So... um... how much do you guys think Vesuva will be buyable for now?
Well Commander alone proped Vesuva over $20, so it will likely stay decently high. It has other uses other than copying Cloudpost.

Out of the blackness and stench of the engulfing swamp emerged a shimmering figure. Only the splattered armor and ichor-stained sword hinted at the unfathomable evil the knight had just laid waste.
I hope Grove of the Burnwillows goes down. I was all ready to pick some up when they were at $6, but then they jumped above $20 after the Pro Tour. I have a hard time dishing out that kinda cash for cards I may only use in one deck ever :/

I would say that they will be going up very soon. If the format goes heavy aggro like I predict then the second "revelation" of the meta will be all aggro hating zoo decks kinda like Kiblers Pt Austin deck.

Vesuva was only around $8 before the big modern hype, so my guess is it'll settle in the $12-15 range.
Its pretty worthless outside of EDH now so I would expect it to go down to pre-modern prices.

Yeah vesuva I expect will go below 10 dollars a pop, kept afloat only by EDH where it is a staple.
But yeah blazing shoal is dropping really fast; glad I'm sold my 2 sets for $40 total after buying all of them for under a dollar apiece.
Gifts ungiven might go up more; I hope it does, the card is sweet and tremendously underplayed IMO. It's a really broken tutor in the right deck.
The problem with it is its supporting cast. Its like my favorite card of all time, but you can't use it effectively in modern because the decks you could make to build around it well are non-existant or have key parts banned.
It might still be viable and go up in price, but it won't be great.

Cool...Ban List makes people happy....then I go to buy cards for the supposedly viable control decks that are going to come out in droves ...Then every place is sold out and price gouging ensues....
Nice to be preemptively priced out of Modern...
I would love to play...but the good cards are too damn expensive still.
well... you can think of it this way: the cards you buy for decks in this format arent going to rotate out.
I always hated investing in standard and extended because I usually had to dump the cards right after I finished playing the deck, or I would lose my investment. Boy am I glad I was able to trade those Vengevines while they were still worth $40

Thanks for this affordable format WotC :/
This is a pervasive sentiment that is all over the thread. It is also totally untrue. I have absolutely no idea where people are getting their information from, because Modern remains a very cheap and very accessible format, ESPECIALLY relative to Legacy or to the defunct Extended. Just take a look at this thread that tomathan88 has been working on (I have contributed a little to it).
With the exception of Next Level Blue, Death Cloud, and Zoo, all of the decks are well under $400. Those expensive decks are only expensive because of Tarmogoyf, and to a lesser extent Vendilion Clique/Thoughtseize/Shocklands. Goyf alone, the 100 dollar golden child, is the real problem, but reprints are going to fix that within a year.
Here's the thing. If you are unwilling to dish out $400 for competitive decks, then I am genuinely curious what format you do want to play. All serious decks in all formats historically cost between $200 and $400, and Modern is no exception. It remains way cheaper than Legacy, and will overall be cheaper than Legacy down the road. I encourage people who do not think this is the case to keep checking in on the Modern deck database thread. The information there shows that the format is not really as expensive as people think.

I think my favorite part of this entire thread is the people looking for Vendilion Clique reprints. They're a legend. They died in the storyline. All three of them. They just printed a box set of legends that they weren't in. They are never getting reprinted.

Yeah, I agree some cards are going to be very hard for WOTC to reprint.
Clique, Gaddock Teeg, Noble Hierarch, Goyf, etc.
Some of these are legends with odd creature types that are bound to a plane, others have mechanics that were basically 1 shot effects, and others are just too god for standard.
I don't think any of the current products are really positioned well to carry these sorts of cards. The only product I see being able to carry this are the Commander decks, but I just dont see them being able to put super valuable cards in a 100 card precon very easily.
FTV and Judge / GP / PT promos just don't have a large impact on the supply of a card to push the price more than a few percentage points.

So are we just going to have to accept the prices? Because I was excited for modern just because WOTC created an eternal format where they could reprint stuff so it would be more affordable. If that doesn't happen then what's the point of legacy-lite.
They need to reprint stuff in significant enough amounts or people just rather play legacy which is capped in supply.. which is the reason the came up with modern in the first place.
Depends on what you call "affordable." If you were expecting tier 1 decks to be cheaper than tier 1 standard decks, then there will never be a format for you.

My mana base should not be the most expensive part of my deck. Would like to see the price of shocklands drop down to something a little more reasonable and inline with other non-basic rare lands.

Wishful thinking. Manabases were the most expensive part of your deck in Ravnica Standard and Lorwyn Standard (the two most multicolor-heavy standards in some years). They were the most expensive part in Alara standard until the arrival of Mythic Conscription and Jace. Manabases are the most expensive part of your deck in the two true eternal formats as well, unless you're playing monocolor. The reason shocks cost more than other non-basic rare lands is that they are infinitely better than all of those lands, simply because they are fetchable.
Modern is not going to ever be cheaper than standard. It is unlikely they will do mass reprints of stuff OTHER than the lands and possibly Dark Confidant (who doesn't affect standard to a huge degree).

I don't think hes forgetting anything. How can you reprint a $100 card and then put it in a $30-35 product. I don't mean from the view of protecting the secondary market. I mean that a product like that will just not get into the hands of player and will be scooped up by speculators and stores. I dont see a way to do it easily.

Was people looking at it to try and counter cloudpost in a green control ramp deck. Since cloudpost is banned it will be a 50 cent card again soon.

Because it's not like legends don't get reprinted in duel decks or summer multiplayer sets or even weird expansions or, once in a blue moon, the core set.
(BTW, all the characters I linked died in the storyline too.)
