Guys, can you help explain the usefulness of Collective Brutality for me? I'm having a hard time understanding its usefulness. It's a worse Thoughtseize or Inquisition of Kozilek. It's also not as good as Fatal Push or Abrupt Decay in terms of removal. I guess it has limited of upside of saving our life total in a pinch but it's only sorcery speed. The only reason I can come up with is the versatility and allowing for a discard to turn on Dilerium. I just personally don't see why everyone thinks it's so great.
It's the versatility. The fact it can do all 3 of those is great and it helps immensely vs aggro decks and burn. It definitely holds 1-2 slots in the 75.
I'm not at all a fan of Kozileks return. It's cool that it hits Etched Champion, but I'm not going to play that just for that, I'm playing Anger of the Gods to hit more relevant things.
Should we play the second Blood Crypt over a fetchland
I noticed in the tournament I could not play Anger of the Gods if one of my red sources was harmed. Against mana-denial decks, which I consider even to unfavored matchups, this could be a problem. Against Merfolk my Blood Crypt caught a Spreading Seas and this would have lost me the game if I didn't have the absolute nuts.
This is why I've thought about Pyroclasm over Anger of the Gods . The double red mana can sometimes be a problem to get. The question becomes how many threats of toughness 3 would we miss hitting? Is it worth our tight mana base?
You definitely made me think about playing the Blood Crypt instead of the extra fetchland.
I'm conflicted about the white splash as of now, after reading a lot of the premium articles
I discovered that I was diluting my deck with the sideboard plan I received from Ghash, and will definitely rethink things
I've found Ghor Clan Rampager incredibly vital in the maindeck, surprisingly so.
Kees, could you share how you sideboarded in your matchups, if you can recall, it'd really help out the community. I have an idea, but with the white splash I'm a little more unsure of the sideboard plan
All I know so far against decks like Grixis control and Junk is -2 Temur, -3 Tarfires
If we do cut the white splash then we really need to find a way to compete with abzan and grixis. Or way to kill them through all their removal. Because those games arent easy even with the splash. So I don't know what we could play to come close to keeping up.
Thrun? Pia and Kiran? Even something crazy like Bedlam Reveler?
On the mana discussion, I was going to bring that up. I was worried about RR in the cost for anger and that's why I was leaning towards Kozilek's return. I also liked return because it was instant, but the "gotcha" moment probably isn't needed.
As for another card to discuss, what are the thoughts on Bojuka bog in the sb as a tutor target. It's "free," searchable, and can't be countered. Maybe 1 less surgical for it.
Also speaking about the SB, 2 or 3 fulminators? I had 2 last night and a buddy said I should definitely make room for a third.
Even reading the premium articles, I feel most people have decided straight jund only looks better on paper and doesn't actually perform better. As mentioned above, it weakens our already shaky match against abzan and the like as well as weakening our game against Eldrazi. It's a tough choice as fetching white can make our mana weaker, but it is really good for the grindy matches. Maybe if we go straight jund, we go heavier in the combo aspect post board and try to close the game quicker with things like tainted strike and battlerage. Could be able to get their turn 3 or 4 with those. All we need is 3 mana and a 4+ power dude swinging in. Or do we go on the more dudes in the sb plan and run the flayers for more low cost big beaters? Definitely needs testing.
I'm glad that primer is on it's way as I just decided to play a deck. I'm BGx player mostly playing Jund and Junk but feel this is just better now.
It's not necessarily better, but it has some worthwhile upside at the moment. Enough upside that I bought into the remaining pieces I needed (baubles and a couple of lands) and have been testing it myself.
I really like the tutor ability that the deck has. It makes it compelling in the way that Kiki-chord is compelling. It's not a silver-bullet kind of deck but it has some sequencing similarities which appeal to me.
Plus... Death's shadow has been a pet card of mine for years. Finally good to see it doing something useful in a fair deck, of all places haha

Modern: G Tron, Vannifar, Jund, Druid/Vizier combo, Humans, Eldrazi Stompy (Serum Powder), Amulet, Grishoalbrand, Breach Titan, Turns, Eternal Command, As Foretold Living End, Elves, Cheerios, RUG Scapeshift
Core:
3 Lingering Souls
1 Ranger of Eos
2 Fulminator Mage
1 ghost quarter
2 surgical extraction
1 grafdiggers cage
Flex:
1 Reclamation sage (tutorable answer to RIP, Bridge, Blood Moon)
1 Ancient grudge (Affinity/Lantern/Bridge)
1 Collective Brutality (Burn and weenie matchups)
1 Liliana Last Hope (Grindy matchups)
1 Maelstrom Pulse (catch all answer)
Maybeside:
1 Blessed Alliance (can be used in mirrors, burn, eldrazi and combat trick)
1 Abrupt Decay (perhaps pulse is better in sb?)
2 Path to Exile (for large creatures)
1 Dismember (for large creatures)
Alyius, I think traditional Jund is in a bad spot right now. It's slower than DSJ, and Titanshift, Tron, Eldrazi and grindy control decks are big in the meta right now, and Junk is better off fighting decks like Death Shadow, Jund, Grixis, etc. For the first time in a while MTGO has regular Jund dipping below 4%.
This deck takes a while to pick up, I'm still sucking with it, but it's fun and you can definitely feel how powerful this deck is.
What's the best graveyard hate. I was thinking Scavenging Ooze but I've seen a few other card choices on here as well. I'd rather have a option I can tutor. I guess Bojuka Bog is an option but it's a one time use versus Ooze's aggressive pressence.
My problem with scooze in this deck is the low mana count. He wants lots of green to be good and we only usually run 3 sources and often only see 1.
Point taken. I'd still rather have a tutorable card for GY hate. What about Yixlid Jailer ?
Ideally we need one-sided graveyard hate in this deck. That limits us somewhat.
Loaming shaman seems OK, but flawed.
Faerie macabre is probably one of the better options.
Bojuka bog is great.
Ultimately I think surgical extraction is multi-purpose enough that it's the best card for the job, even though it's nof tutorable
