Hey, I'm trying to make a version of this deck using Tallowisp. It's probably a ridiculous idea, but I started a thread for it, and hope to make progress. Does anyone here think they can help me?
I mostly play online and there the meta is crawling with delver and burn, so my deck is tuned against those matchups. Chalice of the void is amazing against delver and to a lesser extent burn. It's also good against most combo decks (living end, jeskai ascension, storm, amulet of vigor) and other fast decks. Just side out some 1 cmc spells (for me 3 thoughtseize) and play it with one counter.
I also side in 3 kor firewalkers and play 2 zealous persecution main deck. After those changes delver is almost an auto win post board.
Hmm.. Chalice of the Void, you say. It's quite possible I'm being too negative But isn't it hard to get to sneak one in under all the cheap counter spells.
Depends on which delver list it is. Some of them don't play counters at all, or some will tap out to bash with a swiftspear leaving an opening for chalice.
Hey guys, I'm planning on taking this deck to a FNM. What do you think about the deck and sideboard? I know I'm missing a few cards but hopefully I'll do ok.

I'm thin
The 60 looks solid. Unless I have the card somewhere in my main as well, I don't like only have only 2x/1x of cards in my sideboard. This is super true of cards that can be an instant wins (like stony against affinity). Is drown in sorrow a Damnation stand in? What's it trying to hit? Do you know what you're likely to play against?
I'd drop Sin Collector, Mirran Crusader, move Zealous Persecution to the main (replace a kill spell of your choice). That gives you room to get some of those sideboard options to 3x.
Hey, thanks for you help.
Well, this is my first time at this store so I really don't know what I'm up against. Drown in sorrow is good against affinity and tokens imo. The thing is I only have 2x stony silence right now. I have more zealous persecution though.

It's super tough to make a recommendation against an unknown meta. Just going by global meta, the top 8 are Burn, Delver, Affinity, Pod, Scapeshift, Jund, Twin, and Control. I honestly can't say much about new delver, as I haven't played against it. As for the others, you already have solid sideboard options against them, just up the numbers where you can. Torpor Orb is a good option for an unknown meta, too, as it stops more budget decks like combo elves and death and taxes, while also being a good tool against pod and twin.
Hey guys I've only been playing mtg for about 2 months now and decided to pick up Deadguy Ale and BW Tokens. Given that I've only played it a few times so far, I'm still not sure what I'm doing wrong with deck building so I'm hoping to get some advice on what I should switch out.
The 2 Duress are placeholders for more Thoughtseize. I also currently don't know if Liliana of the Veil even works in Deadguy but she is holding the spot until I can get another Elspeth, Knight-Errant.
My LGS meta consists of Melira Pod, Affinity, Control, Twin, and some UR Control Burn. Since I was really new to the deck I made some misplays allowing the opponent to get infinite combos off (the only thing I had trouble with). Let me know what you guys think I should opt out or any suggestions. I'm basing my deck slightly off Tokens, but with enough discard to qualify for Deadguy Ale.

Welcome Nhanticore!
I wouldn't beat yourself up too much over misplaying. This deck is not an easy one to win with, but once you get it, it will reward you for tight play and gaining incremental advantage over your opponent.
As far as Lili goes, she is amazing in this type of deck where you are grinding out your opponent. She is almost always a 2 for 1 against your opponent and is a threat they can't leave unanswered. The synergy between her and lingering souls almost feels like cheating.
Your list looks fine. Your curve is a bit higher than I prefer, but I play in area with a lot of delver so I could be biased. Just keep in mind that tokens plays very differently from Dead Guy and you want to keep your plan cohesive. Tokens will usually be more aggressive, while DG wants to be very disruptive and grindy.
Good distinction between the 2 decks. I always thought they were both aggro and so I tend to overextend and tap out too much (probably due to the high mana curve and because I only had 1 fetch land in the deck when I played it initially).
What do you think of Vault of the Archangel and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth? I initially used 2 swamps but opted for 1 Swamp and 1 Urborg due to all the colorless mana I had (6 if you count Koilos). Vault on the other hand seems a bit expensive to activate; it's more of a finisher.
Is Liliana good in this deck as a one-of or should I replace 1 Sorin or Elspeth for another copy? I have a playset ready because I'm also looking to make an 8 Rack soon.

I have found with Dead Guy(and really any grindy deck like Jund or Junk) that you want to play only what you have to. You aren't looking to swarm them except in the case of pack rat tokens.
Urborg and Vault are great one ofs in a deck like this. Urborg is a fantastic fixing and vault is really there to pull you ahead in the long game, which this deck finds itself in a lot. When you and your opponent are in topdeck mode and you can threaten to activate your vault if they try to attack can buy you a lot of turns, or can put you ahead in the race because they are faced with only terrible blocking decisions. Not to mention how a single lingering souls token can trade with a goyf at that point. It's a card that only becomes relevant some of the time, but when it does, I think you will like it. I would also suggest trying to find space for 2 Tectonic edges in your mana base. Maybe in place of the caves. 6 colorless sources doesn't look like it should cause too many issues for your build, but if you feel like having the mana you need has been tight already then hold off.
As far as Lili goes I would either run 3-4 of her and cut your other walkers, or cut the one of for another Elspeth. That will give your game plan more consistency. Usually I would say Lili is better, but in your build, without Dark Confidant or Phyrexian arena for card advantage, she might not be.
If I replaced 2 or 4 Mirran Crusader with 2 or 4 Phyrexian Arena (because I don't have and won't drop ~$300 on a playset of Bobs) then would Lili work? I'd still keep my high mana curve but with the addition of actual draw potential. Every time I drew Liliana with my current deck, she couldn't do much because I either tended to have a creature-heavy hand or the opponent had a creature-heavy field.
Mirran is good but perhaps he's too aggro for this deck? Besides Affinity, my meta looks slow and combo heavy. I thought I'd be able to outrace them with a more aggro version of Deadguy but perhaps more disruption would work in my favor (hence why I ever included Liliana in the first place). I could just drop her, try to pick up another Elspeth, and use Liliana in an 8 Rack or something.
Hey y'all. Totally new here, but I've been lurking this forum for awhile. Just got the chance to play this deck at my LGS' FNM after spending some time putting it together. Here's my list:
FNM was 4 rounds, and I went 3-1, so it was pretty good. I hadn't played modern in like 2 months, so it felt a little reusty at first, but once I was moving it was great.
Round 1 vs. Junk-Cruise:
I played against a Junk deck running a treasure cruise splash round 1. Siege Rhino, Creeping Tar Pit, and Scavenging Ooze were its big threats to me. The deck seemed kind of off, because it was running Treasure Cruise alongside his Tarmogoyf, which didn't seem terribly great for him.
Game 1: I have to mull to 5 and end up with lots of souls, he has scoozes in play.
-Side out IoK and Seizes for 3 Pithing Needles and 4 Runed Halos.
Game 2: I sculler away his abrupt decay, letting me freely play runed halo against the rhino out. He also has a pitifully small goyf this game (I think it maxed at a 3/4). I stick 4 spirit tokens with the sword, struggling against a siege rhino swing. I end up drawing into a crusader which blocks and kills his siege rhino with the disfigure I held in hand (gotta love me them black combat tricks), at which point he scoops.
Game 3: Riding pack rat and mutavaults away to victory.
Round 2 vs. Monowhite Devotion:
He ran a neat brew of his own. He main decked 4 Leyline of Sanctity, and used Mirror Entity to super pump his guys with Nykthos mana.
Game 1: I believe I won this one on the back of Smother against his deck (I think his only >3 cmc creature was Angel of Jubilation). Tectonic Edge on Nykthos was also pretty stellar.
I board out my Seizes, as I don't have that many good cards to board in against him. I put in my runed halos.
Game 2: He beats me here, as I mull down and he removes my threats.
Game 3: Super close match, it comes down to a sword of war and peace on hero giving me 7 life (thanks for the full hand Bob!) a turn while racing his 2+ 8/8's from mirror entity. I end the game by drawing into enough removal and runed halo to stop his threats cold.
Round 3 vs. Bant
Don't really know much more than that about the deck. He ran Birds, Hierarchs, and Avacyn's Pilgrims as dorks with some other tough to remove creatures such as Thalia, Loxodon Smiter, Obstinate Baloth, et al. He used sword of war and peace as a finisher. I lost to this one do to some bad misplays on my part.
Game 1: I mull to five again as the non-colored mana sources really hurt. He easily outraces me with threats and ramp.
Game 2: I make the horrid mistake of not hitting his mana-dork with an inquisition when he only had 1 land in his hand (stupid knee-jerk reaction to Thalia). Lost to smiter again.
Don't really remember how I boarded, was way too out of it for this round.
Round 4 vs. Ad Nauseum-Unlife-Lightning Storm Combo
This was my fastest round.
Game 1: He gets combo, kills me.
I side out removal (2 paths, 2 smother, disfigure, and slaughter pact) and Hero and Mirran Crusader to put in 3 Pithing Needle, 2 Stony Silence (to stop his mana rocks), and 4 Runed Halo.
Game 2: I play a Pithing Needle turn 1 naming Lightning Storm, he immediately folds.
Game 3: Same thing, only he sided properly to deal with needle (apparently). He mulls to four, I play a turn one needle. I rip apart his hand with sculler, inquisition, and Liliana. Tectonic Edge keeps him off of W. He mentions that if I play one more hate card, he is going to fold. I play Stony Silence, cancelling out the mana rock he just played.
My thoughts on the deck:
I really love super-grindy games, and my match-ups didn't feel that bad at all tonight. Sword of War and Peace is definitely stellar, as it gives protection from the most prevalent removal, and it can totally undo the damage confidant does to your life. Tidehollow Sculler is a great card, but I would never want to see it more than once. It really helped to throw down a body, grab a card, but most importantly see what the opponent had in hand. I like it just fine at 2.
I definitely need to cut out one or more colorless lands, as I had to mull way too many times because of not having one color in an opening draw. It'll probably end up being Vault of the Archangel, as I never even once activated it. Mirran Crusader and Hero of Bladehold were nice to have, as they both can really take control of the game if they stick. Runed Halo is also super awesome. I might try moving it to the main since it felt so good to cast. It never felt dead to have, and the WW wasn't too bad to cast with fetid heaths around. I am considering making this into more of an equipment based build, using some steelshapers' gift and a small equipment package, maybe also find room to put in squadron hawk like old Cawblade.
I could just drop her, try to pick up another Elspeth, and use Liliana in an 8 Rack or something.
Adding the Arena's will synergize nicely with Lili, but it's at the cost of your original game plan with Elspeth and the Crusaders. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but the deck will play a bit differently. I would suggest testing with 2 Arenas. If it were me I would also run 4 Lilis and cut the other walkers, then go down to 3 Souls to make room for the 3rd Crusader. You'll lack some of the raw offensive power of your original, but with all your removal and disruption you should be able to keep the board clear and force your opponent to a topdeck war that crusader/rats/souls should help you win.
Might not be where you want to go with the list, but worth giving a shot. Let us know how it works out for you.
So I've been messing around with this archetype for a while, and I really don't have a solid sideboard for the scapeshift matchup. Am I really supposed to just run it back and hope they don't draw into the shift late? Can't thoughtseize the top of the deck. Leylines just get cryptic bounced. Cranial extraction gets countered, and surgical extraction needs them to have it in hand and I have to have a thoughtseize to get it.
Just looking to pick your brains about any comments on the list below.
Its loosely based of some of the Wescoe's lists around. The manabase has got some strange fetches, but I have an eye on either evolving this into BWR, or BWU (which would mean some other fetches).
This list looks interesting and pretty fun. I like things on the grindy/controlling side. The biggest concern I have is the lack of lifegain. With all those fetches, shcoks, Bobs and Thoughtseizes I worry about your life total being drained significantly. Have you had a chance to test it? I can imagine Firewalker helps make back some of the life, but not in every matchup. Maybe cut a Mutavault for a Vault of the Archangel.
You could try out Seeker of the Way instead of Kor Firewalker. Also I think 8 fetch lands and 3 shock lands are enough. I run 2 Isolated Chapel which have been great.
