way more profitable.
But running two colors is much more consistent.

The advantage this deck has over BG rock is the excelent utility and sideboard cards white colors provide and the price tag. If you have 800$ and are willing to spend them on tarmogoyf, please go ahead. Otherwise stick to this build, get your dark confidant and liliana of the veil and spend the 800$ on something else. You can always "upgrade" the deck with goyfs when they get reprinted and stop being ridiculously expensive.
Would you say that BG or BGw is a bit more viable than this if you can afford the Goyfs? I don't have a lot of experience with modern (just borrowed a freinds affinity deck a few times.)
The main advantage BG has over this deck is tarmogoyf and abrupt decay. Like I said, there are lots of benefits from white, path to exile, and lots of utility cards.
According to tournament results, BG has more wins than this deck, but people using this deck have also won PTQ's and other tournaments. And there is always the tendency that people have to copy other decks, normally players don't even try to make their own deck, they copy and paste decks from tournaments and use them. There aren't lot of people trying new decks. When they do, decks like deadguy ale appears.
Either way, the Bobs and lilianas you're going to have to get anyway. You might as well try get the white cards and try this deck. If you don't do well with it you can easily trade them away and then buy the goyfs and abrupt decays.
I was debating on getting all the cards for BG rock, BGw souls, jund, and deadguy ale. That way once I get more comfortable with the format I can swap between all the decklists as needed for my local meta. Any specific decklists that I should build for this archetype?
So.. I just played against agains my buddy piloting U/R Delver. I got totally smashed, as susspected. The matchup seems absolutely unbeatable. Treasure Cruise is the death for this deck.
Yeah, I've seen some people play it, but I haven't really thought of playing it myself. Maybe i should. Thanks for the tip.

Question is what will happen to the meta when everyone start playing Treasure Cruise. The card makes both Tarmogoyf, Snapcaster Mage and Dark Confidant a lot worse. So what's good in a meta with a lot less of those dudes and a lot more Treasure Cruise?

Here is an interesting article discussing Dig Through Time versus Treasure Cruise:

I must say I agree with his thoughts about splashing and card quantity vs card quality. I also believe our deck is one that does a lot of the same things, hence quantity is the primary choice.
