Could Mindbreak Trap find a home in blue player's sideboards when Modern becomes a format? I just noticed it in a Legacy sideboard earlier today (Check Byran Eleyet's sideboard, 2nd place, GP Providence), and was wondering, with all the talk of possible storm-based decks in Modern, could Mindbreak Trap be a viable answer in game 2 or 3?
Exiling 4 Dragonstorms while you're tapped out sounds too fun to pass up.
Its one of the reasons my own Dragonstorm deck has them in the board. For the mirror.
I also have Pact of Negation in the board as well, in case I walk into one those game 1 or 2.
Any 0 counter is good, in my opinion, but I'm worried about Gitaxian Probe starting off many Dragonstorm player's turns, which could throw a wrench in the machine, I guess. But you'd still delay them a turn or so. Pact Of Negation seems awesome in Dragonstorm decks because it protects the combo and adds to the storm count, plus you don't have to worry about the whole "lose the game" clause.

I don't use the probe, while it might be a free peak and draw I prefer to use Peer through depths its better for combo fixing. Back on topic, Mindbreak just shuts down pretty much any kinda combo deck. (Assuming they cast more than 3 spells a turn.) So it should have a rather relevant impact on the format at its birth.

It seems solid. Personally I am running two Silence in my sideboard against Dragonstorm - simply cast it after they use their fast mana and suddenly they have wasted a bunch of cards. I'm not too worried about storm decks though. I think Hypergenesis is more of a problem.

Silence is good, but then you need to be running white, as well as leave mana open, possibly telegraphing your move to your opponent without them using a peek. I'm more worried about storm than Hypergenesis. Chalice Of The Void is going to be very prevalent, plus counter-magic in general is going to be strong, at first. Storm has a lot of variations that make it hard to pack the right counter-magic against them, but that's where this thread comes in. That said; Mindbreak Trap>Storm, Chalice Of The Void>Hypergenesis.

I think a lot of it is based both on the specific deck that you are playing, it's matchups, and the metagame. It's the kind of choice that exists between all forms of graveyhard hate (for example, running Tormod's Crypt vs Ravenous Trap vs Bojuka Bog, etc etc). In the same way, different decks require different sideboard options, and I simply think that, because I myself am playing a combo deck, it's a good idea to play a card that is useful in multiple matchups (for example, against heavy control) and still effectively combats Dragonstorm. Again, I don't really see how other storm decks are going to be very effective, and I can't see how Dragonstorm can win unless they ramp to it.
why not run trickbind against both? hit the cascade or the suspend trigger and gives you only one dragon to deal with. Upside they bring in pacts to stop you and they can't.
I wish I had these a moment ago. I hate sitting helpless against a stupid combo that takes ten minutes to resolve.
P.S. Losing momentum is a real downer.
Play discard, Canonist, Chalice, Trinisphere, etc. There's a lot of ways to hate out combo. If you think combo decks are stupid, then find some disruption. Find some worthy way to hate them out long enough to secure a win.

Quicken might serve you well in your board. That was how I used to beat the mirror when it was in Standard.
I think that Mindbreak Trap will be amazing in Modern. Alternatively I think that Nix is going to be the "Counter" to it...and I think it will take off.
Nix doesn't care about CMC. It cares about mana spent, and if you use MBT's alternate cost, you spend no mana.
Nix also did wonders for me with Dredge before Relic of Progenitus was printed. Tormod's Crypt is usually people's only answer...and Nix is a giant middle finger. Dollar Bin form of WIN!!!
